I had a trolling plate on my main and HATED it. Then I tried bags and now I have a kicker and still run small bags every day. Bags stabilize the boat. I could see bags not being as effective if there was a lot of current but I have never had the issue. For now until your kicker is back buckets work very well.

I live around saratoga and fish champlain a lot as well as a few trips to Ontario every year and I always go to Oswego I don't know if it's the best but I have learned it and it's what I know. If your doing day trips don't over look lake george it gets busy during the summer but I fish it a couple times a week and it has some outstanding lake trout fishing.

Planer board spread question
Buckmaster7600 replied to tj13825's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I always start with my flat lines on the outside and my short cores and coppers inside of that and have never had a big problem I think an occasional tangle is inevitable but I don't worry to much about them, these tangles don't compare to a wire dipsey with a spinny finding a 400' copper. -

I now use an iPad on a ram mount on the dash it's amazing ,daily updates awesome accuracy and it has other uses. For me it was some of the best money I have ever spent in my boat. -
I did the same thing at 2am as we were leaving to head to Oswego. We finally found a fuse up by the throttle. That was a yamaha outboard.

Last year I put 21hrs on my main and 317hrs on the kicker my 4stroke uses around a 1/4-1/5 of a gallon an hr. Between fuel savings wear and tear on the big motor and safety to me it's a no brainer.

I have a 16ft Starcraft and have a 6hp tohatsu sail pro and love it. If you are looking at a 4hp I know tohatsu and mercs use the same motors for the 4-6hp so the weights are the same. Any single cylinder will vibrate I have mine mounted on a rubber mount and it's not bad at all

How do you guys rig the meatball? I use them on lake George and champlain for lakers but after seeing a 1lb ball go through the windshield of an islander when A king came unbutton at the net I decided they weren't worth it for kings.

I have trolled a lake in the Adirondacks where we camp at night and caught lakers, salmon and rainbows on flat lines in July. They definitely come out out of temperature at night. I have done best 1to 3am.

It's a td its a 1 piece unit that you clip to your line or cannonball and it gives gives you a temp every 5ft of depth. They are an awesome tool for dipseys and junk lines. They also work great to find temp if you don't have a probe. -
8'3" ugly's on the riggers tdr's for dipseys
