  1. Wrinkle star is spot on regarding appropriate weather watching for small boats. Last year in May we spent a week on Henderson Bay with our 16 ft Tracker Laker DLX….we got about 21/2 days fishing as wind and T-storms cycled through the entire week. Hence my repurchase/refit of my 1992 SeaRay 200OV into a FL/LO fishing platform. Significant increase in stability and freeboard. Safety first to ensure many days of fishing.
  2. I am down in VA and I joined LOU for the thrill of vicariously catching LO monsters via the posts here and reading all those “thrills of victory and agonies of defeat.” I recently repurchased a 21 ft SeaRay that I will be refitting from a cuddly cabin day cruiser into my FL and LO fishing machine. All the stories, mentoring, and life hacks offered here on LOU inspires and gets my fishing heart pumping. Yes I live on a lake here in VA where any day of the week I can go fishing for landlocked stripers, hybrids, bass, and crappie, but there is nothing like hearing the drag whine as a big LO salmon, trout, or walleye strikes your bait. So please keep the stories and reports coming. As Sean points out the fishing can turn on a dime…besides most reports a are hours if not a day or so after the fact.
  3. The corrosion control training in the USAF taught us that putting two dissimilar metal in direct contact will cause galvanic corrosion. So stainless steel tank in aluminum boat without proper isolation would invite big corrosion problems. Also, if you leave the boat in the water and your electrical ground system is not up to ABYC code you will increase the corrosion issues. I own a 1992 SeaRay 200OV that I bought brand new. Within a year of purchase I received a recall notice that required the OEM gas tank and all the fuel lines to be replaced. Turns out the marine industry finally had enough data on the destructive effect of ethanol gas on certain plastics and rubber compounds that were all common components in boat fuel systems. Long story short…look for an ABYC approved gas tank and fuel lines designed to co-exist with ethanol gas.
  4. Yep I love it when folks call Seneca a dead lake…keeps the pressure off. While I am not as accomplished at catching the silvers as Lakebound88 yet, I am marking fish and bait consistently in the area I am focusing on.
  5. I cannot get anything here on Seneca. See lots on the electronics just no takers😩😩 I know fishing vs catching😜😜😜
  6. Yepper. Good Luck and tight lines!! PoJ
  7. Trout hunter—been on Seneca 3 times on the east side between Valois and Peach Orchard Pt and west side from Glenora to Starkey Pt since July 19. Marked lots of bait between 30 -90’ over most the area; marked predators in and around the bait. My fish hawk TD reported 50 degrees water temp at about 60’ and 40 degrees around 75/80’ regardless of overall depth. surface temps are 75-76 degrees down to around 8’ and then begin a pretty linear run down to 120’. I had one hook up of a rigger at 90 over 250 but lost it after a big run. Time was around 8:30 am. I am running two downriggers with various spoons based on other reports. Fleas are present but minimal nuisance. Going out Sunday afternoon with my son and will provide updates. I plan on running at least one Rapala husky jerk silver on a downrigger. My is experience minimal, but I have been gleaning for others on this forum. So I hope this helped some. Note: east side of the lake has weeds out to 80’ and numerous weed pods floating north to south. PoJ
  8. Sorry MH…wasn’t there Friday night we were at Henderson Bay May 14-21…although there were a couple of hardtops that appeared to be chartering in and out of Henderson Harbor. We did good on Browns when we could get out and I landed a nice small mouth albeit out of season, but the walleye bite was no where to be found due to an unusually cold spring. Keep on keeping on!!! PoJ
  9. Thanks to all for the feedback and insights.
  10. Yep we just couldn’t get a weather break the week we were there. Headed to Seneca Lake for 3 weeks starting Tuesday… hope to score some nice LL salmon, Lakers, Rainbows, and maybe get lucky with some Browns. Keep on keeping on and tight lines!! PoJ
  11. What size boat are you running? Just curious as we fished Henderson Bay in mid May and really wanted to try the area you fished, but weather was horrible…even inside the bay. We have a Tracker GV-16 Laker DLX…16ft LOA with 6’2” beam powered by Mercury 25 EFT 4-stroke tiller outboard. PoJ
  12. Looking for feedback and recommendation on the good, bad or ugly on Thermo-Troll 840 before I invest. Thank you in advance for your feedback. Respectfully Pair of Jack
  13. See attached topo from iboat. Good Luck and tight lines. Pair of Jacks
  14. Best I could find is Bait Master located at 6976 May Rd, Conesus NY, 585-519-5996
  15. HB2–I never like to diss anyone who is trying to help the rest of us solve a real nasty issue. When I was growing up in the 1950-60s and learning how to fish the Finger Lakes and their tributaries for trout. There were no zebra mussels or water fleas and to think someone might have figured out a life hack to mitigate the fleas catches BS is just wrong. Keep on keeping on!! PoJ
  16. Frogger—Gotcha I just respooled all my reels with brand new 20lbs mono and 100’ leader of floor so I like the idea of splicing in a 100’ section of 30 or 40 lbs mono vice respooling again. Many thanks and tight lines.!! PoJ
  17. Great video and absolutely a beautiful fish. I will be up there July 19-Aug 8. Staying near Hector. I have a 16’ Tracker Laker DLX with gray with “Pair of Jacks” on port bow. I will look for you on the Lake.
  18. So is the best practice to go with 30lbs mono to avoid fleas while trolling? What about my cannon downriggers with 200lbs wire?
  19. Thanks…I suspected as much around the West end especially at the mouths of the rivers as well as where LO dumps into the SLSW. Since I don’t fish LO or the Finger Lakes regularly enough I only invested in a Fish Hawk TD so I do not have a good sense of speed at the ball.
  20. Is the speed differential due to current in the lake and is this typical? thanks in advance for your feedback. Pair of Jack
  21. I am going up to Seneca Lake mid July to mid August and will be running numerous combos of spoons, sticks, and cranks. Spoons on downriggers and dreamweaver divers. Sticks and cranks on in-line planer boards. I bought a lifetime subscription to an app called Precision Trolling Data which gives me various line/speed/depth chart for just about every stick and crank ever made…I am almost exclusively a Rapala user but I do have a portfolio of older vintage Natural Ike crank baits that are incredibly reliable for multiple species. Here a link to YouTube info on the App: http://youtu.be/IBlh5d7XORo Sometimes I try to get real complicated by combining the Precision Trolling Data and interpolate the depth charts when putting sticks and cranks on downriggers. I will provide full reports on each fishing trip. Pair of Jacks
  22. We fished Henderson Bay May 14-21 all with 16’ deep Vs (Sea Nymph, Tracker Laker Guide V-16 DLX, and a new Lund Deep V16). Weather sucked and we got blown off the lake almost every day. Definitely review marine forecast as we did to ensure you have a good sense of what to expect and when to head for the dock. If you don’t have a marine radio use your mobile phone to get both forecasts and updates while on the water. Also many good weather apps have a radar map which is especially good at giving direction/storm paths as well as lightning strike data. Wind and wave increase will generally be ahead of the actual rai/lighting. PoJ
