Lowrance elite touchscreen problem

I have a Lowrance Elite T1 12" unit I use solely for a chart plotter. Half of the selections do not respond to touch. Lowrance reps didn't know how to do a reset on a 8 year old unit. But a young man at Cabelas told me how to do it and some of the functions now respond but not enough to delete trails and start a new one. Currently my Lowrance is connected to my Simnet system so it shares data with my Simrad auto pilot. Is it possible to connect a Garmin chart plotter, that has button controls to my system or am I stuck with Lowrance or a more expensive Simrad unit.
