Welcome to a visitor making a trip about the lake:

 

This is the Blue Heron.  She's an 80 ft fishery vessel operated by the University of Minnesota and currently moored at the Genny:

The Blue Heron is "similar but different" than the Lake Guardian.

 

The Lake guardian is much bigger (180 ft) and is operated by the EPA.  Its mission is to study water and biological life in the Great Lakes to support Great Lakes Restoration.  It's currently in Lake Erie, west of Dunkirk.

 

The Blue Heron (only 80 ft) is operated by the Large Lakes Observatory at the University of Minnesota (Duluth).  Its mission is academic Limnological research.  I.E. Physical, chemical and biological.  It also trains great lakes scientists. Being smaller, it can more so study the nearshore.

We had an academic research vessel operated by University of Minnesota, Duluth, "Blue Heron", pass by us this morning in 100' off Sandy. It's a National Oceanographic Laboratory System boat.

Well, what are we up to today?

 

 

Blue Heron is just west of Erie.  Lake Guardian is docked on east end of Lake Erie.  (Coming to Big-O?)

Lake Guardian is in the Welland Canal and headed to Big-O.

Welcome to the EPA Lake Guardian.  Making a few 1 hour stops along the way:

Guardian visited Sodus and just pulled into the Genny:

Guardian parked at the Genny, Jefferson parked at Oswego. SR12022 still on patrol on the east end.

Jefferson still docked in Oswego.  Kaho traveled from Toronto to the Genny, docked overnight near the Guardian but is underway and now headed east.  

 

Lake Guardian exited Welland Canal and now in Lake Erie.  Seth Green working the lake around Oswego.  SS 2022 still on patrol in the east end near midlake.

Jeff went North then back nearshore to drop "kids" off at Fair Haven.  Meanwhile "little cousin" (NRTNL) back at the Genny and headed East.  Seth Green also off Fair Haven and Kaho working around Sodus. 

 

 

Hey Seth - watch out for student drivers!
