oak orchard 8-5-26

Took our small finger lakes, 17.5 Alumacraft boat to the Oak yesterday to take advantage of this boards hot recent posts.  We had a late start, 9AM and reports from incoming was today was  no wheres near as good as yesterday.  We went where the boats were, about 3 miles east of port in 120 ft.  We caught two nice steelhead, 10 and 12 lbs there, for two hours of fishing.  We motored north to 270 in there and in front of port and caught a 12lb salmon out front, then we motored out to the 27 line and fished a blank screen between 26,5 and 28 with no fish for an hour.  Another big boat out there never raised a net.  We then went back in to 300ft this time, 3 miles west of port and fished into 170 and caught a 13 lb laker and saw some very small pods of bait.  It turned 3:30pm  on the clock so we decided to finish the day where we started, 3 miles east of port, and hooked three more salmon, landed two in 90 to 100 ft.  That spot east of port was the only good graph we had all day , bait pods and lots of smaller fish  and a few sallmon marks .  We caught the salmon because of a bit of luck.  My son popped a dipsy and was reeling it in to check for weeds (lots of debris floating here and there) and a big salmon hit it about 50 ft behind the boat,  No drag, steel line, ...destroyed the snubber and broke off 20lb leader.  But it was some site to see, explosive, like a marlin hitting!  We then raised our dipsys from our standard 150 and 200 to 90 and 120 for two more hookups,  Simple program we run, part timers that we are, two wire rods with big dipsies.  All bites were on green mag spoons, flasher flys never got a touch, nor did smaller spoons.  we took advantage of the calm waters to buzz around looking, but seems we should have stayed where we started, fished higher up and shallower. bait pods into 80ft.
