is there any fish in the outlet this time of year

I drive by there atleast twice a day , the west river that is, down by Middlesex, I haven't seen anyone ice fishing it yet but closer to spring they fish it pretty hard right at the state launch out of 245. Lots of gills crappies and perch it usually has pretty good ice into the spring just keep an eye on it. There's a bait shop just up the road on 245 "The Bait Barn" they have minnows, spikes, waxworms, jigs etc.

Hi Tom, I saw you working a couple days ago on N Main St Canandaigua, just a few houses down from me but I didn't have time to stop and say hi. He might mean the outlet at the north end by Steamboat landing, if that is the case, I don't think there is much action there, but again in spring I've seen guys around the lagoons off 5 and 20 by Wegman's fishing for what I am assuming are bullheads.

I am new to fishing the canandaigua area. Is the outlet worth fishing in the spring for trout? I know the DEC stocks it more towards phelps but how is it closer to canandaigua?
