Occidental settlement allocated

Altmar, N.Y. - Nearly $11 million in projects designed to improve fishing access, enhance fish populations, conduct research and promote angler outreach will be funded through a multi-million dollar settlement with Occidental Chemical Corp.

DEC Commissioner Pete Grannis announced the projects - more than 40 in all - at four separate press conferences Jan. 24-25.

The money is part of a $12 million settlement reached in 2006 with Occidental Chemical Corp. for a natural resources damages lawsuit.
