this may seem like a stupid question but here go's. i am installing a moor subtrol, do i need to strip away the coating on my downrigger cable where the probe is attached? i have not used any kind of down speed and temp yet. most of my trolling is in the winter on the flx. thanks in advance

Longline is correct, I just installed a new probe this year and it tells you that in the instruction. I did opt to use the thimble and snap swivel and not directly to the probe. I had no problems at all with readings. Good luck.

If you use a release like a walkers you only need to remove enough coating to install an electrical termination ring. We use Cannon Unitrolls an have one set up with Torpedo uncoated cable and a backup set up with the coated cable

i use band buster releases, i am going to strip off some coating and crimp on a swivel to attach the release. the release has a swivel at the bottom, i will attach the probe on the bottom swivel. then another swivel under probe to the ball. this way i can remove the probe.thanks for the tips. firechief, i purchased it used so i have no instructions.
