I have noticed that the half keel now comes weighted and unweighted, my question is do you need the lead in second keel? Thanks

Anyone with any info on theses 2nd add on keels. I have noticed they sell with and without the weight at all? I won’t be pulling copper that often just would like to have them pull out more and turn better ?? Thanks

I have double keel otterboats with the second keel only half the weight. A full keel makes the otterboat sink  when it lays still in the water. A second keel without weight will give extra pull, but it is less stable and it tends to hang over a bit, specially when the second one is on the outside. You cannot buy half keels in a store. You have to order them from Big Jon.

Mine are 10 years old and stainless. the weight is there not only to counter the pull, but also to prevent them from capsizing when there are big waves

I plan to make mine as well. Are yours that the machine shop made of Aluminum or stainless?  Have you pulled a 400 and 500 copper on one side at the same, time as you said they pull great or what have you pulled heavy to warrant your note that they pull great?
