  1. There are two times on the lake when you can target Coho. May in Niagara county fishing the top 25'. Here are some baits we use on flat lines and short cores (up to 5 colors). Brads Thin Fish - The red colored ones all work. 6" DW Spin Doctors - Orange, Red, and Yellow all have their days pulling 2" peanut or Coho flies. DW Super Slim - Orange Slurpee is my favorite, but other orange colored spoons will do the job. September in front of the Salmon River. I've never done it, but from what I gather it's a flasher/fly bite and the fish are bigger.
  2. I'm not saying to switch, or hoard up the stuff that's available. BUT.....don't ever go out on the water without some fake strips in the boat. They will save you if you leave the real stuff at home, or run out of real strips on a stellar day. Two companies we use and have good success with are: SOCO Deep Rig Tackle
  3. I'm interested in understanding how certain baitfish provide more, or better, nutrients to prey than others. For example, if Smelt are more nutritious that Alewife what can we do to provide better spawning habitats, or increase Smelt survival in the Lake. Smelt rule the roost in Lake Erie from what I understand, and we're just downstream from that. I'm also interested in how Smelt and Alewife interact with each other. Where do they live in comparison? Can we have both as a sustainable baitfish option, or is it one or the other? Other topics : How do we educate Salmon to eat Bloaters Caledonia
  4. Great video, but you do know downrigger depths have to end in a 0 or a 5 to catch fish.
  5. Yes you can see it on all the Optimum's if they are connected.
  6. Check out a video we made explaining our go to spoons on Lake Ontario. You can find them over at FishUSA by clicking here - Trolling Spoons
  7. I have the original boxes that I will ship them in. Per UPS it's $52/package.
  8. I'm selling 2 Cannon Optimum downriggers that we ran last season on Lake Ontario. We cycle through a new set each season, and the new ones are here. We're selling last years downriggers for $1000ea with buyer picking them up in the Rochester-Sodus area. The body of the downrigger is really the only thing that was used. We have our own booms, spools, rod holders, bases and swivel bases.
  9. Yes, we run Offshore in-lines off both of our charter boats. You can run them many different ways. I'll try to hit it high level below. Spring BT fishing or offshore surface fishing - Furthest board from the boat is the longest lead and they get shorter as they get closer. For BT we typically run the outside board at 120' and come in 20' increments with each board. Separating the in-lines by 50'. This takes calibrated line counter reels to accomplish. Offshore fishing many parts of the water column is done by putting the lines running the highest in the water column the furthest from the boat. So, lets take a 5 color, 10 color, and a 350 copper. The 5 color would be the shortest length of line out, but furthest from the boat. The 350 copper is the the deepest running rig and longest behind the board, but closest to the boat. In essence making a "V" pattern. If you ever want an on the water instructional lesson I could offer that in my Lund on weeknights in the Sodus/Rochester area.
  10. I have ECHOMAP 73sv, GPSMAP 743xsv, and GPSMAP 943xsv's at Krenzer Marine in stock as well as PS30 transducers. If you never plan to run radar you can stick with the ECHOMAP series. Shoot me a PM if you're interested. If you truly don't want it for anything but to run the PS30 you cold go ECHOMAP 72/92sv. These have basemaps and no transducer. I can get those.
  11. Hey guys, go over and give it a like. I'm in the process of updating the channel with fresh content. Besides fish catching videos I am planning some videos to discuss trolling the Great Lakes for Salmon, Trout, and Walleye. https://www.youtube.com/c/CrazyYankeeSF
  12. What "controls" does the Lowrance add that the Xi5 already doesn't have? On the Minn Kota side adding a Humminbird allows you to troll contours. Other than that the Minn Kota trolling motors already have auto-pilot, cruise control, and spot lock.
  13. What functionality are you expecting, or wanting, by linking them together?
  14. You know someone is going to bring up Caledonia, and if they don't I will for sh*ts and giggles.
  15. I use their spoolers. Can't remember the exact model, but I use my drill to spool reels up.
  16. Some of our best patterns are Team Dreamweaver regular and mag sized spoons in the following colors: FishUSA Custom Colors Rod Father Martel Stock Dreamweaver Colors Sea Sick Waddler Dave's Salmon Slapper Glow Frog NBK Super Glow Two Face Don't forget to pick up a 6" Coho Flasher or two and some peanut flies from A-TOM-MIK. Best colors are rod/Orange flashers with Green/Blue flies.
  17. Not saying it won't work, but IMHO there are better transducers for our application.
  18. No, on the shoreline you'll find BT, Coho, and drop back steelies. That 20-40' is where you would concentrate looking for Salmon. If you slide out deeper than 40' you're going to get mostly into Lake Trout, but you will find Salmon mixed in with them. Typically, you mark that waypoint and work it when you get bit by a Salmon. You might go through 40 Lake Trout until you get one Salmon bite though.
  19. My opinion would be to NOT go with a CHIRP transducer, but to go with a dual frequency traditional sonar transducer if you're using this for trolling. When you go with a CHIRP transducer you get narrower cone angles. The best you will see with the T165HW is 30*. With a P66 you get 45* on 50khz (best to fish on) and 20* on 200khz (best when heading out looking for bait). If you have a fiberglass boat Airmar's B60 is the way to go to give you better pictures on plane. If you need any more info, or are looking to purchase the transducer let me know I can help you with that.
  20. It's weather dependent, but if going that early you better look from the Welland Canal to Jordan Harbor and stay somewhat skinny 30' or less. April kings love bright sticks. We've done really well on these - Bay Rat X Long Deep in Can't Afford it, Cracked sea Coral, Frog, and My Secret to name a few. If you slide deeper your catch will be mostly Lake Trout until you find a pod of Kings. If you want BT, Coho, and Steel you may be better doing the shoreline thing.
  21. It's not "bad" technology. Generally, you sacrifice cone angle when using CHIRP. Airmar's best CHIRP cone is 30* on a transom mount transducer. Yes, with higher frequencies you get better detail, but nothing beats my 50khz for trolling.
