  1. No problem I sell and install all of these options. Let me know if you want some prices.
  2. So there are options: First would be a mechanical AP unit. Cheapest is probably Si-Tex and most expensive would be Garmin. We've installed both. With Rack and pinion steering you will need a new steering cable. These use a drive that replaces your current helm. You'd tie the engines together with a tiebar. The nice thing with this set-up is both engines can utilize the AP. Second option is to put an electric AP on your kicker. Garmin makes a nice one. With this solution the kicker is the only engine with AP.
  3. All Humminbird units now come with dual spectrum CHIRP transducers or a High Wide CHIRP frequency. You have to remember these units are made for in-land lakes (Bass/Walleye/Panfish fishing). CHIRP is not desirable for trolling applications in my opinion, but it is when bottom fishing or jigging. Typically CHIRP offers smaller cone angles, prettier pictures, and better target separation. Any Humminbirds I sell to Great Lakes trollers I suggest going with one of the following Airmar transducers - B60, B45, P66. These transducers offer a 45* (50khz) cone and a 19* (200khz) cone. We use the 50 for fishing and the 200 for running out in the morning looking for bait and fish. If you have any other questions feel free to ask here or PM me. I am one of the largest dealers/installers on Lake Ontario. I've run most Humminbirds on my charter boats for 15yrs+.
  4. I am one of the largest marine electronics dealer/installers on Lake Ontario's South shore I will put my $.02 in. In order to sell most companies high end stuff dealers have to sign a re-sellers agreement not to advertise below Manufacturers Advertised Pricing (MAP). More and more electronics companies have gone to this. This gives the brick and mortar vs the internet dealer the same shot at business in my opinion and puts everyone on the same playing field. Mark up on these electronics is HORRIBLE as it is. That being said with our install business at the marina we sometimes can discount items since we have the service business to go with the sale of the product. I can also go to a trade show, like the Niagara Outdoor Expo, and sell for whatever I want there as long as I don't advertise it. We had over $200,000 in product (cost not retail) that we were bringing to that show. I still have a lot of that product on an order, which most has been tough to get your hands on. If anyone's interested I will have that order sometime in mid February. To the original posters comment if it was illegal I would think these big companies legal teams would not let them do it, but everyone of them do it. It's been this way for many years. Also, if you PM me and tell me what you want I can see what I can do for you.
  5. If you're fishing Canadian water mid to late April fish it like you would Walleye back home with deep sticks in less than 30' of water. You can also go out deep and use the traditional Summer methods too at time.
  6. Do you know what kind of steering you have? If you have hydraulic there are many options.
  7. Fish Hawk is definitely more sensitive after running them side by side the last two seasons. Now that we run both I don't see myself going back to one. Generally, Moor is .5mph slower, but it can be more or less than that at times. Also, you have to remember that both are generally not at the same depth, and on my boat one is running coated cable and the other is on 150lb braid, which affects probe angle.
  8. I was a vendor again this year, and the guy running the show e-mailed me about it two days ago. It's canceled. That being said I have a brand new and fully rigged (for Great Lakes fishing) Starcraft Fishmaster 196 that was going to be my back-drop in the booth to promote our electronics sale/install business at Krenzer Marine. If interested the boat is rigged with the following: Minn Kota Terrova trolling motor w/iPilot Humminbird 12" SOLIX with Lakemaster maps Fish Hawk X4D Cannon Optimum Downriggers and Dual Axis Rod Holders Yamaha 9.9 Kicker w/ Controls Minn Kota on-board battery chargers I also put in an order for $200,000 in marine electronics that were going to be available for sale at the show. These electronics are below and can still be purchased through me. I can drop ship to you or you can bring your boat to Krenzer Marine for the install. If interested shoot me a message on here. Humminbird Sonar/GPS units Airmar transducers Garmin ECHOMAP series Garmin GPSMAP series Cannon dual axis rod holders Cannon Mag10/Optimum downriggers Minn Kota Power Drive/Terrova trolling motors Garmin PS30 transducers (Panoptix) Fish Hawk SnT units Lakemaster chart cards for Lake Ontario and Lake Erie Yamaha kicker engines Scanstrut ROKK wireless phone chargers Minn Kota battery chargers
  9. The Browns never leave the shore really. The Salmon are the ones out deep in the warmest water all Winter (on the bottom in 250-400') that will migrate to the shore with the bait as the waters warm. Lake Trout can be found out in deeper water (30-100') during the Winter as well.
  10. I'm catching them now and right through Spring in 20' or less. You won't see 50* water until close to May.
  11. Yeah, all the charter captains I know that are complaining about a lack of business are waiting for clients to go to their website too. The successful ones with excess business go out and put themselves in front of potential clients. If the DEC truly wanted to answer questions and take comments they would have done a little more to promote it. When there used to be three SOTL meetings in the Spring you saw it on Facebook, LOU, and the President of the Lake Ontario Charter Boat Association was aware.
  12. We only run in-lines on the Lund. On the Trojan we run big boards 70% of the time and in-lines 30% of the time. On the Lund I don't want to store big boards, and I'm not a fan of a planer mast in the bow area due to excessive board stalling on turns. In-lines take some getting used to. Especially with newbies.
  13. So, I found out second hand about a virtual State of the Lake meeting the DEC was holding last week. I jumped on late, but missed so much of it I didn't want to ask questions that may have already been asked. My point is, however, why were there a select few people that knew about this? Not even the Lake Ontario Charter Boat Association President was informed of this meeting to help spread the word. There was nothing on Facebook or LOU either. I always have questions at these meetings and feel left out of an opportunity to ask my questions and get answers. I frequently get asked questions about the fishery from clients, people on the dock, and at shows. I like to be informed with the latest data and direction of the DEC. There is some pre-recorded video data they wanted you to watch before this meeting. I will include the web address to these videos below. The recorded presentations are available on the DEC website at https://www.dec.ny.gov/fs/programs/press/LakeOntarioFisheries/
  14. We did a quick recon trip to check on the Lake Ontario Brown Trout. After a very difficult Spring fishery there seems to be a good amount of cookie cutters in the water we fished today in Monroe County. There were also some nice ones too! The surprise catch of the day was this nice Rainbow Trout. It definitely fought different than a Brownie. Fingers were crossed it might be a small Salmon. Our best rods were flat lined Bay Rat Lures Short Shallows in Glow Goby, My Secret, BT Candy, and Referee. On our Chinook divers and Cannon Downriggers Bay Rat Lures 3.5 spoons in Glow Frog and My Secret were best.
  15. FOR SALE: 10" Strikemaster Lazer Pro ice auger. This auger has very little use on it, and I may even have a set of new blades to go with it. It comes with an auger bag. $250 pick up only in and around the Rochester area.
  16. We spent the morning on Oneida Lake and put a hurting on the school of Walleye hanging on the West end. The sunrise this morning was pretty spectacular, and pictures do it no justice. As for the fishing, 1/2oz Perch colored i1baits blades and size 7 Glow Perch Jigging Raps took a majority of our fish. Our best depths were 14-17' of water. The fish today seemed to like flats better than drops and humps. Water temps were 41*, but the fish still didn't mind an aggressive retrieve. If anyone is interested in booking a trip on Oneida we will fish it right until she ices up. Give us a shout!
  17. I entered last year and never fished it. It's a hell of a thing they have over there.
  18. Unless you buy it WITHOUT a transducer and put a traditional 83/200 or 50/200 transducer on it you won't be any more impressed with its marking ability. It may be prettier with a higher definition screen, but it most likely wont mark more since fish finders are mostly coming with CHIRP frequency transducers these days. If you have a Fiberglass boat I'd recommend an AIRMAR B60 (thru-hull) or P66 (transom). If you have an aluminum hull go with the P66. Let me know if I can help get these to you. I can ship right to your house through Krenzer Marine. If you need help installing we do that as well.
  19. Tough to do without State of the Lake meetings....
  20. Mercury, Mercruiser, and Yamaha both recommend fogging the engine with what we call a "cocktail." Here at Krenzer marine we use a 6 gallon shop tank shop tank filled with 5 gallons of 90 No Ethanol fuel, 2 quarts of 2-cycle TC-W3 oil, and 1oz of Stabilizer. We run the engine on t his for 5-10 minutes. This cocktail lubricates the cylinders and fuel pump.
  21. There isn't a tougher format than the Orleans County Open. It's an event where you have to catch different species to complete your box.
  22. I love this! This is what I wanted to see when guys were complaining about wacky winds this season. That southernly direction would explain the cold water we saw on the South shore during Summer. This wind data paired with the DEC's angler survey would make for a nice set of data over the years to see how wind direction effected catch rates.
