    Honestly, I use them all. It depends on what depths you fish. If you like scratching the beach the S3 is your man. The other two are good a little bit deeper.

    I don't usually go off dive charts. Dive charts are only good for the day and conditions that data was recorded. typically with the Chinook divers I'm only running them out 5 to 20 ft this time of year anyway.

    Fished new water today and had a great day once we found the patch of water the fish were holding in. Our Biggest Brown Trout was about 8lbs, but most were small. Our Fat Nancy's Tackle Shop Streamside rods make even a 15" Brown Trout fun to catch! Along with all the Browns we took 3 Coho and 2 Rainbows. 95% of the bites were board lines back 80-120'. Bay Rat Lures in the S3 model is all we ran today. Colors that went today were Citric Shad, Can't Afford It, Free Willy, BT Candy, AYU, Ghost Wipe, and My Secret.     Another great charter with long time customer Al Kohut and gang. The morning started with a Spring King that chewed a Bay Rat Lures Citric Shad S3 on the inside board back 120'. The first one of the season is always exiting! After that we picked on a plentiful class of small Brown Trout in that 8-12' range. We slid out to the 15-20' range and found some better Brown Trout later in the morning. Finished the day looking for another Salmon, but we found nothing. Best Bay Rats today were Citric Shad, My Secret, and Ghost Wipe. Couple shots on the Fishing - Chinook Diver-Stainless Steel Troll Fishing Divers and Cannon Downriggers both pulling Team Dreamweaver SS's. Sea Sick Waddler and Chilly Willy each took one.     Not a bad unit. Also look at the Humminbird HELIX 7 MEGA SI. It retails for $700 as well. If you want side and down imaging no one can match Hummibirds. The Garmin you mentioned has traditional sonar and down imaging. The Humminbird I mentioned has traditional sonar, down and side imaging.

    The more you fish the more you accumulate stuff and add to your arsenal. If you only BT fish a few times a year it doesn't make sense to have dedicated set-ups. Lots of guys just change over their leaders and use the rods they run all season, and they catch fish with them. Over the years I've moved to the dedicated set-up becasue we run a bunch of spring BT trips. These rods also double for Spring Coho when we venture up west. The nice thing about these set-ups is they are lighter action which makes the smaller trout more fun to catch. I guess it all comes down to how much you fish and will use them.

    What kind of issues? I've only had to deal with them twice over the years, and have nothing but good to say about their customer service. I've read on other message boards that people have had positive experiences as well.

    Humminbird HELIX 9 would be my vote. Easy to use, great customer service IF you ever need them, and they mark great with the stock transducer.

    Gotta love early season Brown Trout charters! Six guys joined us today from down state. We clocked the BTs early, and then slid out hoping to connect with a Salmon. That never happened, but a nice one was caught by some buddies this morning in our vicinity. What we did find was the BTs got bigger in that 15-20' of water range. All fish came on Bay Rat Lures sticks and Team Dreamweaver spoons. Citric Shad was definitely the hot plug today, but everything got bit. Some of our nicer fish took spoons off Chinook Divers out 10-20'. DW Chilly Willy SS was our best. We even took a few off our Cannon Downriggers.     Depending on traffic. If there is no traffic then it isn't a bad idea. Either will work. If running big boards run everything the same distance back before clipping into the release. If running in-lines your furthest board will be the longest line, and the closest board should be the shortest.

    Look for bait. If it's dense chances are there are predators around. If you see both on your screen, Merry Christmas, put your lines in. Bait is easier to see moving faster than individual fish.

    In my honest opinion people over complicate fishing meat. Keep it simple. Use combos similar to flasher/fly rigs you have success with. Don't be afraid to run MC Rockets if you run out of meat. Support the local company who's supplied meat to the great lakes for years. More money has been won on Familiar Bite than any other meat.

    Our first spot today was a bust. We almost bailed on spot number two when all hell broke loose. 5/6 board lines went, and we knew we found them. Today's battle was finding the right color water after the Friday/Saturday NW blow. Our Maine couple had two great days of Brown Trout fishing on Lake Ontario. Today's hot baits were Bay Rat Lures Yankee Troller, Citric Shad, Coho Crusher, and Firetiger. We also had a Citric Shad ThinFish going as well.     After cancelling charters the last two weekends we finally got out and chased some Brown Trout. It was cold, it was windy, it was Spring Brown Trout in March as expected in New York! Rods got bent, and smiles were had by all. Boy did that feel good! Stud today was the OG Bay Rat Lures Yankee Troller plug with a flash insert. Others that went were Ayu, Emerald Shiner, and Citric Shad. Couple bites on Fishing - Chinook Diver-Stainless Steel Troll Fishing Divers pulling Team Dreamweaver SS's in Caramel Dolphin and Chilly Willy. Finally, all but one was released to fight another day.     I/We are very knowledgeable with Minn Kota Ulterra's, and we've installed quite a few here at Krenzer marine. You probably need a 72" shaft and 112lbs of thrust, which is a 36 volt system. Give me a call. Rick

    Launch by the old Coast Guard dock is open. Most of the bay is still frozen.

    Not a problem. My experience is McCoy runs a little thicker than most companies. Just remember if you're pulling plugs the bigger the diameter the less dive depth you're gonna get. Good luck this season! You guys have some hammers up there. do what you can to protect those big girls.

    I don't do much, but every Fall I fish BOQ for a few weekends. A few of my buddies up there love braid. It gets your plugs deeper for sure. I, however, run 10lb McCoy Mean Green/10lb McCoy Fluoro 100. I only pull deep divers with anywhere from .5-5oz of weight behind Offshore OR12 In-line boards. Never had an issue or a break off.
