  1. Andy: What are you tring to say here? I think I kn where your going with it. But?
  2. I'm not talking about the rest of the crew, but I'm out with the newly posted rules. This use to be a very prestigious tournament . Not so now with open communication. In the Pro as well as Am what happened to doing it you're own way and see where it falls. I think the board members of this tournament should stop and reconsider there decision. There has been a lot of input on the open communications on a lot of boards including this one and it has been no communications.
  3. Tim Let me know. Sat. I have to be at Savannah Dhu (Conegell's ) in the A.M. with the boy for a meeting for the youth hunt program they have. But the boat is hear and you're good ta go. I'll be back mid afternoon. If you want to get together Sunday I'm free all day.
  4. Bill I use to run 50# Stren. Now I am using 40# fluoro no problems at all. We all use 47's. Just watch your drag settings. Chinook: I don't run the bands or the clips just straight off the reel. If i can hear it clicking out every now and then i kn it's right. Keepers: Small boat is still in the water. LOL If ya want to use it it's here, doesn't look like a lot of ice in the near future.
  5. Tom : I'm with you 100%. I only do the Sodus deal & Oswego altho I wasn't on the boat at Oswego last year. If it's going to be a tru Po-Am. Leave it the way it was. NO communication. I have never seen a problem with this in the past. Everyone put the phns away including the observer and the radio was on 16 for emergencies or start or quit time. As far as Paul stated in the above post about the home boy having an advantage> Yes they do with open com.. We all fish those waters and between private channels and cell's do you think if we were aloud to use them that it wouldn't make a difference? There are a few that are out every day on charters that aren't in the Pro-Am and can direct you to whats going on between friends. Sad deal all the way around. This is not a hard rule to enforce. That's what it is and it's not that hard to enforce, unless you are bound on cheating. And as you said: I'm not sure I'll do it this year at all. Might as well do the LOC with my customers as this is the way I see this going.
  6. To each his own. I was just offering a tip that's worked well over the last 20 years or so day in and out.
  7. Years back I ran snubbers, but I have found they are not necessary at all. #1 More terminal tackle to beak ( snaps etc. as well as the extra drag at the dipsy) #2 They impair the action of the lure your using. If you run a good grade 40 or 50lb leader off the dipsy clean and pay attention to your drag setting ( loose enough so you can here it clicking out every now and then ) you will have no problems. I can't remember the last time we have lost a fish on the wire due to breakage unless we were hung on bottom
  8. Just venting. But the open communication thing isn't right. If that's the case why do we need an observer. You can come in with X number of fish Pro or Am. They were there to collect cell phns etc and make sure that there were no communications at all between boats, as well as # rod's etc. I see it as a big disadvantage to someone coming in to an area and fishing against locals that know the water and fish it most every day. They might as well call it the LOC # 2 Derby. With open com. it's not going to be the same. Go out and do what you can do on your own and may the best team win. ** This has no reflection on what this forum or the owners think. Just my own opinion. K I'm done with the venting.
  9. Shark: I've been out of town for the last week, but I'll see what I can get for ya.
  10. Jerry On another note ck your pm's about the ice hut.
  11. Jerry: Thanks. Didn't even give Steve a thought for that type of thing. . I know him well. His camp is around the corner from my house here on the bay. I'll give him a call or see him after the holiday. Thanx Again
  12. I'm looking for someone that makes the type of pennant's ( banner's) that they give us for the antennas in the Pro-Am. I know that before there were a few people on this board that did that kind of work or of someone that did. I'm figuring I'll need between 75 to 100 of them in orange color. Thanks in advance:
  13. Skein Thanks for finding that again. It' a bit long to watch BUT it could save your life. I found it last winter on another site and had it posted but as we kn that's all gone. What I will add to it is. Have a good set of picks where they are readily available if you do go thru. Preferably on a cord behind your neck and tucked in your outer pockets.
  14. I have to agree with Steve. Unless it's an emergency. No phns. No radios. Think about it. This is supposed to be a professional tournament the best or the luckiest out of both Pro & Am divisions. To many variables with open communication. Do your pre fishing and go out, do your best, and see how you fared when you get to the weigh station. But nobody said anything bout a little chatter over a Coor's Light at the dock, after or before. 15. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year To All Hank L&M
  16. Erin: All the above posts are right on. Don't run your vhf off the terminal strip that is in the boat from the factory. Run at least a 12 gauge copper lead from the battery to a designated block at the helm (fused 10 amp. at the battery, plus the inline fuse for the unit at the unit). Then run your vhf from there, same with your Fish Hawk. It'll save a lot of problems. As well. Keep your coax lead from the Hawk as far away as you can from your coax lead from the vhf antenna. Should take care of it unless the batteries are running low after trolling. But that Suzuki should have a higher amp charging system even sufficient at low trolling rpm's. What are you using for battery's deep cycle/ start or cranking battery's only? On another note how did you make out with the control unit? Hank
  17. Evil Are you talking Michigan Stingers or the Optimizer version? Either way I have to disagree with the above post ( from V ) as they are and have been great producers for many years. The Michigan's have been one ove the better spoons since they were introduced many years ago. I'm still running some i bought back in the early 80's. Ck out the other boards around, and the Oak. Nothing against NK's as I run a ton ove them. But it's best to be a bit versatile instead ove someone trying to plug just one manufacturer. They are all good at any given time. K just had my 2 cents
  18. Tim Did some research on the drive. It was made by Easton and they are very hard to find parts for. I have one source in the midwest where I might be able to get more info on it. The starter I'm pretty sure I have. I just haven't had a chance to look yet. I'll pm you with some more info and a phn # Thanks Hank

  20. Tom Check this link: http://gmocart4.gmotion.com/store/merch ... et_fishing It's Memphis Net & Twine and these are what I used for catfish trot lines years ago. Hank
  21. Bill: Thanks for re posting Tim's knot for the wire it works great. No more screwin with crimps and all that crap. I was a bit hesitant to use it but I've never had it fail since using it. Port Bay Tim: I don't run backing. 1000ft of wire is the norm. I run 30lb. haven't run 40. The only difference from the above posts are that I do tie it around the spool with a piece of tape to hold the knot in place when i start to spool it on. Tying it around the spool just gives a bit of insurance. Hank
