  4. Thanx guys. I'm out in "beautiful" St Louis, Mo, right now. Mid to hi 50's & sunny right now. I'll try to send it your way. (Except for you ice fishermen...) Tom B. (LongLine)
  5. I don't what you consider "too far". Check out Nautical topo maps. 150 FOW is much closer to shore off Oak Orchard than it is off Rochester. But regardless July has the years smallest monthly average wave height. Generally like a mill pond early, then winds start to change/pick up around 9:30-10:00am unless a storm is brewing. (but weather sites will generally tell you that) Tom B. (LongLine) p.s. don't forget any of the safety gear and radio is a great thing to have.
  6. Very nice Ray. Tom B. (LongLine)
  7. According to DEC website: You ARE allowed 3 lines + five tip-ups when ice fishing unless there is an area/specific water restriction. http://www.dec.ny.gov/press/79461.html Tom B. (LongLine)
  8. They're talking IN the water not on the island. http://www.cp24.com/servlet/an/local/CT ... b=CP24Home Tom B. (LongLine)
  9. Obviously anyone answering this poll is using "electronics.... but as for being a "million dollar elect' capt"...no way. I wouldn't classify a $500 fish finder, a $400 Sub-T & a $100 radio as in the million dollar club. (riggr's are manual) My tackle box & reels are worth a lot more. Tom B. (LongLine)
  10. Very nice. Tom B. (LongLine)

  17. Answer: -> 4th post back. Offensive??? Defensive??? Please explain how you interpret that to be offensive or defensive. Tom B. (LongLine)
  18. I'm guessing hooks are generally downward because there's more surface area in a fishes bottom part of the mouth than on the roof of it's mouth. (like most animals) Also, it'd change/fight the natural flutter of the spoon if installed away from the cup. Being attached with a ring will not allow hook to rotate the full 360 deg. If you really curious, try attaching it with a barrel/bearing snap & observe how the hook rides behind the spoon. Tom B. (LongLine)
  19. Neo, I don't think I've ever seen a single barb "factory" spoon that didn't have the hook pointing towards the cupped surface. The great majority of fish I catch are hooked in lower jaw yet somehow every once in a while a little one with get "brain-hooked." I have a feeling those that were "brain-hooked' were becasue I was trolling a little fast. Tom B. (LongLine)
  20. Been there, done that. That's why I've been buying my kids tools. "you put it together" Tom B. (LongLine)
  21. My furnaces, stove & dryer run on Natural gas & I'd rather buy American, (helping to keep real jobs in our area) even if paying for extra safety precautions than be dependent on foreign oil. Tom B. (LongLine) BTW: Chemical scarres are "interesting". Arsenic is purposely added to livestock feed. Benzene is in the gasoline we pump every week & fumes we breathe when out fishing. Just to name the chemical is meaningless, the concentration is what is important, after all coco-cola contains phosphoric acid, Ketchup contain acetic acid, drinking water conatins chlorine (Chlorene + water = Hydrochloric acid)
  22. Merry Christmas guys. Here in Fla w/wife visiting Daughter & Son in law & 1st grandchild. 25. Foam in a boat is more for keeping the boat somewhat afloat in case you get swamped not if you flip. i.e. over the transom or you nose dive. On a quick flip, chances are that an air pocket will form between the hull/water line & you'll get hurt. Not a good idea to plan on swimming to shore in Lake Ontario. I would not advise that strategy. The object of the plastic is in case the foam does get wet, it won't sit against the hull as it dries. (If it ever dries) Also it would help if you make sure to pull your drain plug after every retrieval. (sp) Tom B. (LongLine)
