  1. I agree with all said above. I only have a 300 and 400 because I do not care for reeling it in and I am the only one on my boat that will reel it in. I do have them on board because they do catch fish when other presentations will not. I also like to have 800 feet of backing and this with 500 feet of copper is a very large and bulkie reel. Good luck with your decision and tight lines.
  2. Have done it several times. I will put that out when fishing is tough to give the fish something they have not been seeing. Usually a dodger with like said, a four to five foot leader to the spoon. A top producer one spring out at the bar was a white dodger and a black spoon with purple tape and a white cup.
  3. Interested in the mag 10. Does it have short stop and were are you located?
  4. I too have both Cannon and Ber'ts rod holders. I do not thing you can go wrong with any of the three. (Berts, Cannon, and Trax Tech)
  5. Good luck Nick. Keep them coming. I will be watching all morning. Have to go to work at noon.
  6. Years ago I remember a buoy in that general area. Maybe it has sunk a little.
  7. I use bags as well. The trolling bags from Big Papa Sportsfishing or Amish Outfitters are made for the stress put on them from trolling. Drift bags are for drifting and will not last as long as from these two places. according to the Big Papa site you would use the 28" bag for a boat from 22 to 25 foot. I have two sets of bags. one set is undersized slightly which is the set I use most often. Good luck with whatever you decide.
  8. Duckman, Nice to meet both of you. Glad you had a great trip as well and got into the fish. This sport can be so addictive. Stormwarning, As always glad to talk to you. Sorry we did not get to actually see each other. I need to talk to you about your accommodations for next year. For all others, So glad everyone got into the fish, this weekend ranks as the second best we have had in twenty years.
  9. used my new riggers this past weekend. I am using 13.5 pound torpedo weights from atomic. I have extended booms that I made slightly longer than the adjustable ones from Cannon. Little jerk at the top but not bad. Due to all these conversations I did make up a couple of two foot extension cable so that the weights are always in the water. Maybe this helped. Overall very pleased with the new riggers. Also the extended cables help in not having my father bang the torpedo weights against the side of the boat. Lol. Even when retrieving the release to set up new lines the weight is still in the water.
  10. I understand that if the boat is moored in NY and is in the state half the year then you can register it in NY. At least that was my understanding when I spoke with the lady at the NY registry five years ago when I purchased my boat. The only issue I had was to get to the registry for the paperwork so therefor I registered it in Mass. My father was retired and could do the running for me.
  11. Took my yearly trip out to the west side of the lake. Dad, my 12 year old nephew Peter and myself. Decided to fish out of Olcott this year, I usually go out of the Niagara. Arrived in town and at the motel around 1:00 pm. Thursday. Unpacked and settled our stuff. We were able to launch the boat about 2:30 pm. We went just out front seeing we were all tired from the 9 hour drive. Planed for a couple hour troll to see what the picture looked like. Managed 1 for 4 in that time. Did not think that was too bad for the middle of the day. Went back for dinner and to bed. Got up Friday and had our morning coffee. Launched about 6:30 am. Trolled out front and to the east. Went 18 for 23 on this day. Biggest fish was about 18 pounds (King). Saturday turned out to be our slowest day but not bad at all. Managed 15 for 18. Had a slow stretch around 10:00. My little nephew said he wanted to catch a laker. So I obliged and set up a cowbell and dropped it to the floor in 90 feet of water. Slowed the boat down and in ten minutes he was hooked up. Nice 10 pound laker to add to his list of fish. Sunday, WOW. What an awesome day. Started out a little slower than the other days, The morning bite was not as good for us. About 9:00 all hell broke out. We had three doubles and multiple singles that were only minutes from being doubles. We went something in the park of 25 to 30 with only two fish getting off. Friday the fish were high. Riggers set from 35 to 60 feet. Saturday and Sunday some cold water moved in but the fish went down. Riggers were set from 60 to 95. Divers were set 125 and 150 in the mornings and dropped to 225 and 250 on Sunday afternoon. A mixed bag for all days. We caught a three nice steelhead from 8 to 10 pounds. Four lakers from 10 to 15 pounds. Kings up to 18 pounds. Only small coho's this year. Hope all have a great weekend. Tight lines
  12. ground for me as well. I find that more than eighty percent of DC voltage issues are a ground issue.
  13. May I ask what pound weights you are using. I have not used mine yet but will be on the lake next weekend.
  14. spiny water fleas should be minimal at that time. Generally the warmer water creates more dense populations. Usually get more dence late July into August. Good luck tight lines.
  15. I will be there for the holiday weekend. Never had a bad trip other than weather related.I haven't going to the holiday weekend for the past 10 years.
  16. I would love to see the video's but the link did not work for me.
  17. Hello my friends, Looking for some help. I always fish the Niagara Bar on the holiday weekend in May. I went to book my room at the Youngstown Motel and found out that they must have found a buyer for the property. The phone number is disconnected with no further info. Any recommendations on where to stay from Youngstown to Olcott. There will be my nephew (13), father and myself. Will need three beds (2 and a cot is fine), a place to cook, and a place to park the truck and trailer. I will be towing a 24 Thompson Fisherman. Thank you all for your help. Richard
  18. Your tongue weight should be some were between 10 to 15% of the total load. That is boat, motor, trailer, fuel, gear, and anything else you tend to travel with in the boat. Using the weight you listed of 6220 pounds your tongue weight should be some were between 622 pounds to 930 pounds. All set ups travel slightly different and there are other variables I am sure I am forgetting at this moment. I would start by adding 200 lb. of weight in the bow of the boat and take a trip with it down the street. If all looks good then check the tongue weight with the added weight, remove the weight and slide the boat forward to obtain the approximate same weight and take another trip. continue process until you have it riding nicely behind your truck.
  19. longbow, Penn do come with a lc. http://www.tackledirect.com/penn-209lc-line-counter-level-wind-reel.html?CA_6C15C=1414136170 god bless and tight lines
  20. Massachusetts have been stocking trout sense before I was a kid. Rainbows, Browns and brookies.
  21. General rule from what I have been told. Bright colors on bright days, dark colors on cloudy days. I usually have a couple lures of the opposite thought out and let the fish tell me what they want.
  22. The white prop appears to be the long shaft which is the third item listed. The Johnston, black prop appears to be a standard shaft which is the fourth one listed. Wish I lived closer myself to view these first hand.
