  1. This was exactly what happened to us.We caught a load of kings on our ten day late may trip from Olcott to tbe bar, but we had a tough time with much slower than normal early and late August trips.Even the offshore fishing which is usually very good for us was lousy. The offshore steelie bite thats usually very good sucked as well. I hope this coming season is not a repeat of that
  2. Those arent bolts that you see in the picture. They are anchors with a flat plate on one end, and a serrated end on the opposite side. You apply epoxy adhesive to the end with the plate and fasten it to the surface you are sound proofing.Once you have the neccessary amount of them attached and the adhesive has cured, you push the insulation down onto them. The serrated end will protrude and you place push on covers onto them, which holds the insulation down. They're similar to the push on nut type retainers you see on axles on kids toys or garden equipment. They look like bolts in the pic, but they are just push on caps As for holding heat, that hasn't been an issue for me, and im running a 350 ci mercruiser.
  3. Soundown is the way to go,not cheap but very effective at cutting the noise, and made for marine applications. You can but it direct from them, although it can be less money at places like Hamilton Marine. Here's a picture of my motor box with 1-1/4" soundown applied.it has a layer of 1/4"synthetic lead in it which according to them is a big help in noise deadening. The stuff is pretty heavy.. http://www.soundown.com/index_Marine.htm http://store.hamiltonmarine.com/browse.cfm/sound-reduction/2,720.html
  4. Well, there you go, it figures Dicks is terrible, ive got more tackle in my boat than they have in any of their stores.I told them once that they had the right name (Dicks), but they should drop the word "sporting goods" from it.
  5. Here you go ..........http://www.lakelandinc.com/Spoons/dodger.html .... Not sure what colors they offer if any,but you could always paint or tape them up yourself. The pattern with star type impression is the same.
  6. I've run kickers(9.9 & 8 hp Yamahas) on my last three boats and found the best mount is a fixed stationary mount.I went with one made by Adventure marine http://www.adventuremarinemfg.com/ It's the model 4100 and is made for four stroke kickers. They rate the capacity at 140 lbs,but imo that's way under rated,It's pretty heavy duty and can take a lot more than 140lbs.I'm sure they do it more for a liability issue. Just my opinion, but after running the fixed mount,I would never go back to an adjustable bracket. The fixed bracket never moves,no bouncing around when running on the water or over the road, and it has a lot of setback,so you can easily tilt up the kicker out of the water when you're running with the primary engine. I use it with a T8 Yamaha with power tilt, four years now with no problems.
  7. pickerelkiller About 35-40 minutes. It's 30 miles. You can call him at the number listed on the ad.I have a camp in Olcott,it would be an easy drive..
  8. A buddy of mine has two Walker electric down riggers in mint condition for sale. They were extremely well maintained and have very little use.He has all the wiring with plug ends, the mounting hardware, and the owners manual. They come with the following *4' Booms *Swivel bases *Dual rod holders *wiring with conectors and circuit breakers. He's asking $375.00 or best "reasonable" offer for the pair. We will be up in Olcott from August 16 to the 25th and they could be picked up there,or he will ship them UPS,buyer would have to pay shipping. If anyone is interested you can call his home at 413-782-9057 or his cell at 413-262-3463 ask for Bob.
  9. I'll second Jebs reply, we' e fished the last six days (5/18-5/23l) and fishing was lackluster at best.We fished from olcott to the bar and it has been tough. The water is ice cold and fish are scattered all through the water column. There's no temp of any kind, but we found the warmest water of 51 degrees just a bit west of Wilson, in depths from 300 to 400 feet. Our best day was 15 fish on, most of which were cohos, kings were far and few between. Best colors were greens and the riggers and planer boards produced the best.I did have five cohos come on a baby red spin doctor with a tiny pink squid on the wire diver at a 2-1/2 setting run 55 feet back, but the flasher and fly rigs were dead.In six days we boated only six decent kings, the largest was 25 lbs, the others in the mid teens. Today the lake is hurling and unfishable and who knows what it will be lke on saturday. If I had the choice, I'd make the trip next week.
  10. It's a common problem with a whole lot of boats. Many boats with self draining decks had scuppers that not only let water out,but also let water in when there's too much weight in the stern. It's mostly because in order to maximize the freeboard, the builders had the deck floor a low as possible, which ends up being to close to the water line. In cases like yours, when the decks drain into the bilge, you have to make sure your bilge pump or pumps are routinely checked to make sure they operate. You might be able to install a couple thru transom scuppers with the ping pong ball covers(like Rabuds) on the outside. It would work if the outlets are at,or a bit above the water line. The scuppers on my 23' Seacraft go thru the deck floor with the outlet on the hull bottom. They work great when trolling,as long as the crew is sitting. The problem arises when you have to run the 10 to 12 feet back to fight or net a fish. If two of us are in the rear corner, water will come up thru the scupper on to the deck. It's not a ton,but enough to be a pia. I'm in the process of fabricating an additional set of scuppers that will drain into a sealed container below decks with an automatic bilge pump in it.The pump will solve the problem when we're in the back fighting a fish and the thru deck suppers will take over when we're sitting, under power or tied up at the slip. Here's the link for the Rabuds http://www.rabud.com/seascupper2.htm
  11. I'm listing these for an elderly friend that wants to sell these. One is a used Garelick four stroke adjustable kicker bracket.I'm not sure if it's the 9" or 15" travel model, but I think it's the 9"one. The other item is a new(the package is beat up)Sting ray Hydrofoil that he bought for his previous boat but never used. I think he's asking around $200.00 or so or BRO for the bracket, and $25.00 for the hydrofoil. Prices may be negotionable. If anyone is interested you can pm me and I will give you his phone number. He's in the campground at Olcott, and the items would have to be picked up there.
  12. When I kept the boat there,we used to eat at a place called the Cottage inn about ten minutes west of FairHaven. Not sure if it's still there but it was a great place to eat.Their Black Forest pork chops were great. There was also a good place on the water in Port bay just a bit west of Fairhaven, can't remember the name though.
  13. Ask the guy from Olcott who hung on to his overturned pontoon for 2 days before he was rescued off Toronto, how well they handle Lake O's water. His was a pretty industrial type very heavy duty pontoon boat with all kinds of safety equipment, even radar. A friend of ours fished with him and told us that he had a king on and it actually swam right accross the deck. The owner also told us there were times that he tied himself to the rails when he got caught in nasty water conditions. He and his wife were out one day offshore and got flipped by a large wave. They spent two days adrift hanging on to the framework on the overturned rig.the story was covered by several newspapers. In my opinion lake O is no place for a pontoon boat.
  14. I went with a remote oil filter on my 350 c.i. Mercruiser I/O. I mounted the oil filter on the inner transom wall making it easy to get to. I got it from Lighthouse partman marine out of Long Island.I gave them the length that I needed for the hoses and they made up high strength hoses, made for this purpose to my measurements. Very easy to install. The new head replaces your old filter and is connected to the new remote head wherever you want it.I went with the remote head and the two hoses, not the kit that they show.I think it was about $100.00 **Just be very careful to connect the hoses to the proper inlet and outlet ports on the new remote head,or you can cause damage to the engine if you have the oil flow going backward through the filter** Here's the link http://marineengineparts.com/shopsite_s ... ge117.html
  15. Thanks Tim Maybe this very mild winter will produce another crop of huge kings like 1999.We can only hope so.
  16. Anyone remember what year it was when the fall LOC derby (if I remember right) top ten salmon were all well over the mid 30lb range? I seem to remember that you couldn't even get on the board with a salmon under 30 lbs. Was it sometime between 1995 to 98 or before or after? I was wondering what the low weight and the high weights were. Tried finding something online showing the LOC derby history bit no luck.
  17. What Glen said Ditto on the Forschner and Dexter Russel. If you get the Dexter 12" Cimeter, buy the best model,as they male a couple of them. The higer price one(about $65.00) has the best steel.I'm fortunate to only be a little over a half hour from Dexters plant. They have a great facory store with all kinds of goodies.
  18. Chris Gatley, thanks for the good info.I have a question that maybe you can answer.I spoke to a tech at C-Map Jeppesen, and told him that the detail on my C-Map doesn't seem as good as on the Navionics charts.(I'm running the NT-Max card $199.00) He told me something along the lines that all charts no matter which brand, are taken from Noaa marine charts, and that it's likely that I can get more detail by going into the setup screen on my plotter and making some changes. He gave me the tech phone # and said to call when I'm on the boat and they could help talk me through it. I'm running a Northstar 660 explorer with the NT Max card. Is there some truth to this? Overall, I'm happy with it and the sonar function is awesome. I would however like a bit more chart detail on depth lines then I currently have.I know they are your competitor but do you think I could gain more detail by changing some info in the setup menu? I will say that they have been very nice to deal with. Any info is appreciated Thanks
  19. Hey Johnny, how've you been?If this chicken cage minimum size becomes law,I may have to buy some birds of my own.Once the Govt gets through muckin up the works, chicken and egg prices will skyrocket.
  20. C-Map and Navionics are not compatible with each other. If your unit runs C-Map it won't take a navionics card. I run a C-Map in my Northstar plotter and am very happy with it.I have the xtra large card for the Great Lakes and Maritimes. If you have specific questions regarding anything relating to C-Map like which card to get or which card will fit your unit,Give Jeppesen a call. They are owned by Boeing their phone # is 508-477-8010 They have a new fish hot spot chart(not sure if it covers the Gt.Lakes) at this sitehttp://www.jeppesen.com/marine/ligh ... ishing.jsp Their regular site is http://www.jeppesen.com/marine/lightmar ... tactus.jsp They are great to deal with.
  21. Erin, I heard that you became a part time bass fisherman, and stated a new business as a chicken clothing designer.Mini Skirts on chickens?. I miss your phone calls.I'll be up in Olcott next week, you're welcome aboard if your in the area. Hope all in Maine is well, and sorry about your dad.
  22. Wait a minute,it looks like my ex mother in law. They say everyone has a double. I dunno, maybe a partially decayed Gobi or a young Bowfin??? It does look like a celiocanth but they are a saltwater fish that was supposedly extinct until one turned up a few years back.
  23. Actually I didn't forget, the person who made the list did.As I said you can add any that you know of.You may want to add the Wilson boatyard along with the address and any other info. The Olcott marina has Valvetect fuel as well, but I was under the impression that it still has Ethanol in it,but is treated to reduce the bad effects of the ethanol, such as phase separation.
  24. I came across this site on another boating site that I'm active on.I thought it may be of interest to those of you looking for stations that offer Ethanol free gasoline. You can check by state, and add stations that may not be on the list. http://www.pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=NY
  25. Anthony check you pms,I need your address again it dissapeared.I have the check to send to you. Thanks John R.
