  1. I got my plugs for my Yamaha kickers (a 9.9hp & an 8hp)from my local NAPA store.they didn't stock them, but got em in one day for me.
  2. Gee,Thanks for the quick replies and help guys,It's appreciated. That's what make this a great site.
  3. For the last twenty years,I have been taking the Lake Ontario Parkway from 390 to get to Olcott.Does anyone, know what the lowest overpass clearance height is on the LO Pkwy.? You'd think i would know after all these years, but I don't. I've towed my Trophy hardtop on it with no problem, but my new boat is higher. From the ground to the top of the tower,it measures a hair lower than 12 feet. Anyone know if I can make it under the few overpasses on the pkwy? I seem to remember some being around 11-1/2' I tried several NY state and county offices, but nobody could answer the question. Thanks guys.
  4. It doesn't matter whether it's Gander,or Dicks,or cabelas,or any others,They all pretty much suck.I've had some horrible experiences in them all.I went into a local(Mass.) dicks store one day to buy some spoons that are extremely popular on New England lakes for trout.I looked everywhere,in the store but couldn't find any. So, I ask a clerk, and he tells me that they don't carry them.Unbelievable, a spoon that every regular tackle shop in the area use to carry,(until dicks put them out of business),and they don't have them. They did however, have a big selection of Musky baits, and a bunch of lake Erie hot spots maps.I fired an email off to them explaining that absolutely no one in this area fishes lake Erie, and there isn't a viable Musky fishery within a six hour drive from this store, yet they don't have the brains to carry a spoon that they could sell tons of. They got the right name, but they should drop the word "sporting goods" from it. Cabelas is another place that operates their stores in a similar fashion, although much much larger.Their Hartford Ct.store is only a half hour from me,but i never go to it.After several attempts to buy tackle for local trout lakes, without sucess,I gave up.Of course they have seat covers for trucks, and antler table lamps, and camoflage sofas, but not the right spoon selection. About a year ago, l ordered some flashers, for a trip I was making to lake O.I needed them quick,so I ordered them with 2nd day air,and paid the extra for it. Well, the second day comes, and guess what?yep no delivery.I call them up and explain how I ordered them with 2nd day delivery, and the answer I got from a polite woman, was "it's not guaranteed",Whaaat!? not guaranteed? I proceeded to read word for word to her from their catalog, that clearly says "Guaranteed Express" she still didn't get it. I swear,it was like an episode out of Seinfeld, the one with the rental car reservation. Lastly, just because these are big companies,it doesn't make for the lowest price.I recently bought a couple of Scotty electric riggers.I ordered them from a small tackle shop in Everett Washington. He was $170.00 less than Cabela's, for the two riggers, and ships anywhere in the us for ten bucks. I got them in five days via ups.I 'd much rather give my money to local tackle shops, and guys like this, then to a mega store like Cabelas,Bass pro, Gander,Dicks, etc etc. These are the guys that put all the good old tackle shops out of business.
  5. Olcott ,channels 68,72,11,9, and "OFF",when there is too much blabber on it.
  6. I fished with some saltwater guys who swore that Preparation H hemorrhoid cream worked great as an attractant, because it had shark oil in it,but I think they were just a bunch of A$$holes
  7. Name------ --- John Raschi Port -----------Olcott Boat#1 --------22' Trophy Boat name------Reel Easy Boat #2 ---------23' Seacraft Boat name-------King Temper (I have been known to throw a few tantrums) Will be selling the Trophy in the spring, and replacing it with the Seacraft. Been fishing Olcott for twenty years.Great port and great people, and awesome fishing. Can't wait to get back up there.
  8. Whew! that's good news,I know the dog,and Fred,Nice guy and great dog.I'm glad they found him.Now he can take his place back in the cuddy of the Chris Craft.
  9. Throw in a couple of cases of beer,a Canadian license, and a dozen or two of Johns chickens, and I'll take it.
  10. The new style replacement exhaust bellows on the Merc outdrives only have one clamp which is on the front end. When you lower the drive the outside end self aligns itself. There is no need for a clamp on that end.Maybe that is what's on yours, but if not I don't think it would matter all that much.Of course I could be wrong.
  11. Oh yeah, one more thing. If you're not sure which size bag, go bigger if anything. You can always bump up the throttle a bit if the bags slow you down too much. The higher RPM's are better for your engine, and nothings worse than laying out money on bags that won't slow you down enough.
  12. Get the real trolling bags from someone like Amish Outfitters,or Big Papa. They are very good quality bags that will hold up to the stress that trolling puts on them. I used five gallon buckets one year on my 22 Trophy, and they worked, but not nearly as good as the bags. The buckets are also a pain to store, when not in use. The bags fold up into a small package,or you can leave them attached, and placed in a spot under,or on the gunnel when not needed. Dicks???? Good luck! .If you ask them! for a trolling bag, they'll probably send you to the golf department.IMHO,the only thing they got right was the name.
  13. Any good glass shop can make one up for you.I just had several made for my 1974 project Seacraft.I gave them the old ones which were junk, and they made all new ones with 1/4" plate.they drilled a few holes, and sent the glass out and had it tempered. It cost me $300.00,but two of these windows were over six feet long,so it shouldn't cost tons of money for a single piece. They charge for the minimum size piece,so if they have to use a piece of 24x36 to cut your window out of,then that's what they'll charge you for.
  14. I live in Ma. but keep my boat in Olcott NY.Been there for several years.I thought about registering it in NY,as it's less money, but it seemed like a hassel when I contacted the DMV of NY. I've never had a problem. I leave it on the trailer up there when it's not in the water. I'm willing to bet that most out of staters keep their boats registered in their home state. It's just a lot easier, and I don't think you'd have a problem.
  15. http://www.staminainc.com I have always got mine from them, although I have heard that some guys got very slow service and long delivery times.Maybe I lucked out,but I never had a problem with them.Their pice was the best. They carry Mason in 300'spools. You can also get it from http://www.fish307.com,and http://www.moorelectronics.com
  16. I run a long shaft 9.9 Yamaha high thrust on my 22' Trophy, and just put an 8 hp high thrust Yamaha with power trim on my 23' Seacraft. Both are awesome motors, and have no problem pushing these boats. Both of these are long shafts, which I think you'll need on your boat,as others said. Both the Yammies, and Hondas are nice motors. The 8 hp would be plenty to push your boat with.It pushes my seacraft which weighs more than five thousand pounds. Not sure on the Honda, but the Yamaha 8 hp comes with power tilt, which is a nice feature.
  17. If in fact the above is true, and does happen, then it's the typical garbage, that bureaucrats are good for,and that is taking more money for doing the same amount of work. How does allowing more rods equate into more work or extra money having to be collected? Is the state of NY going to have to hire more fish police to enforce this rule?I doubt it. Is this just extortion for allowing more rods?.What does it matter if you're allowed to use one rod or five rods,or single hooks or treble hooks?.Why should that cause higher fees? I'd have no complaints having to pay more for the right to fish in NY,as even at 40.00 for a non resident license,it's a pretty good deal. Many states charge almost as much for a resident license as NY charges for a non resident. So if they raise the non resident fees,I wouldn't complain, but i would hope they don't try to say they have to raise them because they're letting us use three rods.
  18. *****RIGGERS HAVE BEEN SOLD***** I have two Cannon electric MAG10A riggers for sale. They have four foot one piece booms, and come with low profile swivel bases. Both of these are in excellent condition, and were serviced with new clutches, lube, and motor checks last year. These are the big body styles with the large nut that locks them to the base. One is a aluminum body, and the other is the Lexan body. Both have full spools of cable in perfect condition. They have the single up and down toggle switch with a circuit breaker. They don't have short stops. Price is $450.00,or B/O for the pair plus any shipping charges. If anyone is interested, please PM me.I will ship UPS. Thanks guys.
  19. Tim,I'd be interested in it.I sent you a pm.
  20. The liquid in marine compasses,is mineral oil based. It will not freeze, and you can safely leave it in the boat during the winter.
  21. Erby, never mind the hero crap, just send me money.
  22. Not knocking your product,I'm sure they work fine, but why is everyone trying to re-invent the wheel? I made my own planer boards more than fifteen years ago, from free plans in the old Great Lakes Fisherman magazine. They still work perfectly, and perform very good, in all the conditions that I care to fish in.
  23. Yep,small towns are nice, especially before they get yuppified.Once a Starbucks moves in,you're pretty much screwed. The following, is a true story My sister and brother in law,who are retired, love taking weekend trips to Maine, for the ocean scenery, and to do some antiquing.A few years ago,in the fall, they headed up that way,and had planned on buying a few things for their home. For whatever crazy reason,my sister had $3,000.00 dollars in cash in her pocket book/purse.Anyway they stopped at the rest area just over the Maine line to take a break, and get a bite to eat. They finished up,and continued on their way to their destination of wells, another forty five minutes north . They unloaded all their stuff like luggage etc into their hotel room, and that's when she noticed that her bag was missing. The bag that had three thousand dollars in it.She was sick to her stomach, and my brother in law was going crazy. They called the rest area, but no one reported finding it.They then drove back to the area, and checked all around the inside, ladies room, and the picnic area where they ate,all with no luck. They were so upset, how would they ever replace it,and of course it was going to ruin the weekend for sure. They drove back to the hotel, and were going to load the car back up,and just return home. As they entered the room,a person from the front desk called and told them to call home. They called home and their friend, who was watching the house said that a guy from New Hampshire called and said that he found a purse at some rest area. Needless to say, they immediately called the guy,and made arrangements to meet him. This guy gave my sister back the purse with all the money in it.His reason was that he would want someone to do the same for him,and that in the town where he lives, people watch out for one another. She gave him three hundred dollars, but he wouldn't take it.finally, after a lot of pleases he accepted the money. They have now become friends of a sort, and each year she gets a Christmas card from him, always with a short note in it,and she returns the kindness, the same way. This shows some of the spirit and kindness of people that are from small towns, and more rural areas.
  24. Maybe the Governor should take a good look at what's really going on.
