Rubber bands for release clips
Legacy replied to Salmon guy's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
The only purpose they serve for me is early season brown trout fishing. I run blacks releases (and love them) but I feel by adding rubber bands they perform better for the application. Instead of twisting your downrigger line and placing the loop into the release I half hitch 1-2 rubber bands and put them into the release. A few reasons why... I can see the bites better, I feel my hook ups are better, and because of the stretch of the rubber bands I loose less fish. Sent from my moto z4 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Spring Brown Trout on Chinook Divers 1/13
Legacy replied to Yankee Troller's topic in Tackle and Techniques
This setup is money! For me I'm running braid setups. I'm using #1 divers with approx 12' leaders. Prior to running Chinook divers I ran slide divers. This setup out performs slide divers 10 to 1. Sent from my moto z4 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Agreed. The amount of return customers spoke volumes with me. Most of those guys have done hunts elsewhere. Alaska, Arkansas, Iowa, ect. On a side note, my wife thought it was funny that I could go there without knowing anyone there. She sees it as a vacation. I explained to her that it's no vacation. It's hunting. I never even left the lodge to go anywhere but to my hunting spots. Sent from my moto z4 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I believe 9 out of 12 guys were previous customers. Some of these guys had been there 3 times or more. One of the guys mentioned that his son killed a 160+ and his stepson killed a 140+ there on different youth hunts. Everyone saw deer but only 5 of us saw a potential shooter. The only guy to connect actually had his pick between a big 8 and the 11 pt he shot. From wah ti was told, the best week they had there was during the time around the snow storm. The same snow storm that dumped 12"+ around my area and smacked most of the NE. December 9-12ish? Yeah i mean with everything included the price doesnt seem as bad. I could have easily spent a $1000-1200 on 4 days of hunting public land.

No matter how well you think you spool wire on your new reel I would highly suggest before the first time you use it that you respool it under tension on the water. I typically attach a spin doctor and let all the wire out and rewind it all back onto the spool. Also an okuma 30 series reel will require some backing to ensure the spool is 100% full.
