I'm with Les, it all depends and one method can be better depending on conditions. First thing that came to mind was jigging is not always a slow paced activity. Some days you cannot reel in fast enough- those days the jig has got to be moving more than the 2-3 mph the lure goes when trolling. I've always wondered how fast but never figured it out. So that would work against the conservation of energy theory. But it's all about how active the fish are, like Les said. Also doing the same jigging style all the time isn't going to work too well, same as trolling at the same speed with the same lure isn't always going to produce. Different conditions, different style of jigging. And different locations! Depending on the moods you jig different areas.

Slow response, sorry- they are related but apparently these ones are not edible. Getting a tasty invasive would make a nice change!

A water chestnut- haven't heard much about this one. Doesn't sound good, doesn't sound like the end of the world either. But keep an eye out maybe. Ithaca Times article.

Don't sell yet! At least those were grass carp they found. They are often sterile and stocked places to keep weeds under control. Hopefully those were escaped sterile fish, but even if they weren't, the grass carp aren't too bad. If they start finding silver (the jumpers) and bighead carp we're in real trouble.

Yes that's right they're trying to kill the young. They live in the streams for several years before heading to the lake and starting to feed on the fish.

Want to try a new location, which lake?
hermit replied to CatskillBob's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
I would camp and fish out of Taughannock State Park. (As long as your boat isn't too tall, there is a bridge to go under.) Beautiful and great fishing! -

Yeah the DEC does the egg collection later in the year, a survey makes more sense in August. Pretty interesting to see what they bring up, I've sat and watched with binoculars at Taughannock before.

Agreed it's not the rain. We had a lot more rain several times earlier this year that didn't do that to the lake. That last round was nothing compared to the last few months of rain. Algae sounds likely.

Lakers hitting spoons on the surface
hermit replied to On the Hook's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
What Lunchbox said, the alewives are on top and the water isn't too cold so lakers will come up to the food. When jigging I've had them follow the jig all the way to boat and strike within sight. Exciting time of year as you never know when they'll smack it! -

Mine was 6.8 lbs, very happy. Four trips this year (plus a few last year) and finally scored casting! Slightly tougher fishing on our boat with just the one walleye. Just under 3 lbs of fillets. That fish is going to taste so good tonight! It was slow for everyone for hours then all the sudden Justin starts pulling in fish around 3 AM. Pete and I caught lots of bass and I also had a good sized tiger muskie break off boatside. Overall it was a very nice night. Big thanks to Justin and a few other members for helping shorten the learning curve with all your help this spring! Next step is more practice

I just saw some clip ons in a Bass Pro Shops flyer, they had both types, the red/green and one that stuck up a foot or two as the white light. Wasn't paying too much attention to them but I think $25-$30 apiece. Battery powered as BSmaster said. Anyways, nice fish! Heading up there myself Sunday I hope. In between the BBQs this weekend.

Recommend mechanic/ shop in Ithaca to Binghamton area
hermit replied to Bonzoso's topic in This Old Boat
You could try Frog Hollow (607-535-2671) in Watkins, they do Mercury but I haven't been there. Also I've been to Moore's Outboard (607-272-2036) in Ithaca a few times, they're a Johnson/Evinrude place but have done minor work / tune up on my Suzuki before. Might do you a tune up but if it needs actual repairs they won't touch it. -
