I accumalated half of a bushel of old flares. One Fourth of July I tried to fire some off. A lot of older flares the twist off igniter would not open even with vise grips. Besides being a hazardous condition, be aware that the old flares are unusable.

Today an air compressor pushes the water out of the systems with vent fittings showing a lack of water and closing them up to keep them with air. When the sea chest showed air bubbling out, then things were accepted as ice free.
