  1. Your electric motor will take 24 or 36 volts. Your main engine is a 12 volt system. Your electronics and down riggers are 12 volt systems that can be charged by your main and kicker engine charging systems. When I run my Honda 10 hp kicker and the down rigger is pulling, the engine lugs down some so I know it is charging my 12 volt systems
  2. Any time the water is open, this time of year near shore with J13's works well till about 8:00 AM when the sun comes up. Then move out to 50 foot of water with slow trolled light weight spoons.
  3. Drain the swamp! The five per cent fatality rate of this virus will be impacted mainly on the elderly, especially senior politicians, corporate officers and union officials. All the presidential candidates are seniors so your political contributions of all levels are money down the drain also.
  4. Always have a pair of hip boots with you to handle the boat when the docks are under water.
  5. The stock market crash of 1929 caused a "Depression" that lasted years. Unemployment caused lines at soup kitchens. Unemployed youth were desperate for income and crime was rampant. Police officers were laid off. The time for a firearm in every home has come so be prepared. Yet goofball politicians are running for office on gun control laws on all parties. You are now 911, Protect your family and home. Catch and release fishing will be over, you will need fish to feed your family. Ninety per cent of our seafood is imported and that will end shortly. Be prepared for tough times. Those old men running for office now do not have a clue, just listen to their speeches. Maybe they will catch the flu and our government will be run by younger people who will be around in the future.
  6. Beside rescue efforts will be less dangerous out there, your surviving family members will be able to collect your life insurance, Social Security and benefits after the recovery is done. In warm summer water temperatures body floatation happens after a day, cold waters delay the floatation for sometimes months. I learned this in my USCG service where we pulled many bodies from the water. It was not always "life savers".
  7. Search out the video on you tube. Better than the "old man and the sea". With all the hockey and other blackouts you will have something to watch in the evening.
  8. Steelhead in the salt water survive predation from killer whales, seals and other critters. Culling of the weaker fish results in a stronger, faster bred specie. Hatchery fish adapt to survive by seeing the feeder guy first when he makes his rounds. They do not have to hunt for their dinner as salt water fish do. Hatchery fish have over a hundred years of hatchery production that has survival in the wild traits bred out of them. If you want to take true steelhead go to the Pacific rivers and streams in the northern areas.
  9. For good information on walleyes log on to the Ohio Game Fishing site and Lake Erie Fishing section. Jim Stedke, a walleye guru has a winter online seminar that will fill you up with good information. Lake Ontario produces 10# walleyes everywhere but few fishermen target them.
  10. Head boat fishing was best at Islamorada. Eastern shore fishing on the way down is good at Sebastian inlet. Boca Grande Pass is a tarpon and Goliath Grouper heaven. My son broke 750# test line on a Goliath Grouper there at the old phosphate docks. They are the largest bass you will ever see. Shore fishing from the beach at Gasparilla island will have a husband/wife guides take your line out a half mile and drop your bait over the side attached to a mono 8# leader and a brick that breaks off. My grandson took a 900# bull shark there but everything is available there with tuna style tackle supplied. Drone fishing can be done from the beach.
  11. When I worked for Cabela's, 50% of the total sales were clothing. The hunting/fishing lines were to entice the men to bring in their wives where the real sales were made. Sears for years sold tools where the women brought in their husbands so they could do work around the house and the wives shopped for clothes.
  12. With a backing plate the bow works fine. For convenience though add a retrieval line back to the side of the boat to quickly add lines out.
  13. Are our alleged steelheads land locked rainbows?
  14. I have cursed Trump forever, before he became President. but I filled my gas tank at the Cattaraugus Reservation the other day for $1.77 a gallon for reg unleaded. He has my vote now.
  15. There could be some natural reproduction on Canadian streams. Agricultural and forestry practices eliminated the salmon in New York waters a century ago. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Make sure you mount it high enough so the transmitted microwaves do not fry your brain. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. With a outboard engine that is self draining you are good to go 365 days a year. Only a battery charger that has a self maintenance stage that is plugged in will keep you on the water on the lower Niagara River all winter long.
  18. Mounting our down rigger on the far stern of your boat makes using it unsafe and difficult to hook up. It is better to move it more forward for convenience in setting your lines.
  19. Well it is not worth dragging my boat up there any more..
  20. End commercial fishing is not the answer. Monitoring the catch taken properly will prevent boom and bust cycles of fish populations. Sport fishing catch rates are difficult to estimate properly. Catch and release practices do not help management numbers. Population of fishing boats are falling annually as our youth do not take up fishing. Too many unharvested fish are a problem with fish cleaning declining.
  21. This year with little ice on Lake Erie will have good fishing here earlier, maybe earlier than May as the warmer surface waters from Ohio will be blown eastward by the prevailing SW winds and not be obstructed by the usual Lake Erie ice fields.
  22. Early season shallow water near shore trolling requires the use of stick baits that float up you stop the boat for a snag or make a turn and the inside turn lures can sink to the bottom and snag up. Your fishing time is wasted when you snag up there.
  23. The summer falls flow is the maximum flow for tourists. The hydro plants are taking all they can but the Niagara River water level is the highest continually every day, even without seiche events, There is no true flow rates for the entire river flow that I know. What goes over the Falls and the hydro power plants combined is only controlled by nature.
  24. The fourteen fire fighter crew members that responded to the Kirkland Nursing Home incident are now quarantined in their now closed Fire Station. It may not be deadly for the majority of the public but if you show the signs, you will not fly, go to work or school and your life style will be strictly ended.
  25. I use a twenty pound fluke anchor to anchor up in windy conditions. In calmer winds I use a five pound mushroom anchor makes it easy to retrieve when you move a lot. On "slippery rock" shale bottoms no anchor holds.
