  1. No matter how much water they let out, the upper lakes will fill Lake Ontario just as fast. Until the upper lakes come down to lower levels then things will be better. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. With all the extra trout left in the lake, the forage base may not be able to support King Salmon fishery! Now the war will begin with boaters and stream fishers.

  4. Fishing with your children is a way of removing them from the influence of television, the kids down the street and those damn button boxes. Whether you go on the lake, a nearby pond or a trout stream getting the kids away from bad influences. Also it takes away the on the job influences of working parents.
  5. There is very little ice this year and the Power Authority has started removal of their ice boom at the head of the Niagara River. As the open water on Lake Erie warms up, the fishing on the Niagara Bar will start sooner. You should have your boat ready in the next warm spell. The south shoreline waters from Wilson and Olcott will turn on now as tributary streams will warm up near shore waters. The bait fish will migrate to spawning sites and the trout and salmon will be there.

  7. At the Buffalo boat show last week, a lot of boats for fishing, not the shiny gloss and chrome yachts, were welded aluminum. Tracker, the new guy in the area has all welded aluminum boats in the mix now. You have a lot of choices out there now.
  8. As a youth my father launched his boat at Woodlawn Beach on Lake Erie. Hundreds of boats daily used it. No ramp or docks on the open lake. Yes the were smaller sixteen foot or so boats, but all we used were a pair of hip boots and nice waves. Carry some hip boots and these twenty four foot boats should be able to use any dock area as long as some one has boots on to hold your boat as the harbor launches are not on the open lake waves.
  9. Turn your rigger forward, unclip the cannon ball, attach the boards, with the clutch let the board out, set the brakes and clip your lines to the wire. When your lines are in turn on the motor to retrieve your boards. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  12. On the Chesapeake Bay. up to fourteen lines are out on triple boards used for striped bass. I use my electric downriggers with Otter Boards that reel themselves in with the flip of a switch. Also they are easy to access when setting lines out.
  13. It is a rare occasion now when a father has his children alone today and a camping trip is one of them. But to receive your kids attention you must collect the cell phones otherwise you are just a distraction in their lives.

  20. Cormorants were not noticed till some guides went out to Gallooo Island with shotguns and tried to wipe out them, The next day some do gooder bird watchers found the dead cormorants and got the Federal and state agents to enforce the controls on migrating birds on the guides who were guilty of calling attention to the situation. So the government did nothing then and now we have this out of control situation of cormorants
