Are there shops in our region that work on hull rivet replacement?
jimski2 replied to white rook 1's topic in This Old Boat
I replaced 268 rivets in my Starcraft 21 foot mariner. New floor installed. Then the transom brace cracked and I gave up. -
How to stop boat from listing due to kicker motor

Move your battery to the other side to balance your boat. A portable gas tank moved over will help. -

Charting fish on the surface over 200fow
jimski2 replied to mikebarb86's topic in Open Lake Discussion
The plankton bloom happens in 55 to 65 degree water. The forage base feeds on the plankton and the dissolved oxygen level is sufficient on the surface. So this situation calls for you to target your fishing in this area. The use of side planets and jets work well in this water column. Your boat spooks the fish away your graph picture is devoid of large fish that are nearby. If your graph indicates no fish deeper, believe it. -
running both main motor and kicker off of one battery

The direct to the battery bilge pump is a Coast Guard rule. For safety since a bilge pump is independent of all other accessories. -

17 Lake Erie perch cleaned last Friday were full of gobies. No emeralds, crayfish or anything else.

I have seen an aluminum boat that was stored in a marina on the water where electolysis from a power cable corroded the hull so bad it leaked and even patches could not save it. Even your neighbors boat could affect the integrity of your hull. Brass and aluminum are bad news. Zincs are needed for protection.

The weather liars on TV just try to scare you so you continue to tune in for more scaring and panic. If you see white caps it is not good to go.

Is anyone fishing today in all this wind?
jimski2 replied to Todd in NY's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Why risk your life, other's life, your investment in a boat and gear to show you can be very uncomfortable out there? Stay home and cut your grass or something so as soon as conditions are better you can get on the water. -
I cleaned a tank by siphoning the tank through the drain plug into containers after removing the level float assembly. Then we used old tee shirts on coat hangers to wipe the bottom of the tank clean. 1. Make sure your life and boat insurance are in effect. 2. Make sure you are far away from buildings and your neighbors home. 3. You may have to pay to dispose the old gasoline. Just pull the old tank and put in a new tank with new clamps and hoses.

Question on stocking "farm ponds" with bait
jimski2 replied to momay4000's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Flood waters overflow into trout streams and it could make you very unpopular with your foreign invader species. Check with your local fishery biologists for approval. -
I looked at aluminum boats with huge outboard engines mounted and they use triple layers of three eighths inch aluminum plate to hold the engines. You might be able to reinforce your transom by adding the plates bolted through the knee braces.

Commercial salmon trollers want top dollar for their fish. Immediately on landing a fish they remove the gills and evisorate the fish. Rinse them off with salt water and pack the inside with ice and bury them in ice. Even better are those that dip them in super cold brine and then glaze them with fresh water which deals the air from reaching the flesh. These salmon are air freighted to the finest restaurants.

Sun causes the Walleyes to move deeper and 24 foot of water is good lately but the fish are more scattered. Night fishermen unload their fish at midnight and take another limit for the next day. This makes travel gasoline expenses more efficient.

I had a hose on the back of my tank leak gasoline when the tank was full and the front of the boat was elevated to drain the bilge water . Impossible to tighten the clamp. Pulled the tank and now carry three six gallon portable tanks. Easy to fill at the cheap gas station and easy to keep clean from water problems with ethanol deal. They take up some deck space but they do the job.

Ten days of east winds have ended. Warm water is returning to the east end now. Dunkirk and Barcelona areas were hot at night in ten to twelve foot of water. One boat had thirty five. Eighteen before midnight and seventeen the next day.

The bracket adds leverage to the transom causing some of your problem. Anyway you have an unsafe condition and your boat will swamp under on heavy weather.

West Marine on Niagara Street in Buffalo sold them but I believe they are not printed anymore.

The steering Rams have seals at the end that were damaged. This allowed air to be sucked into the system and then the oil overflowed onto the dash. That dealer fixed them with no charge being made.

running both main motor and kicker off of one battery

After ten years I have had no problems . I do have a 3 stage battery charger hooked up 24:7 all year also. I can start my Honda kicker with a pull cord as a backup to charge the battery if needed.
