  1. Well put Chromeslayer. Glen
  2. I fished almost every proam for 5 years now. Had one less than desireable observer, but not to bad, out of all of them. The rest did there job and most really wanted to learn. I was glad to teach them what little I know. As far as my experience goes, I disagree with you whole heartedly. It absolutely DOES help to maintain the integety and quailty of the tournaments. Nothing is perfect though. Life has taught me that. Glen
  3. I keep reading on this thread "I won't fish the pro-ams because I got to have an observer." Bull_ _ it. There are all kinds of rediculous ways you can come up with to eliminate the observer and each has it's own set of inconvienences and faults. Now lets see, we can create all kinds of turmoil and open the door to cheating and a decreased quality experience or guess what.... we can use observers and keep an even playing field for all involved. What a concept. I read this anti observer crap but haven't read one good reason why we should not have observers. My reasons for keeping the observers are it maintains the quality and integrety of the tournaments. That seems like a pretty good reason to me. Anybody else? Keep it simple. Glen
  4. Mosy salmon and trout species will hit better when you have a surface chop as opposed to a flat calm surface. Especially if there in the top 50 feet or so of the water columb. I believe it diffusses the light penitration and the fish are not as skitterish and spooky. Also breaks up the outline of the boat going over them. No hard evidence of this just what I've seen from experience. "A lake trout chop is when you either take a steak hatchet to the flesh" Glen
  5. Thats what I did and I don't have any problems at all. When I put my kicker on I replaced the water seperator with one from Mercury that has one in and 2 outs. Going on the sixth season next spring. Glen
  6. I am also in favor of bringing back the culling rule. Especially after the reduced limit of 6 fish. If the no cull is kept the limit should be raised back up to 9. Let the winners rely on skill to take the prize as opposed to luck. Other than that I thought the proams were very well run and organized. Nice job pro-am committee. Yes Scott, that no cull rule really hurt in Niagara. "Ouch". 45 minutes of fishing on Sunday morning to box out and our weight went down the tubes. Was a real nice payout for 7th though. $1000.00 Glen
  7. The pro-ams where built up and stuctured to be the most prestiges tournament on the lake. That is why my team goes through the serious expense and travel to fish them. We got enough DERBYS. Lets stop trying to turn this tournament into a derby. Got to have observers to keep an even playing field for all involved. The lake cup is THE ultimate prize. My opinion is lets leave this one alone and continue those prestiges pro-am accomplishments. It's also my opinion that the people who fish these pro-ams are top notch sportsmen as well as fishermen. I have fished quite a few of these events and 99% of our observers were very good people. Usually people that are looking to learn new things to improve on there own fishing skills. I guess I could see adding another division and monitor how it would effect the quality of the experience but I hope they don't screw up the amateur division any more. Glen
  8. It's a Brown. If you look closley at the spots on an Atlantic Salmon they are cross shaped. All he got to do is grow into his eyes. Glen
  9. Can't help you out much with that specific area as far as tackle shops and launches as I fish out of the Little Salmon river in Mexico Bay. I can tell you that there are plenty of fish in the lake and 60-80 fow has been good. As far as what to use, read the many reports that have been posted the last couple weeks and that will give you a good idea. I do fish that area from time to time, it's about an 8 mile run, and all you have to do is look for the pack of boats between the North and South dunes. That will put you on fish. Make sure you get information about the channel from Sandy Pond to the lake before heading out. I have never been through it and with the high water this year you might not have anything to worry about but ASK before you head out. As far as Gary goes I would tend to agree with your assement. Good fishing Glen
  10. OK Thanks. He is one lake trout catching machine. LOL Glen
  11. ED, How is Ray G. doing? Have you heard from him latley? Glen
  12. Depends on how much wind there is. Could bring the temp up. We will be up in Mexico next week also. Glen
  13. I used to run an x-19 on my old boat. Sold the boat and I got a brand new transducer in the box. If you need a new transducer I'll let it go for $50.00. Pretty sure I paid about $120.00 for it. Tag on the cable says HST-WSX wide angle. Lowrance part # is 000-016-35. Call my cell if interested. 413-519-3019. I'll be up in Mexico all next week. Now that I think of it it might have been an x-91. Not sure it was awhile ago. Glen
  14. Thanks Richard. Hope to see you there as well. Glen
  15. Didn't see any address to mail the reg. form into on the websight. Anybody got one? Thanks Glen
  16. Thanks guys. Jim you have a pm. Home port is Little Salmon, Mexico Bay. Glen
  17. What are you guys using for releases while running copper off your otters? Thanks Glen
  18. That drag thing doesn't sound good Steve. Glen
  19. Never did get my AP12H to calibrate either. Don't know why but it works just fine without the calibration. I was going to call tech support at Simrad before I pull the boat and address the problem after the Salmon are in the river. What Tim said was on the lines of what I was thinking also. Be sure to let us know if you find the problem. Glen
  20. Back in the old days my father and I would punch a hole in the tail of bass we caught in our local ponds. The hole would heal over but leave a definate scar that you could see. We would use a paper punch that left a small hole and punch off to one side of the tail. Our record was a largemouth that had 4 marks and weighed 6 lbs 5 oz. I could see Pauls point about the meaty fins but doesn't the DEC do fin clips? Alot of the lakers we use to take in the Finger Lakes were clipped and it sure didn't bother those fish. Cayuga and Seneca turned into Laker factorys. Glen
  21. Bill, That would be 3 LOC fish in two trips? Very nice work. Glen
  22. Aqua-view 210. Plastic polish and cleaner. Glen
