  1. Hey Steve, Good to hear you are getting them. We will be out west for the LOC. Usually make a couple trips to Olcott. We'll have to get together. Glen
  2. Just about everything over 6 lbs had eel gouges or scars. Really a shame to see them beautiful fish looking like that. Took one long, real skinny fish with a big head that had 2 fresh deep gouges in him. Probably should have been over 10 but weighed about 6 1/2. Nasty. Chris your welcome anytime buddy. Glen
  3. Headed west out of port with the wife Saturday morning and had the rods set by about 7:00. Stayed out deeper from the pack and found them in about 1/2 hr and proceeded to light them up. Fished until somewhere around noon and had 20 plus a few come over the side of the boat with all but a couple going back in. All Browns with 3 fish between 7 & 10 lbs. Called my friend Irish Knots over who was fishing with Rich D. and son and they spanked um pretty good as well. For us shallow riggers with spoons stretched back 80 foot were out fishing the boards 3 to 1. The boards infront of Rapalas in black and gold and perch were slow BUT steady. Had all 4 rods in the boat on our first pass thru and the first rod going back in took a hit as I was letting out. Very fun day. Sunday morning I had Irish Knots onboard with only a couple hours to fish because of things I had to get done at the camper. Ran right back to the hot spot to find the fish had moved. I only had a short time to find them so I choose to head into deeper water and deeper into the Bay. WRONG. We ended up only doing 3 fish our efforts. Time to get ready for Niagara. Glen
  4. Chris, I ran one in a natural color for Browns the year before last. It was an all day bite for us of about 60 browns and it took a couple fish but no where near what we were hitting on sticks and spoons. Clarke and Smitty was out with me in the morning and Jan, Fred and Ron were with me in the afternoon. Haven't run them for salmon because the ones I had had lead inside them. Would have to run them straight I guess. You going west for the LOC? Glen
  5. Rich, I had the camera in the boat to but the biggest fish was only about 7 lbs and we didn't kill any so I like to get them back in the water as soon as I can. If we hit one over 10 we would have a shot with Chris and the fish. Hopefully next time. Enjoy your day. Glen
  6. Thats all I'm getting to Chris. You heading out west for the LOC?
  7. I run a 15 Honda on my 25 ft Wellcraft. Never had any problem with boat control in any conditions and it pushes the boat around at about 6.5 mph wide open. That being said, it does burn more gas than I like and I believe a 9.9 would have been sufficient. The reason I went with the 15 was it was a left over and I got a great deal on it with power trim, electric start and controls for about the same price as that years 9.9. Both good motors and will do the job. Glen
  8. yup. 4wd . I don't need it often but sure is nice when I do. Glen
  9. Ed, The only problem I had was the first two I bought were from the 1st producton run of the reels. I had line creep on one and they replaced the drag system on it. Shimano was very sympathetic to the problem and were great to deal with. If you go to the websight for the phone # and call the service dept. during regular bussiness hours you will probably get instant results. Good luck. They are great reels. Glen
  10. Put two in the water with the leaders a little shorter and a little longer than protroll recommends. Get up to trolling speed and observe the action at boatside. Then let them both out and see which one is taking more hits. This will tell you what you want to run. Other than that I can't help you much because I don't run the small ones. On small dodgers I run about a 16 in leader but have taken fish with them up to 21 inches. Glen
  11. 20 lb flea flicker with 200 foot of 8 lb test pline 100% flourocarbon on top. When the fleas start showing up I cut the 8 lb floro back as needed. By the time they are in full flea bloom I'm down to about 15 foot of 8 lb and the flea flicker does it's job. Before the fleas start I got straight 8 out there. Glen
  12. Scott... Whos that guy with the Browns? You find him at the launch. LOL
  13. Ken I use real tiny barrel swivels to join the lines. I wanna say size 8's or 10's. Just checked as I'm respooling up for the season and the ones I have here are #8 Spros. They are 50 lb test that I use on the big lake. On the Fingers I'm pretty sure I used to use 10's. Anyway I use a polymer knot for the braid to the swivel and a regular cinch knot on the mono. Never had any issues. Good luck Glen
  14. RM, The derby winner will come from the Niagara bar on May 8th. It will weigh 28 lbs 4 oz and will be caught on the Spoonfed. More than likely by the wife as she doesn't let me get to to many rods. LOL. Glen
  15. Hey Reel Magic, Good to hear from you. You should be happy out at the Bar with Candy. I had a friend of his as an observer in the proams last year. From what I hear he's a good fisherman and you won't be dissapointed. Get in touch with me before then and we can get together out there. The guys at work that sent you that case of plates by mistake are still real happy with your honesty. More important they are still employed. LOL. Keep in touch. Glen P.S. Second place wil be just fine.
  16. Rich we will be out from the 5th to the 13th for the derby. Staying in a cabin. Can't bring the camper and boat so we rented a cabin. We should know where they are by the time you get out so maybe save you some time looking. Glen
  17. Rich, We are staying at the KOA you recomended. Dinner sounds great. Looking forward to it. glen
  18. wmuerb Thanks alot. I appreciate that. Just got off the phone with him and we are all set. Enjoy your day. Glen
  19. Hi Rich, Nope. There wasn't any weigh station in Youngstown the last time I was out. I stayed east last year. Did a search on the internet but can't come up iwth any names. Thanks Glen
  20. Looking for a slip on the Niagara river for the LOC. Any names? How about that marina next to the Yacht club in youngstown. I understand they reopened? Thanks Glen
  21. Andre, that is a common problem with Braids and slide divers. Before you clamp the lever down on the piece of surgical tubing rotate it 90 deg then clamp it down. Should take care of your slippage. Personally I run a mono leader of about 50 foot after the Braid and clamp on that. I like the mono leader as it acts some what like a snubber behind a dipsy. Glen
  22. Andre, If the fish are spooky you might be better off using slide divers instead of dipsys. Slide divers work the same as dipsys but you can run them a lot farther away for the lure. With wire you add a piece of mono about 50 or 60 foot long. You let out the mono as far as you want. Usually 30-50 foot and then set your diver. Very good system for big old smart, spooky fish. I run 20 lb test wire and really wouldn't want to go with anything lighter. I run 7 strand Malin wire and have been happy with it. Good luck. Glen
