  1. Fishing is good anywhere from the 25 line to the 30 line a little east or west.
  2. We failed to meet our 10 boat minimum today so we are going to hold the tournament tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will be more cooperative too. If anyone entered today and cannot fish tomorrow their money will be refunded.
  3. Right now we will use the Small Craft Advisory Rule that the proams have. If there is a small craft advisory posted at 7 AM the tourney will be cancelled unless the advisory is set to expire. We could certainly use Sunday as a blow day if that is what everyone wants. Post here if you want Sunday as a "blow day".
  4. They are being compiled right now. I should be able to post something in the next day or so. Don't forget the third leg of the King of the Oak Series is THIS SATURDAY. Sign ups, forms and rules are the same.
  5. I run a charter out of Pt Breeze. I'm in NY all summer. I live in Erie Pa so I'm not that far away anyway. PM me here or give me a call at 716-390-0085. Ill be glad to help you help. Paul
  6. Evenings can be every bit as good as mornings. We run a lot of "doubles" and quite often our 4 hour evening trips will out fish our 8 hour day trips. If you have to make a choice pick the most comfortable weather because the actual "catching" is a toss up. Right now anyway.
  7. Love the smack talking and "action". Too bad I have doubles that entire weekend---I would love to be there to witness the "beat down"!
  8. If a rigger fish "ripped .....across the copper" all you had to do was lift the copper rod up and over the line with the fish on it. A rigger fish is not going to do loops around your copper. If the fish hits a port side rigger and runs over to the starboard side all you need to do is lift the copper rod OVER the rigger rod and take it to the port side---copper cleared. Truth be told---wire divers are FAR more "dangerous" to rigger fish than copper will ever be simply because they are always under tension and the wire acts like a knife. I have never seen copper cut a fish off---EVER. Good luck with your choice--whatever it is.
  9. Regardless of who you choose keep in mind that the biggest of charter vessels can only take 6 passengers at a time. To accommodate more than 6 you would need 2 boats.
  10. You most certainly CAN run copper down the chute. You just can't ignore it when you have a fish on another line. You MUST pay attention to where the fish is and where your copper is and move your copper accordingly. The copper is far enough away from everything it should never be a factor. Copper didn't lose those fish--YOU did---by not paying attention to what was happening around you.
  11. It's too bad the "GOOSE" didn't loosen up his wallet. He would have made an extra $2400 CASH!!! LMFBO.
  12. I guess I should have elaborated more. Temp graphs "can" be useful In the summer when targeting steelhead which occasionally orient to surface breaks. They are also useful in the few times a summer when the lake undergoes a temp inversion---usually after a prolonged east or northeast wind.
  13. Satellite temp graphs are really only useful in the spring. Once the transition is complete surface temp becomes almost irrelevant.
  14. Back to back uni knots. I've boated two kings over 40# and MANY over 30 and have never had one fail. The key to using back to back uni knots is to wet it and DO NOT pull the tag ends until the knots cinch tight. Pulling on the tag ends to tighten uni knots results in a knife effect.
  15. Then you are buying junk line or not tying your knots properly. Fluoro needs to be WELL lubricated or it will burn and cut itself. High quality lines like Blood Run or Gamma DO NOT break for no reason and are hardly "junk".
  16. Be careful what you wish for my friend. Those of us that have been around longer than a few years remember how welcome lake trout were on an otherwise dismal day. More than one charter has been saved with the lowly lake trout. In fact, several BIG charter operations on the east end of the lake were built and sustained on lake trout. I remember several ProAms that were won almost exclusively with lake trout. Lets not forget that people still pay THOUSANDS of dollars to go to northern Canada to TARGET lake trout. Accept them for what they are---another fish that we can fish for that MOST clients are happy to catch.
  17. A thermacell will kill every fly in your cabin in less than 10 minutes. They work on deck under the shelter of your top as well. Too much wind and you lose the benefit but they do work.
  18. Are you sure it's a bilge pump? Many boats have air conditioners that pump water continuously.
  19. Depends on what port you are fishing out of. Mid May is hard to beat in Wilson or Olcott. In mid to late July you would be VERY hard pressed to find a better Port than Oak Orchard.
  20. I don't think I have EVER seen fleas stick to leadcore or copper. Check out Blood Run Tackle's website for very interesting and informative depth data. It should answer all your questions.
  21. With the spring brown trout fishing under way I thought I would share this brown I just finished for a client. Just under 16 pounds its a true trophy spring brown.
  22. Hey Doty, One of the BEST laker baits of all time was shown to me in the mid eighties by Olcott Captain Dell Rowles. Some of you old timers may remember him and his yellow Sea Ray. Dell was one of the ORIGINAL ProStaffers for Luhr Jensen and Yakima. He showed me his "laker secret" in 1988 when we were running a group laker trip---yes....some people would actually charter for them. LOL. Anyway....his go to laker setup was a size 0 Luhr Jensen or Les Davis Dodger in yellow trailed by a Yellow/Green 1 inch Spin and glow about 26 inches back. He would run that rig about 15 to 25 feet behind the ball and drag it as close to the bottom as possible---occasionally bumping bottom. Keep in mind this was PRE zebra mussels---today you might want to avoid that. That rig accounted for more lake trout than anything on my boat in the 4 years we ran that "laker group". Most times the guys would end the day when they got tired of reeling lakers! Here's a pic of the rig. It works VERY well in Lake Erie too.
