  1. Observer found! If anyone else is interested in Observing and learning while getting paid for it you can contact Mike Waterhouse at 585-749-3966.
  2. We are in need of an observer for the upcoming Orleans ProAm June 9th and 10th. We pay $75 per day plus your room (if needed) and free fishing on Friday. Call Paul at 716-390-0085.
  3. Not to pee on your parade but the June transition has hit the West end too. Gobs of floating moss, horrendous currents, temps all over the place and most of the west end is a liquid desert right now. I fished yesterday for 4 bites! Landed one good king, dropped another, got a skippy and a steelhead and I covered a LOT of water from Wilson west. FWIW there is a decent coho bite if you dedicate your entire program to the top 30 feet. Good luck!
  4. You need to recharge the chip. Look online and find the charging adapter, plug it into your computer and download the charge direct to your chips.
  5. I love super aggressive kings just like I love super aggressive turkeys and super aggressive deer! Makes killin em easier!
  6. Couldn't have said it better myself Rod! WAIT.....I think I did!
  7. I do it a lot. When the cohos are in the "diver mood" you can really run up the score by putting divers on your boards. I have plain home made boards and, although the divers pull hard, I've never had a problem with the boards or the releases.
  8. You can run any color you want........as long as you paint it BLACK!
  9. Spike when I lived in New Zealand that was my favorite way of fishing when not casting. I would troll my fly rod to the river, park the boat, change reels and then spend the day casting. The technique is called "harling" and is quite simple as you know. It is also highly effective. When I did it I would hold the rod in my hand and pinch the line in my fingers as I only had a single action reel. The strikes are amazing! With today's reels, lines and flies that are available I'm sure it would be even more effective today than it was back then. If you're tying your own flies something like the one above would work in clear water. I would tie up a similar pattern in orange and green or yellow for the stained water. Have fun! Gosh I miss New Zealand now!
  10. I've talked to several Coasties about that and it is said that drowning or hypothermia victims are often found naked. Crazy things happen to the brain when the body comes under extreme stress.
  11. I believe he WAS wearing a life jacket---a zip on coat type. The Coast Guard found it unzipped and floating 500 yards from the overturned boat.
  12. And the one thing you will ultimately learn, Jay, if you haven't already, is that temp means NOTHING to fish when they are feeding. I catch more kings and steelhead "out of temp" than in temp and sometimes ridiculously so. Keeping yourself "grounded" by adhering to preferred temps is the surest way to be embarrassed at the cleaning station. Think outside the box (and the temps) because the fish sure as heck do!
  13. Mike Vernelson is an extremely talented taxidermist, sculptor and special effects artist who also designs some of the most incredible dioramas in the world for zoos and museums. He is currently living near the Oswego/Mexico area although he travels a lot due to his museum and zoo work. I will send him an email and tell him to take a look at this post and he can decide if he wants to post his number.
  14. Nice to see some "our" kings showing up. I've been absolutely AMAZED by the number of wild (adipose clipped) kings showing up this year---it looks like you had quite a few too. Great catch! Congrats!
  15. Classy post! For what its worth, these "changes" were worked on by some of the best fishermen on the lake. Those of us that "suck" appreciate what they did.
  16. You won't find a much better knot than the Uni for fluoro. Just remember to not pull on the tag end when tightening and always lube it with spit. No need to add an extra swivel if you have a snap swivel on your terminal end.
  17. Guys fishing Olcott had several cohos in with their kings. We had a nice fat 4 pounder at the Oak on Saturday. They're coming Bruce....be patient.
  18. Its no riskier than trying to put a net under one. The key is knowing "when" the fish is ready and "when" to let go if he changes his mind.
  19. I would if you fished more than just weekends! I also showed you how to catch Erie Walleyes. Maybe we will do some derby fishing this year.
  20. You should fish with me sometime Rick! I run long (8ft) leaders of 50# on my SD/diver rigs. Depending on how short the angler is and how far back he can get the rod I occassionally have to "leader 'em". Its a blast reaching up, grabbing the leader, and hauling a ticked off 25 pound king to the net. Its the closest you'll get to big game fish landing on this lake!
  21. The Oak was VERY good on Saturday. Four of us had charters and everyone had at least one king and all the browns clients could catch. I had a buddy fish Olcott, however, and I think Olcott had a few (understatement ) more kings.
