  1. Ok, you can do the Ray thing or you can just let the dipsy out until you start catching fish and then stagger your other dipsys around the one producing. You do not have downriggers or down temp so you have no confirmation that your lures are running where the fish are (According to Lowrance) except for the throbbing rod when the fish hits. I have caught a fish or two on dipsys and I have not looked at a chart while on the water since 1986. Dipsys have too many variables: Lure drag, line, speed, slow side of boat, fast side of boat -- other than a free slider it is the most variable presentation you can have and should never be considered "precision", just duplicatable. All that being said, I had 7 hits on dipsys today so tomorrow I will start them where I finished today (50# powerpro #2 - 300', 30# wire #2 - 280') In your situation, I would suggest a 500' copper rig, marked at 50' intervals, at least you have a pretty good idea where it is running based on line out. IMO more precise than dipsy divers. CC PS. The more I think about the dispy may be even more variable than the free slider. Food for thought!!
  2. Good question Rick. I think that you could get by year after year with a yellow, green and a white echip (or flasher of choice) and some green fly. I know a guy that runs a small spoon - i dont even know which one behind a yellow spin dr and he is always catching fish on that set up. Me - I never catch fish on a flasher/spoon........Why?...... Cause I never run one!! CC
  3. If you want replys to questions post your questions in the forum for questions not in the fishing report forum. Just a thought & my advice.

  6. I thought I saw a post for the NK lure sale this week, but now I can't find it and the information. Could someone please direct me to it? Thanks, CC
  7. One is sold the other is still available. Includes transom mount triducer.
  8. You should be runinng a spoon on the slider. There is no way for the slider to go all the way down to the ball, I am sure the slider is running right, the problem lies either in the way you are releasing you line from the ball, or the quality of the snap swivel you are using is not enough to keep your slider & line from spinning up. If you are running spoon above spoon you should not be getting tangled. CC
  9. Gene, Nice work!! 8 for 8 can't get any better than that!! Good job getting the high fish to bite in that 100fow area, I couldn't do it and had to move offshore!! CC
  10. Gee Tim we agree again, what's next sitting around a camp fire singing??
  11. Tim, As we reach your age we will have the same problem Im sure!!! I split the screen on my 400. I don't have much problem seeing it as I have it mounted right next to my center rigger. I can see riggers bait and fish. \ CC
  12. I don't fish alone much, but when I do and I am trolling I wear a pfd. Often times I am in my boat with several clients who know as much about the boat as I do about women so part of my saftey speech is if I fall out turn off the key and then throw me the ring bouy. The captain should always instruct the rest of the boat what to do in the case of MOB!!! CC
  13. My advice -- Find a kind pleasant, easy to talk to charter captain and hire his boat for an evening of fishing then bug him on the phone before every trip to his port and call him while on the water as well. If he does not think it is a good idea for you to call him, hire someone different!! CC
  14. Last weekend I took off the 30lb leaders and we were fine. The species of flea is different now they attach but dont stick, a quick flick and they are gone. We were offshore-- it may be different close to shore. CC
  15. Ray, I still need to put that water/heating line into the barn, the way I see it -- I can hire you and it can take us........what about 3 -4 days to get it done??? CC Shawn -- great post!!
  16. Take her to the slots at finger lakes, teach her how to play bridge, hook her up with some church so she can bake caseroles for funeral dinners and life will be good!!
  17. From 1979 until 2007 I had Cannons they were great, if you can buy Cannons from the 80' or early 90's get them and get an extra for parts. When I realized that parts for the old Cannons were going to be phased out and hard to get, I "upgraded" to the new ones, white with steel spools very fast but they had proplems with counter/spool ratio. When I put all three riggers to the same depth on the counter, they were at different depths in the water and the margin of error was +/- 11 feet!! That is not good!!! Cannon's new customer service "Send them back to us and we will take a look at them and get them back to you within 4 weeks" that was the 3rd week of July and I had 30 charters to run in the next 4 weeks. To disagree with Ray's comment of the best riggers are the ones on the boat your fishing on, these Cannons made fishing misserable I got rid of them FAST and bought Big Jon's (if you want my full opinion on Cannon.humminbird pm me) The Big Jons did the trick, but little things bugged me, like counter springs jumping off and having to reset counters, cable back lash cause I couldn't get used to the lift arms and the brute went too fast for me. I replaced them with Scotty's and I (Mr. Fussy) have had NO problems with them they set easy, have accurate counters and are plenty fast. I still think they look more like a toster than a rigger, but they have been solid!! I would recommend Scotty's. I had a set of old electric Proos and they were good riggers if you can find them. So to recap New buy Scotty Used buy Cannon but beware you can't get some parts (if you buy old Mag 10's you may never need parts) Used buy Proos electric Those are the only ones I will comment on because they are the only ones that I have extensive experience with.
