Foster, your unit is essentially the same proceedure except after you shut it down press and hold the Z IN and Z OUT keys and push the power button and then release the two keys when the USA map appears. This a hard reset. THIS WILL LOOSE YOUR GPS MEMORY IF DONE THIS WAY! If you want to keep the memory push and hold the PAGES key and hold the PWR key until the USA map appears. This will preserve any gps memory. I'm not sure if this will help but if you are not seeing any images on the screen it could be due to other factors not related to reset and may require sending the unit to Lowrance for repair or software upgrades. Check your cables and transducer for damage sometimes even a scrape on the transducer surface can cause problems. Hope this helps!! Mark

coup, when you are on the water try sitting still and drop a rigger ball or even a metal lure down off the boat. you should see the image on the screen. there have been times trolling in unfertile areas where you are looking at the screen and it seems like you are at the drive in movie in the middle of january, but if you don't see the ball then try a hard reset on the unit and see if that works. here's how shut it down press and hold right and left arrow keys press and hold power key release both bottons when unit powers up NOTE this also delets stored data if that is a concern. the x85 is a fair unit......3000 watts not overstuffed with power but will read 1000 ft with 192kz trans ducer. I prefer somthing over 4000watts and a 200 kz trans. If it still dosen't work I wouldn't waste time or money on it and do an upgrade to a later model with more watts.

I own and drive my own 18 wheeler and I also fish lake Ontario when I'm home. The truck runs 48 states, 6000 miles a week in a team operation and I do get around to see the differences in fuel costs across the nation. Diesel fuel being higher than gas in all states is the norm right now, however, in New York and Pa the price is the highest on the average than any of the other contiguous states. This is in part due to the taxes imposed on the fuel but there are states that charge similar tax rates and they are 15 to 20 cents a gallon cheaper than NY and PA. Must be the privilege of living here that we pay for I guess. Any way I see hundreds of new oil derricks going up every year around Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming just to name a few so the supply must be there for more pumps unless these are just to replace defunct wells, I don't know but there is plenty of drilling going on right here, I think we need to keep it here, if it is any good, send the sour stuff over to China or someplace where they can use it. Any way...if a truck brought it... It's going to cost all of us more for everything right down to our shorts and split shot. $4200 last week to run the truck on diesel averageing $4.35 per gallon nationwide. $4.599 here in NY. and yes driving habits do effect your bottom line even if you slow down to the speed limit which is not the American way but try it and you will see in time. Carpool to the fishing grounds and share the expenses, all of them. This is what I do to keep my trips to Canada within reason. It can be difficult to get the time off at the same time but it is worth the extra effort if you really want to go.

Set up in 60 ft out from the wall and only had one knockoff in three hours AM. Then picked up and ran out to 27 line set up and went north, riggers at 40 and 60ft, copper wire dipseys out 150 ft. 2.5 setting. Just pulling spoons, nk28s and pirate 66 sparkle watermellon. trolled out to over the 30 line and started hooking up on Steelhead. One on dipsey/watermellon and another on pirate chicken wing rigger at 40ft....2 for 4 for three hours in the afternoon in 487ft to 560ft of water. 2.5 gps. four other boats out there. talked to one and they had similar results.. all steels. Wind out of the east made a bumpy chop. Otherwise a good day. Mark

I'm with ya on the FUN on light tackle . I used to use a Shakespear wonder rod (9ft fly rod) and a small spining reel spooled with 12 lb silver thread and a maxim chamelion leader of 8 lbs. in the lower salmon river. Ya definitly gotta be mobile. Good job!!

I agree chugbug, the knot is a concern and yes if you use larger diameter line like ande or even up to 40 lb trilene for the part used to the ball from the reel it should be flea free. What the heck , it isn't gonna scare fish away any worse than the rigger cable, right? I'm trying some 45 lb copper for my dipsey rigs this weekend. I hope this will work to keep fleas off and get the lures down deep.

Fleas were a pain with straight 17 lb trilene then I went to using the trilene for backing and spooled on 20 lb fleaflicker (enough to run from reel to ball at least 200 feet) and then back to a 50 foot 17lb leader for the ball to the lure portion. Fleaflicker is flat and is not very well adapted to splice knots like the nail or double blood. I've had to pay very close attention to the formation of the splice and test the integrity with scrutiny. It has broken several times under stress test and I've had to retie untill satisfied with the strenghth of knot. If someone knows of a super knot and how to tie it for this combo it would be a great thing.

Well I got to go fishin' again However without the clown act from the other day, just a real good time and some fishy smell on my hands and tackle. Went out to near the same area again in 440 fow riggers down 40 and 60. Sat down at the helm for maybe two minutes and WHACK the starboard rigger goes off :shock: THAT WAS QUICK, nice healthy 20 lb king came to the net chowin' down on the new E-lure I just got last night. that one was the 60ft set. that was about 8AM, by 9 or so things changed with the water column, and started marking fish in the 25 to 40ft range. Moved the riggers up to that level and hooked up fast again on the E-lure, I'm thinkin' this lure is now! Nice king on again and it did tricks on the surface for awhile kinda like a Marlin, but shook me off and said goodbye. Not to be outdone the port rigger goes off draggin' a NK28 polished brass hologram. A juvenile has all three points stuck in it's maw. Released him for a fight 3 years from now :roll: Went around in circles for the rest of the AM and had one more acrobat shake me off and several knockoffs. All in all a good day except for the big rollers from the NE :mrgreen: OH and BTW the fleas don't bother so much now that I've switched to Fleaflicker line in 20 lb. Speed for the day 2.1 - 2.7 GPS variable, surface 72 degrees, heard radio report of 52.5 at 30ft. Lots of boats inside waters lookin' for browns. Well now I gotta go to work for 3 weeks but will be back for Labor Day week. I'll have this laptop and a broadband card to keep me entertained while I'm in my office. Yeah, the net marks came while I was still panting and sittin' there slack jawed over the whole expierence, just sat there lookin' at it wonderin' how much the taxidermy man would charge for a mount. Sure was thinkin' about the derby about 2 minutes after I got oxygen back to the brain. I wish I had the time to spend on the lake but this was only the first time since Memorial weekend I could get out. I will enjoy salmon steaks marinated with butter, garlic, parsely and chive on the barby real soon tight lines to all and get out if you can, IT'S GOOD FISHIN' COMING BACK Mark

I can only guess at about 28lbs didn't have a good scale but did measure at an even 36".

Look at what I got! Went west out of port on a heading of 330 out to 420 fow fishing alone and set up two riggers 50 ft and 35 ft. All was calm for a couple of hours then the circus began and I was the main clown! First the starboard rigger fires pulling a big watermellon pirate, Grabbed it and started to throttle down for the fight when the port rigger goes off pulling a red and green pirate 55 with black ribs. thats the BIG ONE! :shock: Still trolling along to keep eveything sort of in order, reel in the small 20" king while looking hopelessly at port side reel smoking in the rod holder. Steer, grab throttle to stop grab screaming rod that has had 500ft. stripped out and start the next fight. It goes 20 minutes. Got the fish in the net once and it swam out! for another fight. finally got him in the boat. Sweating , Shaking, sat down for ten minutes to calm down. Realized WOW THIS ALL HAPPENED WITHOUT BROKEN TACKLE! The riggers still hanging in the lake. Had marked the spot on GPS and drifted 1/2 mile from the spot during all this confusion! All good though went 3 for 4 with another juvenile king and a knockoff. Fleas were a pain during the fights :evil: Speed 2.3 Gps heading north, calm seas, water clear, surface temp 74.6

I personally haven't seen or heard of a lot of walleye caught around west of Rochester recently, but they are there and not alot of people actually fish them regularly because of the great salmonid fishing. I have seen the spawners in the back waters of braddocks and cranberry just west of the Rochester area. Where they are now is beyond me :? Maybe the shoals of Watoma at evening could be good when they come up to feed at dark. Goby heaven there I know if you leave bait on the bottom long. In the spring there was action outside the breakwall at night at Point Breeze/ Oak Orchard river but I haven't been there at nite recently. Maybe someone can help more on the reports if they have been out there cause I know there are walleye in these spots but just what is working and when is the :?:

I've got a line counter reel, i suppose I could try to re-spool the wire onto it but I think when I go out again I will see how many passes by hand puts out how much line on the counter then I could translate the finding to the wire reel (like 2passes are 3 feet or whatever). I know it will only be a SWAG estimate (scientific wild ass guess)as to how far and deep it goes. The stainless seems in good condition and is single strand, unknown what test or diameter, but it has a kinky personality, I don't even know if there is enough to reach 300 feet. So far I can see the advantage of the deep dipsey and less stretch as NY FOREST has said. I suppose the sea fleas will still cling on but the wire might cut them off as they come in right? I have been away from using dipsey divers for many years and now have gained some intrest in using them again but I see every body speaking of trolling wire. Is that for towing the dipsey? Can someone tell me the reason for using wire instead of mono? Is it for the reduction of flea collection or better depth or both? Seems like wire is cumbersome but I'll try it if it has some merit over using mono. I do have a Penn 309 spooled with stainless that came from a lawn sale, haven't used it though, would that be useful for towing dipsey. I'm not sure I have an apropriate rod for it unless one has steel guides. Thanks, Mark

went out 6/2 to off the lakeside area and water temps were in the 60s so went further to 500ft of water there was the scum line. Managed a couple of hook ups on a flat line 150 ft back in the prop wash right in the middle of the scum, but didn't get em the boat temps there were fluctuating from 55 down to 49. Riggers did nothing untill went back to 250 feet and 30 feet down. managed one very small king that was hitchin a ride on the ball. Flies out at the scum line were swarming. skipper out
