  1. Ray is just upset because he is already doing his part to reduce gobal warming by casting a shadow (round not tall)... on the earth and not wearing a hat so the suns rays will bounce up to space....Ive heard he wears tin foil cap while trolling to keep the water temps down and blind the biting flies8)
  2. Last minute excitement..YAHOOooo!...way to blow the carbon out..and some sweat, WHEW!....WHAT A RUSH..I CAN FEEL IT all the way down here in the Louisville office! Way to go Mark...NICE FISH skipper.... aka Mark (great name too!)
  3. Also for your setup useing a simple one switch two charging system on two batteries is this proceedure below...see schematic...You need to be aware that the two charging systems must be isolated, otherwise you could burn out a stator on the alternator...this will do it the most simple way...you can do others but they are more involved with extra switches to tie together everything or else isolator switches...This is by far the cheapest and easiest way listed below. Normal Operating Procedures In the "new" dual battery wiring, the two batteries and the two engine charging circuits are entirely isolated so long as the OFF-1-BOTH-2 switch is NOT in the BOTH position. The switch serves a dual function. In the OFF position it disconnects the house load from the batteries. In the 1 or 2 position, the house load is powered from a single battery as selected. In the BOTH position, the house load is powered from both batteries, and the two batteries are connected in parallel. The BOTH position should only be used for special cases, such as attempting to start an engine and needing additional battery power. To prevent the paralleling of the engine charging circuits, when operating in the BOTH position it is advisable to only run one engine at a time. The only time the BOTH position may be needed is in starting an engine whose normal battery is too weak to crank it over. In that case, the selector can be moved to the BOTH position, temporarily paralleling the batteries and allowing the engine (whose battery is weak) to be started. Once the engine is running, the switch can be moved out of the BOTH position, and the second engine started from its battery (which should have enough charge remaining to crank it). Thus the normal operating procedure is: For normal operation, select OFF, 1, or 2 as appropriate to attach the house load to a selected battery . To parallel batteries for starting, turn the switch to the BOTH position. Return the switch to OFF as soon as first engine starting finished. Start second engine. If house load is needed connect to strongest battery, either 1 or 2 If the suggested procedure is followed, the charging circuits of the two engines will not be connected together in normal operation. One engine can charge two batteries, but two engines should not charge a common battery.
  4. Your schematic looks good except for one very obvious over sight.....The switch for your battery connects are missing the very thing you want to do...and that is shut off every thing at the end of the day....don't forget the OFF position on your battery switch...it's missing Notice the OFF position on this perko switch, this is the one on my boat and when you turn it off every thing is off that is not DIRECTLY wired to the battery..but runs through the switch....I think your problem is solved
  5. Here's my 22 ft Aquasport Osprey, 9.9 four stroke on the integral dive platform about 4000lbs with 225 and 100gal gas and Ive had four people on board as well....does well NO PROBLEM but you need some extra cord on the pull start unless you got an electric....also need a way to raise and lower the kicker without getting out over the back of the boat...big waves will not be friendly..so I use a boat/dock hook to reach it without the need for slipping off the back of the boat. Mark
  6. (feramones) they use to locate each other for mating thats why so many flock to the site of the funeral....this is just my therory and im sticking to it.... Imagine the turn out at funerals everywhere if WE were like that, Ray No black ....just buffy
  7. great job, esspecially if you didn't loose any tackle and get wound up on the rigger cables or something....I've learned the value of electric auto stop riggers, last year I had manuals and did a double, it's quite a fire drill to say the least...sure gets the sweat going and the knees a shakin...and then how many minutes later your way off the spot where it all started when you are ready to start again....or maybe not if that was enough for one day
  8. I've noticed they prefer ankle meat....and I've also noticed that at least one commercial fly and insect repellent (can't remember the name) DOESN'T WORK  maybe yard guard fogger? THE BITES ITCH FOR WEEKS...everytime I walk or get my feet hot and the socks work around my ankles....it's scratch itch scratch cycle time
  9. Slow troll to 1.4 up to 2.2 or so and if you want to stack something on the cable try a big flutter spoon like a fire tiger evil eye...lakers love slow red stuff that wobbles good at slow speeds run it back a short bit from the bells about 10 feet up the cable but be wary of a snafu if there comes a strike on the bell setup...keep the ball right near the bottom (even clunking the bottom) on the outside of where the thermocline meets the bottom. Cold water is what they like where it meets the botom. They don't like to chase thier food too much so keep her slow and your likely to get the attention of a few "mud chickens" with the cowbell setup.
  10. An ounce of perception is worth a pound of obscure ...Getty Lee (RUSH) said that in a song...and there you go... :!: That cell phone radar is really good to have out there cause it can give you real time lightning strikes that occur in the area.. so if a storm looks ominous and you wonder if it is a danger with lightning,, this can help you decide if there is a reason to run or stay... It's called MyCast 5 Weather...avialable for sprint nextel, and possibly others..I use it all the time and it is well worth the $3.95 a month subscription Mark
  11. Exactly right jolly, we need to talk to the legislature, Canadian federal, Ontario provincial, US federal, New York State and any other border states that are reading this and have some concern for the fisheries here in ALL the Graet Lakes....and remind them that someday there will be a huge deficit in the tax base for the functionality of the governments..what ever that may be...but it should remain hgh on thier list of important issues to maintain recreation and the attraction of money to the area...lobbyists need to bring our point closer to a solution to the preservation of the sport...I'm sure they understand all the other consequences of the plugging of water intakes and other bad issues of the invasives...but I'm not so sure they get the whole larger picture...Maybe The collapse that just happened recently in Huron should be brought to highlght and the resultant losses of tax support to the state of Michigan..Lord knows they already are broke in that state, but I wonder if they realize why in the big picture...they think it is due in a greater sense to the auto industry woes, but I bet they haven't assessed the damage done to the local economy by the collapse in Huron.... The only thing Ontario has going for it is the relative lack of shallow embayments where the mussels thrive the best....unlike Huron that has many bays and shallow water structure, for the mollusks to thrive.. Quaggas and Zebra mussels are progressing everywhere unfortunately, even out to Lake Havasau, in Nevada and California, some have been found in the Colorado river system and that's just a minute list of the infestation...just remember to clean your boat and equipment real good before going to other lakes and water systems...that's how they got into Lake Simcoe, Ontario..Use bleach solution in the bilge and other water vessels in the boat...and don't forget the trailer....It all helps to keep the spread to a minimum...It's a disease that needs a cure that's for sure. Mark
  12. Excellent shot of the yougster fishin' with dad....brings back memories of when I could take mine fishin all the time...Now he's 21 and it's the song "Cat's in The Cradle" now for me...Enjoy while their small every chance you get...and don't work too hard...tradin' time for money ain't everything
  13. The state of NY should cater to Lake Ontario....it's the one of the biggest hand that feeds them from millions of dollars spent here from locals and out of state money as well....and thats money that would otherwise be spent in other states...remember the tax base from sale of everything related to sport fishing in the state...and that is pretty important to all the legislature and the politicians pockets in Albany...But that's another subject and way too deep to go into from gas, lodge, food, tackle, licence, and even the tickets that the DEC writes so many times during the fall run. It all feeds the pig in Albany and they better NOT FORGET IT :!: ..WHAT ABOUT THE LOTTERY MILLIONS EVERY WEEK! ok ok ok now I'm off the beaten path...sorry..I just wanted to bring attention to a fishery that has gone bye bye... not that it should be any concern to charter business alone...It's my concern and yours cause we like it so much..the fishing that is...and the solution should not wait for another collapse. Mark
  14. Ray, I wondered where that kid...I mean fishfinder went with his mask and snorkel...you pay him $500? that runt will probably jump ship again for another increase in pay soon as everyone fiqures out how good he is...boy it's hard to run my boat now all by myself going up and looking down in the water..takin' off the mask and runnin' back to steer and grab rods...he sure was worth the 20 bucks I paid him  . Good job on the fishin' hell with the raincoat...just buffy it. Mark
  15. yeah, I'd say that was a strange thing in the afternoon cause I think the hot rod boats and jet skis would have shut them off :!:
  16. splice in a sailfish or hammerhead coming to the net.....start a new invasive exotic species, for sport.
  17. I'm checkin' up on you guys from the Milwaukee office, shure wish I could been out there with ya...Maybe sometime if I can get out of the office long enough I can join up with ya even if ya want an observer or somethin'..Way to go guys
  18. Yes, I remember and I'm not surprised by what happened in Huron. It just came recently so very fast that I don't think people relize it's gone...I mean a whole colapse... no plankton, no alewife, no salmon...NONE...AND IT'S NOT THE SALMON THAT ATE THEM ALL, nor the fisherman taking them all, and it's not likely to come back. Sure they cut back the stocking program but that was only a small improvement in the bait population. The salmon were introduced back in 1960 as a top of the food chain solution to the nasty alewife dieoffs, 1980's saw a boon in a new top of the food chain, and that was us! I recall back in the 80's and early nineties 300 or more boats trolling in sight of each other at the mouth of the Salmon river...not to mention the thousands of snaggers lining the banks all the way up to Altmar. There still was a lot of salmon during those two decades even with the high catch ratio, every day in the late season, coming into the ladders of the hatchery. THEN, a fast decline in the bait and consequently a decline in salmon in the mid nineties....WHY?...zebra mussels cleaning the plankton out that the alewife eats..so they died mostly of starvation before the salmon could eat them. The Zebras are a shallow water dweller and affected the near coastal waters effectively cleaning the water in the shallower column where the photoplankton blooms. The alewife now have a competition for food greater than themselves...In Huron however there has been a proliferation of a new mussel..a deep dweller..unnoticed for the most part doing more damage to the deeper water columns.. The Quagga teams with the Zebra to more effectively clean out all the plankton and there fore creates the total colapse of the food chain necessary to support the salmon...In a nutshell, cutting back the salmon stocking or rearing will not bring the bait back from a situation like that..it is simply a matter of the invasive mussels taking the food away from the alewife. My observation lately about the changes that are going on with the salmon habits in Ontario are reminiscent of more hunting than fishing. Has anyone ever noticed that the bite is only good for about a two hour spell early in the morning and then disapates rapidly with no bait and no marks suddenly. It's my guess that the salmon are in more shallow in low light looking for food and it's not alewife...it's maybe perch or bass or some other opportunity until the sun comes up and drives them off deeper. It used to be that you could bet on the salmon and the bait being out there all the time in the same place day after day. Now it seems the salmon are more nomadic in their feeding habits...and thats all they do is look for food during their life so they will go where it is nessesary to find a meal. I also remember getting on top of a bait school for a hundred feet or more back a few years but now if you got a bait ball the lenght of your boat.. thats a good one. Just remember the alewife was here from ballast dumpers FIRST and then for thirty years the salmon were feasting on them and not putting a huge pressure on them but then came the Zebras and now the Quaggas and between all three (salmon being the least) the forage base is getting smaller at an alarming rate in my observation..and I've been fishing the lake religiously since 1986 as my school of hard knocks. Maybe I'm wrong and I hope there isn't something bad going to happen, but it already has in Lake Huron...and thats sad and for real.. Mark
  19. http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=767291 I was in Cabelas Richfield, Wi. shopping and spoke at length about fishing Lake Michigan with one of the outfitters there. He mentioned that fishing Michigan was pretty good but for how long?...His reference to Lake Huron and the resulting collapse of the fishery there was astonishing, so I did a little reseach and found a few articles on the subject...see above link..Needless to say I was shocked to hear the number of charter's going bankrupt in short order. It is hard to believe that a once excellent fishery is now totally GONE in Lake Huron in a matter of just a few years It came as a surprise to the DNR and their scientists...it seems it all slipped in the back door and never was relized the potential destruction of a huge body of water in a blink of an eye... We as fishermen on the big O can attest to the lesser amounts of bait showing up on the screen and the smaller the salmon have become over the most recent years. All you need to do is look at the archives of the derby winners and see the declining weights each and every year. There are no more 40lb salmon winning these derbys anymore. The invasive species are ruining the lake already in my opinion.. I don't want to say the sky is falling but maybe we should take account of all things in general and hope there comes a solution before it is GONE like in Huron....So when you see the DEC/DNR people doing a fishing survey in the tribs near your port...please don't avoid talking to them and make your concerns known, they are there for the research on the fish population and monitor the effects of exotic species and disease on our gamefish. Our governments need to be involved here in the USA and Canada to find a solution or this industry that brings billions of $ each year to the economy of this vast area might be gone faster than you can say SCAT! 20. you'll need a new credit card..it's only the beginning
  21. very nice fish, did you fish north end? trolling or casting, what did they come on?...I have only ice fished there but thought about trying the soft water
  22. Nice job...looks like the fly season is starting up...nice pics
  23. I always use 17lb trilene xl green until the fleas got on it..but still use it for leader material, I like the stretch factor for the dipseys there for not useing a snubber. It always has performed well even at the end of a wire rig.
  24. ok, just checking,(spammers)your not... yes it is a stupid problem.....human nature...rules of the road comes down to knowing them, and having the sense and courtesy to use them no matter where you are...I drive cross country for a living, the nations highways are no exception....if it's got a steering wheel it's bound to have a certain level of ignorance attached to it....and that is affected by regions,...being that you indicate NJ as an example, you probably know how to exercise a lot of tollerance for regional afflictions. ok....tollerate, definition of ignoring the ignorant and have a nice day....unless they cost you tackle , and harm then...call your lawyer and or insurance broker..you know...feed the pig. now go fishing and lets hear your reports..good luck Mark
