  1. Depends Stan , if you are running shallow baits near shore for shore hugin fish, I run them off one side, the shore side of course and keep the boat away from the baits....less hassle to deal with two boards in the water at the same time. However, if you want to spread out away from shore I run them off both sides too cover the most water in one sweep and keep baits away from the scary boat. We so far can only use two rods here per licensed person as well. Don't tell Ray that he might have to flip the bill for licenses on his two blowup fishermen though...That would be highly deflating to his fishing budget
  2. A very eye opening article! As far as I'm concerned...E-85 sucks big time! I run a C-15 caterpillar diesel 180,000 miles a year and I know that soy bean fuel is no good either. So far has cost me a load from downtime due to the gelling effect at below zero temps at only 15% blend with ultra low sulfur diesel #2. NO, additives don't help with that problem. It is also more expensive to buy. I had a $600 fuel injector replacement most likely due to the blend according to CAT. 475 horsepower goes down to about the level of an old 238 detroit everytime I get the stuff. I avoid it like the plague now. SAVE THE SOY FOR THE TOFU EATERS and keep the water in the lakes for the fish and us humans. I don't know...can we drink the stuff like white lightnin
  3. I have the Fishtrap Yukon and it is a very nice size for two. A bit heavy with all my equipment including a jiffypower auger and heater, trapping basket, fish finder, minow pail, and various other gadgets...but I can pull it out on the ice through a foot of snow by myself. I use a 2x 6 board for sliding it up on the pickup bed. Wind will not blow it away. sets up in less than 30 seconds and your in... very sturdy and you can stand up in it. I am 6' 3' and have no problem moving around in it and getting through the door. It also can be joined with another Yukon with a vestible making it even larger or for a four man outing. Price is good for what it is ...and that is top quality. BE SURE TO GET A TRAVEL COVER FOR IT SO YOU CAN KEEP IT CLEAN WHILE TRAVELING...elastic band keeps it secure and all the snow and road gook out. Mark
  4. Only reason fer the heater was Ray's fishin' suit (buffy) got a bald spot on it. Prolly from the bear den incident, gotta keep that area warm now.
  5. Nice pics guys I saved that one of you guys in the river with the steam for a desk top wallpaper.. GREAT job!!
  6. Perfect videos Rich Is that the Salmon river above county 48? Looks cold but fun! Great job Dominick Keep fishin with your dad, and you guys will always have a fishing buddy in each other! Mark
  7. Thanks for the reply yankee clipper, I am still keeping it on the list for like you say, a entry level unit. Mainly the price is attractive and I like the preprogrammed fishing patterns option as well. I was looking at a Garmin TR-1 Gadiator and the Gold edition autos, but the price is out of my budget right now. They also have the fishing patterns as well as another good feature of the man overboard feature that performs a williamson manuever to pickup a man in the drink, (ME)... incase I fall out and have the remote on me. It would be nice to see the boat turn around and pick me up instead of motoring off to a new home in Canada. The price for the gladiator is about $3200 and the gold version works on just the kicker motor and it is still about $2400. I think I will try the Raymarine for the cost and the fishing pattern features. It only has to troll my 22ft at around 2.4 to 3 mph anyway and if I go slower I'll get too many mud chickens...I use them as a last resort to keep from getting skunked If anybody else has some input on the S1000 please post here and I will look at the considerations..Thanks all for the help, It so far doesn't sound too bad in operation for the cost layout. Mark
  8. He might make it out there after the federalies have their way with him at the Panama Canal. Stock up on Dos Equis..don't try to bring that Milwaukee's Best down there
  9. Thanks for the replies. I was wondering about the gps track update feature, and I would imagine that a fast update time would be better than a longer one for holding a true course. The Raymarine was nicely priced, but I want to make sure before going out to spend upwards of $1000. I fish alone alot and having the autopilot would be real nice ONLY if it works right. I'll look at the features of the simrad. Anybody seen a good price on a model?
  10. Anybody have expierience with this model? I'm looking at it but have heard a few comments on it that it doesn't work well below 3mph. Thanks Mark
  11. http://www.ezsteer.com/ You can steer your kicker with an EZ steer bar. If you have an autopilot, and you have hydraulic steering you should have no problem steering from the main engine even with the main engine off. Check the site above and I'm sure you can find a bar that will work for your boat. These steering arms are very versitile and easy to set up, if you have a question you can give them a call and they will help you with any questions or installations. Mark
  12. Chris goes head to head with Mr. king of the salmon over 500fow on the last day of the derby. Here is 10 minutes of a 30 minute struggle. Mark
  13. Chris and the "skipper" aka Mark or dad go nuts with steelhead at the end of the derby and then put "Ain't Skier'd" up on plain and hammer down for port weigh in. At the end of the derby, Chris goes home with a fish of the day and a steelhead on the board for $... Mark
  14. Nice "BARE" man! Loved the story too! Was he HARD to git? How far out didja hafta troll the table scraps? You da Man, very strong too! Bear was comin' right to ya from downwind I'll bet. Did ya use "brutus" by Fabriqe' But seriously, a very nice looking bear Ray, congrats to a good shot with the smoke pole
  15. Power pro braid....sooo thin and strong too. Want to feel every shake and shimmer of the fight? This is it! That is until the fleas come out.. Knot integrity is crucial though as it slips easily if not tied with care. clinch knots will slip 90% of the time. I use a uni knot at the terminal end and an albright to do any splice to flourocarbon http://www.animatedknots.com/uniknot/in ... dknots.com UNI-Knot http://www.animatedknots.com/albright/i ... dknots.com Albright knot
  16. Day two aboard "Ain't skier'd" of the Labor day weekend, LOC derby, Chris ties into a nice steelhead and puts himself on the board with 13lb 15oz....Then a bat comes out to fish with us and just doesn't want to fly the 2 miles back to shore.
  17. Part one of some of the action out of Point Breeze this past Labor day weekend...Chris gets his arms full of a king and looks like he's playin a fish guitar at the end.
  18. They are both bare, but I know Ray has the most beer, but then maybe the one on the bottom has the best and obviously the COLDEST beer. Hmmmm... depends on which bare will share the beer
  19. I agree with the crocs untill the biting flies find the little holes in the top and chew on yer feet. Then yer feet got those little red marks that match up with the holes in the crocs...These frog feet things would probably stop that...wonder if they make good ice fishin shoes...or maybe good surf caster footwear fer wading in the rough shells after yer feet have gotten burnt to a crisp from no shoes and the sun.
  20. Number 100 for me...that I agree!
  21. Environmental impact :?: ...What did the trout eat too many mosquitos or something :?: ....Hope the darn skeeters go to bite all the Stanford U fruits with their infected probiscus
  22. This is something that goes on all over....as a rig driver, I have had things thrown from bridges and up onto highways from below culverts, ditches etc., got a golden shower down in San Francisco off a bridge  (sorry Stan) ...... Shot at!!!! fortunately only a BB gun a couple of times in the windshield... One particular scare was a piece of pipe about 2 in in diameter, hanging from a bridge on a rope. It just missed my windshield and ricocheted off the top of the cab and went thru the bulkhead of the van trailer I was hauling...I witness all kinds of debris along the interstates during the halloween season...mostly pumkins dropped down...during the strikes of 1980's I carried the ought 6 Remingon 742... 10 round clip stuffed with armour piercing projectiles just in case of these idiots tryin' to shoot out MY windshield or drop stuff like that.
  23. Thanks for protecting our freedoms vets :!: Your service to our country is celebrated and respected today...go forward and be proud... Mark
