  1. Alright boys, I am out of this thread. As I said after the 2017 high water, this one will require someone or group suing in a court system to fix this one. As enlightening as this banter has been, I am not sure it will serve any purpose. Pray for lower water levels and for the sanity to return to the IJC.
  2. Good thing you are on higher ground.
  3. You keep using the term “we” in referencing water outflows. For the benefit of full disclosure, are you part of the IJC board?
  4. Right, high flows blowing out thru the gates due to high water conditions ABOVE and BELOW the dam. The high conditions above the dam due to changes in regulations- this is what is broken. The timing of the water release. The Moses Saunders Dam could have held back water and potentially lessened flooding in Montreal and create an opportunity for Ottawa water control measures to release more water into the St Lawrence and lessen their flooding. The draw down on Ontario that didn’t happen per usual created zero wiggle room for water level managers to reduce the effect of the 100 year flooding occurring in 2017 and ‘19. I don’t understand the thinking of the IJC agreement. If we are to believe in global warming is raising sea levels, there will be growing resistance to water leaving the St Lawrence estuary. Montreal flooding will continue to be a problem. The draw down of Lake Ontario in the fall needs to be increased to aid flooding mitigation in the spring not decreased.
  5. Here is what some other Canadians think. https://www.google.com/amp/s/ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/protesters-blame-new-great-lakes-plan-for-floods-on-lake-ontario-ottawa-river/amp Jimski, please don’t comment.
  6. Didn’t the Ottawa River flood because there was resistance from high water and ice on the St Lawrence?
  7. Correct HB2. All reservoirs are drawn down in late fall in preparation for coming spring/winter melt. Preemptive. Smart. Easier to adjust shipping timing than move houses to higher ground.
  8. Wouldn’t that have caused Ottawa to be flooded for three years?
  9. Ok....then why is NYS suing ??
  10. So far an easy winter (jinx, anti-jinx, no jinxy take-backs). I wish the DEC would decide on king cuts at a spring time deadline to see how mild/harsh the winter before deciding.
  11. When I used to run long coppers, I set them in roller releases on a fixed loop present 10’ from my otter boat planers. The roller releases have the benefit of showing small fish to prevent dragging shakers by setting the drag light on the reel. Also, on turns you can prevent hitting bottom by pre-letting out additional backing before the turn and then reel in copper during the turn to speed it up- keeping it from sinking. Now a days if I want to fish deep out wide, I can attach a dipsy to roller release, send the board out and then send dipsy back. A double keel otter can even tow a mag dipsy.
  12. In my lifetime I would like to see the Black River dam removed on Ontario and the Scoby Dam removed on the Catt.
  13. I think this was probably ten years ago and they were looking at the western zones if memory serves. Thanks for update and for all Canadian volunteers lifting salmon into headwaters! We all benefit from your sore backs.
  14. When did you crack a funny??
  15. Lucky, I think Rick was asking for Salmon River closure tongue-in-cheek as a jab at the trib guys that worked so diligently behind the scenes to change the lake creel-limit for steelhead all the while claiming “I didn’t do it”. Expect sarcasm in coming year from many lake anglers regarding tributary issues.
  16. HBC, Randy Scott and others on the FMZ council had asked me my opinion a numbers of years back regarding ideas/recommendations to the OMNR for managing the fishery given current conditions. At play was reduced return rates of kings on the north shore and the negative effect on the charter fleet. My advise then was based on the stocking number discrepancy US vs Canadian side. If Canadians were ever going to see an increase in salmon, it better come from natural recruitment, therefore, salmon run protection measures needed to be put in place. When were the stream protections put in place? It is nice to have a working model to mimic.
  17. Eh, Pulaski relies on the googan brigade of salmon snatchers to keep businesses open. Also, Salmon eggs are not going to eye-up until the river water temp gets into the 50’s. Let the river continue to be the place where future Great Lakes fishermen/ women are born. They have to start somewhere. With global warming, September-October runs are not going to have viable offspring produced. Catch and release-only after Nov 1st.
  18. Ok, you are forgiven.
  19. How old do you think he was now that you got to examine him in person?
  20. Some classics in there.
  21. Merry Christmas all!
  22. Water is coming down Welland Canal.
  23. Smelt are an invasive species. You could not make a dent in bait population via stocking alewives or smelt. If conditions are right, they will re-populate themselves. We have a boom and bust smelt population on Erie. Some years tons, some years none. I think there are periodic wanderings from Michigan + Huron that end up in Erie. We do get occasional Kings caught on Erie as proof of wandering.
  24. Anyone have a fix on where I can get a hold on some black NBK spoon tape? Thanks.
  25. I could walk to work but why not take my car?
