  1. Anyone know what the DEC is researching in Mexico Bay? Around Catfish Creek from the outer limits of the Nine Mile buoys due north to approx 100fow, there is a line of buoy's with orange flags. The buoy's are labeled DEC Research. Any ideas?
  2. Sounds like a challenge to me! The guy I'm bringing up tomorrow fished the spring LOC and Mike's LSR Challenge with me. He's hooked on Lake O fishing! He's been following the reports on here; trying to convince him to just join LOU. He's seen the weights coming in from Oswego & the Bay and is chomping at the bit to get up there this weekend. Just hope the kings stick around for him and we can get a good presentation going. We won't be up until probably 9pm or so tomorrow night (we both have to work), but hope to be on the water bright and early Saturday morning. Will you be up? If so, I'll try getting in touch with you on 78.
  3. Nice. Now I know what to use my LSR Challenge gift certificate for at Jon's.
  4. Thanks, Shawn!!
  5. I'm going to say 42lbs 9 ounces, caught by an LOU Member, in Mexico Bay, weighed in at Woody's or Lighthouse Marina. Yes, may be a bit high on the weight, but we're already seeing 38lb'ers and the Derby doesn't end until Labor Day. Still lots of time for bigger ones to show up. Keeping my fingers crossed that Mother Nature cooperates with us and allows us all to experience some monster kings!
  6. I've had my 22' Islander since 2005 and love it. I only trailer it long distances 2x a year (once to the lakehouse, once back home to PA). Overall, I think it's a great boat. I've had it in 5 footers before and never felt unsafe or felt we'd never make it back.
  7. With what is showing up in the eastern end right now, it's definitely going to be BIG!!! It'd be nice if the winner was an LOU member, too!
  8. What do the DW Shiznit and the NK Seasick Waddler look like? I don't see them listed on either website.
  9. Nice report & congrats on the monster king!
  10. Beautiful fish! How deep were you and how far down was the fly?
  11. Good information to have. Thanks for the heads-up.
  12. I got stuck out on the lake once without my kicker. Never again!!!
  13. I agree the 15K is high. It is a nice ride, though. Sure someone will give it a nice home. I love my Islander, as well. I bought my 2000 221 in 2005 for 15k. That was worth it!
  14. Nice job! Congrats to you both, Brian and Marlene!!
  15. While online looking at fishing gear, I came across this Islander 221V. Would make a nice fishing machine for someone! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1992-Starcraft-Islander-221V-/140436316060?pt=Other_Boats
  16. I run the 8'6" Eagle Claws for my downrigger rods and absolutely LOVE them. Never thought of using them for copper. Hmmm, got me thinking now.....
  17. I think most of the boats out of Mexico Bay monitor 78. There was a time, probably a year or so ago, that we, the LOU community, wanted to get a lake-wide LOU channel we could all use to talk to each other no matter what port we were from. At the time, I think we chose 14, but it was soon found out that 14 was a special USCG channel or something like that and we couldn't use it. I think it'd still be a nice idea if we could find a channel we could all use as a group.
  18. Nice fish! Looks like they are FINALLY starting to show up!!!
  19. I got (2) Penn 345GTi reels spooled with 600' of copper from A-TOM-MIK and love them! I'm not sure of the ratio of feet out to depth, but if you go to A-TOM-MIK's website, in the reel description section, he shows what certain amounts out will get you down to. If I remember correctly, 600' will get you down to approximately 120' at a 2.5mph troll. For rods, I am using a Shimano Talora and a Daiwa Heartland. Both work really well.
  20. I was thinking that, as well. It was replaced at the end of last year before I put everything away for the winter. But, it's been getting used A LOT more this year, so maybe it is on its way out. I'll give a new battery a try and hopefully that fixes it. Thanks for the tip, Tim!
  21. I was going to post a similar question to this one. My Sub-Troll has been acting up this season a lot. Works fine, then the display goes haywire, shows an unrealistic temperature, speed needle goes to "0", temp jumps all over the place...then it returns to acting normally. Has anyone had any problems with the actual connection on the backl of the display unit where the RCA cable plugs in? Seems that sometimes when I wiggle or move the cable, the display sometimes starts working fine. I also have some bare spots on my cable and was thinking that may be the culprit, but apparently it may be something else. This weird activity happens at any depth. Any other thoughts?
  22. Nice job! We ran west to Sodus Saturday morning to try something different after we didn't do well in Mexico Bay. Hope those kings start moving east soon!
  23. I wanted to take a minute and thank everyone involved in the Mike's Marina Little Salmon River Challenge. I have been wanting to participate in it since last year, but haven't been able to since yesterday. What an incredible event!! This is an excellent example of a family-oriented fishing tournament that gives back to the participants, as well as the area. My fishing partner for this, as well as the Spring LOC, had never experienced a tournament like this before, and he was, also, amazed at how well it was put on. Thank you, again, to all involved in putting on the Challenge. Mike, Beth, Rich, Ron and everyone I missed - you are to be commended! Myself and my team are already excited for next year's Challenge!!
