  1. Hey gang, Here's two nice pics of a buck on my trailcam behind my house (the time/date are correct, the location is not). Lots of bucks this year - I wish I would have saved my archery tag for this guy! Happy hunting - good luck to all, - Chris
  2. Greg, Congratulations to you guys, but most importantly WAY TO GO with your efforts to push and find him. I can't tell you how many times I've found deer from other hunters who simply have not taken the time "after the shot" to look.....It shows great sportsmanship that you both possess! Thanks for sharing!!!! - Chris
  3. Here's a link: http://www.joesfarmersplace.com/index.html - Chris
  4. Ray, Good post - it's required by law to have a CO detector (Amanda's Law) which went in to effect earlier this year. I realize just b/c it's law doesn't mean everyone will have one, but nonetheless thanks for the reminder. More importantly, thanks for the very vivid reminder to have our furnaces cleaned/inspected! - Chris
  5. Gator, We have been using Larry's for as long as I can remember - we have taken at least 100 deer to him and he has always been great. I just took him my buck this past Monday and he had it ready on Tuesday. You're correct - during gun season it gets a little hectic - but Larry and his wife are still the best around. - Chris
  6. Thanks guys for all of your feedback - I've had quite a few people comment that they're "twin" brothers. I wasn't sure if they still stuck together once they we're 1 1/2 yrs old or older. It's been cool seeing them over the past few days - we'll see what happens next week. Good luck to all - be safe this year, - Chris
  7. Yes I definitely bow hunt - in fact it's a close tie with salmon fishing as my favorite outdoor activity... - Chris
  8. When they come out once it's a coincidence....when they come out two more times it's a pattern.....these two guys showed up once more yesterday and now this morning. Good luck this year to everyone, - Chris
  9. Thanks guys for the feedback, I live in Ontario - Wayne County. I have a 20x optical zoom - the pic with the two bucks is from the back of my house, the pic of the single deer is from my detached workshop which is about 50 feet from the house. I actually crawled through the wet grass and mud on my stomach to get to my workshop so I could get a little closer and so the deer wouldn't see me.....it was fun Thanks for looking and sharing in my pre-season excitement, - Chris
  10. These two guys were hanging around tonight in my backyard about 200' from my deck. They could care less about each other - no sparring - and they hung out for about an hour. I've seen quite a few different bucks on my trailcams behind the house, but these two are new ones I haven't seen yet. Pretty nice G-2's on these bad boys. Time and time again I see nice deer in the worst weather - especially the wind and rain........ Good luck this year to you all, - Chris
  11. Scott, Awesome pics bud - thanks for sharing. That's one really nice deer - and yes the "rat" is a yearling deer. Thanks for sharing - good luck this season (We'll be back at it this year near you gun hunting in Darien so feel free to send a few of those big boys our way...lol) - Chris
  12. Tom B. is correct - Laker season is Jan. 1st through Sept 30th. - Chris
  13. It could be a Lake Whitefish. I'm no expert but I don't know if Cisco can grow to 23". We used to catch Cisco's through the ice on occasion in Michigan and they were smaller. I can't tell from the picture but the Lake Whitefish have a funky "snout" looking thing hanging over the lower jaw near the side of the mouth. If I'm not mistaken the Native Americans on Lake Michigan near Manistee net these suckers...... Cool catch!!!! - Chris
  14. Legitimate gripe but I would not lose sleep over it. That being said, what annoys me even more is when people leave the entire thing blank, but then write one or two sentences which just gives #'s of fish caught without any other "information"........ However, I must say that Chad has made one heckuva fantastic tool and I'm very grateful to all the fishermen/women (especially the very unselfish charter captains) who give very detailed reports day in and day out. Cheers , - Chris
  15. TD, I launch and retireve a 21' Trophy hardtop every year from the I-Bay launch. No problem earlier this spring when the water level was historically at a very low level. You'll be fine, I would use the center ramp if you can... Good luck, - Chris
  16. Thanks for the report(s) Hans, It was a great year to say the least - with some trips approaching 25+ boated fish and fish in and out of the money, it was one of the best years I can remember on the lake. A special thanks to Anthony (Pike Hunter) for some great action - we sure had some great days on the water. We'll be pulling the boat in the next few weeks to get ready for the next season....huntin' Take care, - Chris
  17. Look into an EPIRB or a PLB (Personal locator beacon). I have a FastFind PLB (it was around 300 bucks) which you register with NOAA. I also have a strobe light which I wear on an inflatable life vest which I always wear when I fish alone. I also carry 9 signal flares on my boat and a large signal flag.....and I am not hearing impaired. Good luck, - Chris
  18. WTG!!!!!!! Man, it's great to see the I-Bay boys (and ladies) on the board this year with a big fish or two!!!! Absolutely awesome, - Chris
  19. Wizard, Go back and take a look at the I-Bay/Rochester Area/Braddocks reports at various times of the year. Many excellent fishermen/women fish out of the area and they post reports all of the time. Look up reports under: Longline, Rolmops, Pike Hunter, W.W.IV, Upgrady, Momay4000 (obviously this is me), REELJERKS, KINGME, yukinger, just to name a few of us who regularly post reports. Many of these guys are great fishermen who are always eager to help you out. Good luck, - Chris
  20. Todd, Thanks for the report - this satellite imagery confirms your surface temps of the current near shore upwelling. Did you have a chance to work off-shore at all? http://www.coastwatch.msu.edu/ontario/o2.html Thanks, - Chris
  21. Capt Steve, Thanks for the great report - I fished with Anthony (Pike Hunter) on Saturday and we slid a little further west than I wanted to be......but then again I'm attracted to Braddocks like a magnet based on how well we've done in that area this year.....lol. Thanks for the updates!!! - Chris (yellow Trophy hardtop)
  22. Ray, Bowfin all the way - as Tom mentioned I've also heard them called dogfish. It's not a snakehead - I believe their anal fin is extremely long (almost the entire length of their belly). I've never caught a bowfin but pretty much every year I hear one or two caught near Braddock's Cool pics! - Chris
  23. Fishing Report Chris / Liv n' Ellie: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):8/10/10 Time on Water: 7AM - 1PM Weather/Temp: overcast fog burning off then sun Wind Speed/Direction: W <5 mph Waves: <1 ft Surface Temp: 74 Location: I-Bay to Russell LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): between 32 and 38 W lines =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: great day Total Boated: great day Species Breakdown: all kings Hot Lure: Stinger Glo green alewife, NBK, lemon ice, Seasick waddler Trolling Speed: 2.5-3.1 sog Down Speed: 2.3-2.5 mph Boat Depth: 140'-325' Lure Depth: riggers between 85' and 125'; 600' copper ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== I fished solo today and had a blast. Many fish caught and all released today. Best action was in the 160'-210' range. Lots of bait and the pods were holding nice amounts of fish. Name of the game today was find bait and work it and you caught fish. Fished mainly a two rigger program but I changed up one rigger to 600' copper and had a few hits on the seasick waddler, 600'. Finally caught better quality fish today - two nice 20+ pound kings on the riggers 115' and 125' over 200 fow. Trolling direction seemed to be less of an issue today. Around high noon, the fishing slowed so I packed it in around 1 PM. Seemed like most guys were off shore, but I had the inside water to myself and it held good fish. Down temp. was set up very nice today - I had 48 deg. water down about 115'. The thermocline was very tight and narrow, it seemed like only about ten foot wide or so, but most marks on the graph were "in it" down about 100'. Good luck to all, - Chris
  24. Fishing Report Chris/ Liv n' Ellie: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):8/7 and 8/9 Time on Water: 6-10 AM; 6AM-3PM Weather/Temp: sunny/warm/some rain Wind Speed/Direction: SW 5 mph Waves: 1-2 Surface Temp: 73 Location: Braddocks to Shipbuilders LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 8;7 Total Boated:5;6 Species Breakdown: kings, steelhead Hot Lure: NBK; Seasick waddler Trolling Speed: 2.5-3.4 sog Down Speed: consistent 2.5 mph Boat Depth: 140' to 400' Lure Depth: riggers 85-135' with sliders; wire 225' to 345'; copper 300'-600' ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Things have slowed down a bit both in quantity and quality. We fished it hard over the past few days - the best speed was 2.5 mph at the ball and the best trolling direction was into the waves - period. We covered a lot of water and 180-220' seemed to be the best today. Lots of marks and bait pods out there. Temp. seemed most stable around 200 fow and deeper. Best lures were seasick waddler both off the copper (500';600') and off the riggers. Other lures that took fish were Crazy B***H fly/flasher off the wire (240' #3), gator spinny/hammer fly, green spinny/green crinkle fly off the wire (345' #3), dirty white boy free slider, Capt. valium flasher/fly, NK 42 sec. mag, habenero, DW SS Get r'dun gold, and lemon ice. We had a few more hits on some other things but I can't remember exact details. All in all, lots of fun.... Good luck to all, - Chris
