  2. Calypso : Fishing Report ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== 7-11-09 Time on Water: (6:00 AM – 11:00 aM) Temp/Weather: (85°F and sunny, overcast, rain, snow) Wind Speed/Direction: (NW at 8 MPH) Waves: (1-2 Footers, Calm) Surface Temp: (72°F) Location: (fishing location) LAT/LONG: (GPS Cords) =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: (0, 5 10, etc.) Total Boated: (0, 5, 10, etc.) Species Breakdown: (3 Kings, 2 Bows, 1 Brown, 5 Lake Trout) Hot Lure: (NK28, White Spindoctor with Green A-TOM-MIC Fly) Trolling Speed: (2.1 mph) Down Speed: (1.8 mph) Boat Depth: (200 ft) Lure Depth: (80 ft) ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Fleas realy really suck. They where wadded up in the probe antenna today. Went 7 for 9 this morning. Caught 4 kings, biggest 24 lbs, father in law caught that one, he's sitting in 13th (for now). One laker and two steelhead. The steelies both hit a lemon ice stinger, and it also got knocked off once. The laker and two salmon came off the new salted cut bait with a froggy green head. The cut bait doesnt fit in the heads very well though. and the fleas really really suck. We had a few fish on the wire and had to keep whipping and shaking to get the fleas off so we could get it in. The other two salmon came off wire/spinny/fly. Best depth we could find was 140-160, east troll was good for us today, and with the waves acting up a little we went east for a majority of the trip. We did not mark hardly anything after about 100fow but we were hitting some fish. Only 2 of us so only 4 poles limits what you can throw at them. I would have liked to try a few other presentations. Hopefully get another try tomorrow morning. (add pictures and any other details not captured above here)
  3. Saturday 7/11 My father in law caught 24.01 king. 145 fow - atomik on a spinny, 240 out on a dipsey
  4. New Jersey doesn't have fishing licenses. Here's what I did. Go to a local bait shop and buy a 30 dollar surf combo and these wire hook rigs and some 4 oz lead sinkers, and buy some fish that you cut up for bait and they say cut into cubes and you;ll catch blues and stuff but I cut it right in half, put each half of the bait fish on a hook,. Then wade out to as far as your comfortable with, (waist deep) and cast and leave the bail open , run to shore, tighten the line and wait. you'll catch sand sharks and tey are a blast to reel in. strong as hell. Best time is right before dark or during the night. We caught a couple around 40 pounds. They only come around near or after dark though. I also bought a plastic tube that you stick in the ground as a rod holder.
  5. Awesome job gus. The waves sucked today. Good job catching some nice fish.
  6. I think the missed fish thing is going around right now. I lost one Friday and still can't get it out of my mind. i'm sure the pain will ease someday.
  7. I know EXACTLY how you feel. Everybody does at some point. Good report.
  8. (Your Name) : Fishing Report ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): (6-26 Time on Water: (6:00 AM – 12:00 PM) Temp/Weather: (85°F and sunny, overcast, rain, snow) Wind Speed/Direction: (NW at 8 MPH) Waves: (1-2 Footers, Calm) Surface Temp: (72°F) Location: (fishing location) LAT/LONG: (GPS Cords) =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: (0, 5 10, etc.) Total Boated: (0, 5, 10, etc.) Species Breakdown: (3 Kings, 2 Bows, 1 Brown, 5 Lake Trout) Hot Lure: (NK28, White Spindoctor with Green A-TOM-MIC Fly) Trolling Speed: (2.1 mph) Down Speed: (1.8 mph) Boat Depth: (200 ft) Lure Depth: (80 ft) ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Fished with my son and father in law. Boated a steelhead and 3 kings, biggest 21 lbs. fished between 130 - 170 fow, there was a scumline with lost of wood and trash and stuff and we just zig zagged it for a few hours. still dont have speed and temp back so just guessed again by looking at the bend in the dipseys. Also lost one thats gonna give me bad dreams for a while. a long while. It has my favorite homemade spinny / fly color combo. So we stopped at captains cove and weighed the bigger fish, knowing it's not gonna last but the boy wanted to get it weighed so we did. We also bought replacepement hardware for the loss today ... as my friend calls it derby damage.
  9. The dipsey fish was 220' out on the farthest away from the boat setting. over 160 fow. green spinny, green fly. The rigger fish was 52' down over 140. stinger kevorkian. the others we caught were scattered between 90' and 170' we mostly did north - south trolls all morning trying to find anything consistant. All our fish were an hour apart, not really any fasy action. It was cool at that meeting thing last night seeing a lot of the faces I see on this iste. Pretty sure I saw gambler, yankee troller, chromeslayer, and a few others.
  10. (Your Name) : Fishing Report ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): (fishing date here) Time on Water: (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM) Temp/Weather: (85°F and sunny, overcast, rain, snow) Wind Speed/Direction: (NW at 8 MPH) Waves: (1-2 Footers, Calm) Surface Temp: (72°F) Location: (fishing location) LAT/LONG: (GPS Cords) =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: (0, 5 10, etc.) Total Boated: (0, 5, 10, etc.) Species Breakdown: (3 Kings, 2 Bows, 1 Brown, 5 Lake Trout) Hot Lure: (NK28, White Spindoctor with Green A-TOM-MIC Fly) Trolling Speed: (2.1 mph) Down Speed: (1.8 mph) Boat Depth: (200 ft) Lure Depth: (80 ft) ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== toook my buddy and my father in law. we entered the one day friday derby at the oak. So off we go, cruising along, and my hat blew off (lucky sabres hat) out in the middle of the lake, so we turn around and cant find it.... off we go again. found it 1/2 hr later stuck in the rocket launcher. Then a little later we are ready to set up and the down temp doesn't give any speed, just says zero miles per hour. its a canon, and all the other things work, little wheel is spinning, just doesnt work. So we just guess on speed by looking at rods. 630 am - all set up, 6 rods in water, dipsey goes off, 20 lb king in the boat...... then we got a 9 lb king andout 7:30.. then about 10:30 my buddy catches a 22 lb er on a spoon of the rigger...the fish hit and ran straight at the boat and right past and was out in fron of the boat. never saw that before. then later another small salmon and a laker and dropped a smaller one...... we got second in the little derby and second biggest fish, and won some bucks, and had a great time doing it... now i just gotta fix the probe...
  11. Hi Joe, thanks again and again for the good deal on the boat. As you can probably guess I have gotten my money's worth out of it. I replaced the carpet yesterday, and put a homemade rocket launcher on it this spring, and changed the name to Calypso. The boat has been perfect in every way (knock on wood), runs like a champ, catches fish, easy to tow, doesn't leak. I better stop before I jinx myself. Only problem is I have never caught a lake trout yet. I see your truck at the sandy launch a lot on my way to work in the morning a lot, I think I need to talk to my boss to let me go fishing more often. And I bought 20 lb seaguar red label fluoro for leader material yesterday... Gotta get rid of the vanish I guess.
  12. Is there a one day derby this friday? any information?
  13. mountain goat : Fishing Report ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): (6-7-09Time on Water: (8:00 AM – 11am Temp/Weather: (85°F and sunny, overcast, rain, snow) Wind Speed/Direction: (NW at 8 MPH) Waves: (1-2 Footers, Calm) Surface Temp: (72°F) Location: (fishing location) LAT/LONG: (GPS Cords) =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: (0, 5 .) Total Boated: (0, 5, 10, etc.) Species Breakdown: (3 Kings, 2 Bows, 1 Brown, 5 Lake Trout) Hot Lure: (NK28, White Spindoctor with Green A-TOM-MIC Fly) Trolling Speed: (2.1 mph) Down Speed: (1.8 mph) Boat Depth: (200 ft) Lure Depth: (80 ft) ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== caught some decent fish ast the oak sunday. had to keep a bigger one (22lbs) because it swallowed the fly so deep that its gills were ripped up and the thing was gushing blood on the deck of the boat. other than that I let my friend keep his first two fish ever from lake ontario, both dinks,we cooked them on the grill. They were small but he was really excited to keep them and they went pretty good with a couple beers later in the afternoon. Also had one breakoff on a big fish which really pzzed me off. I think the drag was too tight, it was a spoon hit and my spoon rods have 17 lb vanish on them for leader, and ts only my second time fishing the salmon gear so i likely had a drag set too tight, and handed the rod to a newbie, and it screamed for about 200 feet and broke at the knot on the leader. I was hoping to go all year without a breakoff. sorry in advance, a few swear words in the video clip.
  14. Kind of sucks nobody posted any reports. I am heading there Friday for a family camping trip.
  15. Fished out of wilson, only went to for 3 on small salmon. one on a fly, one on a glow frog spoon... I gotta learn how to catch lakers...
  16. I thought I would try one and I thought if i bought a long one I could let out the amount I wanted and be good to go. The rod will go up high, I already planned on that. I just didnt know if copper would get damaged by pad style releases.
  17. Here's a question... What if you have a 600' setup and you want to run say only 400' but off an otter boat? Can you attach the release pad to the copper?
  18. I rig mine the way the instructions say, but it looks kind of abusive to the cable. I saw last year in a post where someone on here made a piece and had pics to explain what they did. I always meant to rig mine the same but haven't yet.
  19. I have been stopping there every other morning on my way to work, and I do a U-turn on the east side to shine my headlights to the archibald side.... Thanks for saving me a trip in the morning......... I was gonna hit Golden Hill if the docks weren't in yet... Thanks again. Jim
  20. Ande 30lb clear for summer fishing for main line, 17 lb vanish leader. 10 or 12 lb walmart line for spring browns (pinnacle, berkley, etc)
  21. Who needs the guy to hand you a ticket when you get onto the thruway! I can't believe NY would pay a person to hand a ticket to a person. My daughter told me once she wants that job cuz it looks easy..... It's the most pathetic waste of money i have ever seen in my life. Sorry if your that guy.
  22. I would stay at lakeside, I don't even think it's 4 miles from the parkway entrance to the Archibald rd launch on the west side of the river. Plenty of parking, 4 launches, hardly ever a wait, it's six bucks to launch in the summer but I think if you camp at the state park you launch for free, not sure though. Or if Captains Cove has the little motel rooms and the have a launch and docking, you just have to putt down the river a ways (prolly 1/2 mile) to get into the lake.
  23. Name: Jimmy Starr Boat name: Calypso Boat name Origin: I let my son name it. We were at Disney and he said if we ever buy a boat he wants to name it Calypso (it was the name on our hotel).
