  1. I hope the marina actually confirmed it was a bad gimbal bearing and not something else. It very well might have been a bad gimbal bearing, AND something else. I use Spicer's in Clayton, and they are real good about diagnosing the problem, then calling and/or emailing me with a detailed diagnosis and the recommended repair before they start working on it.
  2. Thanks for the report, great job! It's good to see the fishing picking up on our end of the lake for a change.
  3. There is no view of the lake from the boat launch. You have to navigate a 6ft deep creek as it meanders through a marshy area, then past the lake front. a half mile out is when the white caps became visible. The ride wasn't unbearable. but it was nowhere close to the weather prediction by NOAA or the weather channel for the area. It's not very often that I have to use my windshield wiper when it's NOT raining, but I had to that day. The OP's complaint is that the forecast for our end of the lake usually isn't even close to what is predicted, and he is right. If we double the wave forecast we would only be a little closer than what the forecast calls for.
  4. I forgot to mention the 5-10 mph wind forecast, and there were white caps everywhere.
  5. The forecast this past Tuesday for the upper east end was 1ft or less. However, when I hit the lake from Stony Creek at 6:30am I was greeted by some nasty choppy 2-4ft waves, with waves occasionally crashing over my bow. I crawled out to the "finger" at a blistering 6-8 mph. It was too rough to use my kicker motor until after 12:00 when the lake finally calmed down to 1-2ft. We didn't get to a suitable fishing depth until about 8:30.
  6. Call his phone. He's probably not on the forum that much.
  7. I heard the bite was good in the morning, but it died off around 8 or 9am and never picked back up. That's just from one report I heard. Someone else might have some other feedback.
  8. Are these 3.5" or 4.5" long? Where are you located? Is there any rust on the hooks or rings? Thanks.
  9. Thanks for the new ideas and feedback! The cooler idea sounds like the best way to keep the sun from heating up the tank.
  10. I'll look at my rocket launcher tomorrow to see if there might be a way to mount these reels on the lower back arm. How wide is that mounting plate between the wheel and the knob?
  11. No problem. It's been a crazy year for boat launches and marina's with all this high water.
  12. This was the Stony Creek launch on July 9th, but we've had a bunch of rain since then too.
  13. Cannon Uni-Troll HP Downrigger Just in case you have a set of these laying around, or a set that you still use, the rate of retrieval is 1.5 to 1. That translates to 1.5ft of cable reeled in per 1 full turn of the reel. I have a set of these and I called Cannon about it because I couldn't find that information anywhere on the internet. So, now it's on the internet, which makes it official
  14. Pap, I ordered a new fuel line kit that has some sort of pressure regulator on it to keep the tank from sending too much fuel to the motor and flooding the motor out. I didn't even know that could happen. I know these external fuel tanks can really swell up with pressure in the heat. They do it sitting in my garage, without being in the sun. It's tempting to build a wooden cover, paint it white, to put over the tank. If I used the boat more often I might try to do something more permanent with the tank.
  15. They were real bad yesterday in Chaumont Bay too, and I was only fishing 30-40 FOW.
  16. Thanks for the replies everyone. I went out this afternoon with my 3 gallon tank and I used a ratchet strap with a 1/4" thick piece of rubber stall mat between the tank and the ratchet mechanism. It worked better than I thought it would. I considered a wooden 2x4 frame to help keep the tank more secure, kind of similar to angle or an L bracket. I only use this boat for trolling about once a month, which is why I'm using my old 1980 Evinrude 7.5. I like the idea of an internal tank but I don't know where I would put it. It's a 2 stroke motor, too. Bungee cords would stretch and "give" too much, based on the fact that even a ratchet strap allows some tiny bit of movement unless I crank it down tight enough to damage the tank. Thanks again for the feedback!
  17. Thanks. Four hours is a bit too far to drive over and see it. Seems like it would be a good addition to my aluminum utility boat.
  18. Need Ideas For Mounting a 6 Gallon Gas Tank I'm looking for suggestions on how to mount a 6 gallon gas tank on my swim platform. It's for my 2-stroke kicker motor. Thanks in advance!
  19. This thread makes me want to hang a plastic banana from my bow rail
  20. Thanks JoeFro! That's quite a selection of knobs.
  21. Wille Planer Reels Question My boat came with two Will planer reels, but they are attached to my rocket launcher a little differently. The left side reel has the tension knob, the right side reel just has a big wing nut. The left reel has two larch plastic washers between the reel and the rocket launcher. The right reel has the same two plastic washers, but one of the washers is between the wing nut and the reel. Other than the wing nut not being original (it works), how should these plastic washers be arranged on these reels? Both on the inside like the left reel, or one inside and one outside like on the right real? Is there another brand of reels that makes parts that will fit these reels? They work "OK", but my OCD kinda wants them assembled correctly, and my other boat projects are done. Thanks in advance for your assistance! Right side reel pics Left side reel pics
