  1. Headed out and checked the screen at 100 a little NW of the creek, had a little bait and activity at the bottom. The wind was still howling when we got out there, so decided to move on out to see if I could see some suspended activity out a little farther without spending a half hour trolling there. At 200 there was a good hook suspended, so decided there was about as good as any to start. Surface temp was 64 degrees and I was looking at 50 degrees down 50, and 45 degrees down 75 with no clear thermocline, just a gradual gradient all the way down. Didn't mark anything else out in 200 so crept back into 125ish the rest of the day. Two riggers cheated with spoons did nothing all day except for a 5lb atlantic that was released without hitting the deck. Wires took 5 lakers, with my new crazy **** SD and fly being the most productive. Largest laker was 20-21lbs, and actually screamed drag and ran 5-6 times - I would have swore it was a king! Nice fish though. Probably should have weighed it in, but made the decision to let her go and keep fishing. Ended the day 7ish for 10ish (lost count). Good to see temps finally starting to improve- maybe the kings will come in closer now?
  2. For those of you that are google-impaired... http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/Fishfinder/Mark5xDSI-en-us.aspx
  3. I was in your shoes about a year ago, except with a SN fish & ski. Here is my thread for your reference http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing-hunting/index.php/topic/28592-decking-replacement-boat-rebuild/ Good luck!
  4. Headed out with my dad, sister and brother in law for some rain or shine fishing... Got out around 6:15, surprisingly about 7 or 8 others out of the state launch at that time. Headed NW and Stopped around 100 to see what the screen looked like - nothing . Next stop 150 - nothing. Around 200 there was a little activity and decided to set up there. With the pending weather coming in I didn't want to get too much farther out with no place to get out of the weather on the boat. Headed East with a diminishing screen, and decided to do a little zig-zagging. started to see some nice marks in around 180 -160 and hooked into a smaller coho that was successfully released. Ended up going 8/11 with a mixed bag of cohos, steelies and lakers. All lakers were taken on 280/300 wires. Cohos liked a custom looking Scott B. pink ladder back/silver spoon. We lost a really nice steelhead about 20 feet behind the boat after a very nice acrobatic show (50 rigger on cheated KOS) Also broke something off... the leader between dipsy and S/D must have had a knick in it. Overall a great morning. Wether was great except for some showers toward the end of the morning.
  5. Thanks for the pics, does your brother have a crabbing business, or did you just go out for fun? Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Posting this as we go into the holiday weekend in the honor of all who have given their lives to preserve this great experiment in self-government. I intensely love this country, and with the same intensity I am aggravated that there is so much apathy toward government by the general public. With the same intensity I want to see the corruption and cancer removed, and so desperately do I want to be proud of my country again. If not for anything else, I want all this for each soldier from the revolutionary war to this moment as vindication of their sacrifice. It's easy to forget that Memorial day is not about BBQ. If you have served, Thank You.
  7. Nice! Very cute little puppy
  8. wow, yeah I bet your arm is feeling it. Are peanuts all you ran, or did you also run spin/glows with no results?
  9. Yeah, we made it out to around 150, but didn't stay long since it seemed like all the marks went away. Maybe that was my issue, also, only having one line in the upper 10' probably hurt as well. We did figure 8s and messed with speed, but my probe batter was shot (that's why they call it shakedown right?) so my speed was GPS dependent - also another potential issue. Either way, thanks for the additional info.
  10. Like Skunk. Started out the morning late - got on the water around 8:30am. Had a two friends of mine on board, one of which has never been out before. Headed northeast first thing out of the mouth, and marked nothing until around 55 FOW. slowed down and found a really well defined thermal break out at ~70 FOW. Water was pretty clear, hard to find any color - maybe it was my new sunglasses! Set up right on the thermal break and saw some really good hooks with bait on the graph - very promising! Started with 5 rods: - Mag Dipsy with mountain dew spinny Crazy B. Fly, out 50, then 80, then 100 - Downrigger with 30 minute spoon changes, natural colors then greens, then purples. Tried the whole water column, tried 10 to 100 ft off the ball. Added free slider. - Downrigger with spoons, then switched to cowbells and spin & glow (white/red, blue/red, chartreuse, blue/white), then switched to Lhur jensens version of the grease trap with splin/glow combos. Then glow frog at the bottom. - Mag Dipsy with various spinny combos, then ran clean spoon. - Flatline down the chute with various sticks, then added 3/4 oz finned weight with leader to get some depth to address hooks at the 1/3 of WC. Did not bring the boards/mast due to trying to keep it simple. I have never worked so hard for so little action! Only other time I have been skunked was the first time I was out on the lake fishing trout/salmon. Packed it in around 2pm. No hits. Either day it was a beautiful day! Any ideas gentlemen?
  11. I run two interstate deep cycles, this is the 4th year and they perform like they did when new. I keep them on maintainers in my unheated shed during the off season. They wired through a selector switch and run the whole boat.
  12. Great report. I don't know what I was doing wrong (not 1 bite), however it was a great day to be out!
  13. Out here now, fish turned off! Throwed everything at them, may get skunked.
  14. Stopped in to Webster Eye Care Today and picked up a pair of Costas - Corbina with the 580G Blue Mirror Lens. Everyone was really friendly. Brad helped me out with trying on about a dozen different configurations. Very helpful to have such a huge selection on site. Ran into Mike on the way out and talked fishing with him for about 20 minutes- great guy to shoot the breeze with. Having evening hours helped out a whole lot since that would have been the last time in a while I could make it out there with my wife (aesthetic consultant) given the current work schedule. Overall very happy with the purchase - a great pair of sunglasses at a very nice price. Would recommend webster eye care to anyone. Thanks Rick
  15. Edit: Got a call back today - everything is good. Rick, do you know based on when you were there if they had the man-o-war in stock? I assume the fisch was there since you bought them. Thanks
