  1. Got out today and fished sodus. We started in about 10 feet of water off of Boulder point. We very quickly realized that it was crystal clear and relatively cool in there. I moved out and slowly switched all of my stuff over to steelhead spoons on top, and then spoons or cowbells down below. It was truly a liquid desert for much of my Northwest troll towards hughes marina. Finally once I got to Hughes in about 110 feet of water I had a couple of steelhead on top, and some Laker action down below. It was a grind today. Warmest water we found was about 48° right off Hughes, it's seemed to get warmer as we went west. We got out to about 250 feet of water today, and focused most of our effort in that 100 to 140 range. The water certainly look better the further west you went as well Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Slooooow for me today. Did a few steelhead and some lake trout off of Hughes. It was a liquid desert from the pier almost to Hughes Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  4. We did a trip out of Sodus this morning. Left the dock at about six, and motored pretty far to the west, as I heard there was a better bite that way. We started and about 7 feet of water off of Boulder point, and headed west from there. The brown bite was pretty slow this morning.... we did manage three fish, all on a flatlined perch stick bait. We did find some decent quality, with Two real nice browns, and one small Coho, with a few more knock offs. Best action was near Hughes. Interestingly, all of my fish came on the outside of turns, Usually in about 20 feet of water, so I worked that pretty hard later in the morning with nothing to show. We slid outside to try to conjure up some lake trout at about 11, but even those weren't cooperating today. I don't think I've ever not caught a lake trout when I was targeting them. Weird. Kinda felt snake bit today, never got into a groove. Back at it next weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  6. My boat is at the dock at krenzers. Honestly didn't check the coast guard launch.... Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. Rick, were you marking those fish? Or did you just happen to catch a few and dial in the program from there? Sounds like it was mostly a down bite right? I had that same green water off of sodus with a pretty abrupt temp change in about 60 fow, but wasn't marking crap and only took a laker off it, so I didn't spend a ton of time there... 8. We took our shakedown run today out of sodus. First, and most importantly, the boat ran perfectly! We spent the first part of the morning between the trailer park and Maxwell, but that water appeared to be beat to death, and we only pulled three small Browns out of it. I got a report that a guy was getting some more action to the east, so we went down there. It was pretty good fishing from East Bay to about a mile east of east bay.... Unfortunately all of the fish were pretty small, except for one maker about 10 pounds. I would say of the 10 or so fish we boated (maybe 15 bites) the biggest was maybe 3 lbs.... There was a much better class of fish to the west, near Pultneyville I hear. Our action was pretty evenly split between small stingers and honeybees on the rigger down 5 back 50, and gold or perch pattern small stick baits back 125-150. I was getting a TON of short hits today... increasing my speed from 2 up to 2.2 seemed to fix that, but very frustrating. Back at it next weekend. 9. Yeah, there is no talk about tax breaks.... Or really any break at all for anyone except the landowners who rent out their property for these monstrosities... Unless you count drastically reduced property value, which I suppose would accomplish the same? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  11. It is probably a good idea to remove the front hook with three hook stick baits. You'll hear a lot of differing opinions on whether or not you should use single hooks vs larger trebles on the back. I'm not entirely sure it makes a big difference. 12. I've had days where a diver on 3 setting out 30 feet has been on fire for Browns in May and early June in the skinny water! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. I have boat insurance and like 10,000 dollars in equipment coverage (which might almost cover it) for around 550 a year I think. No don't know what the deductible is. It is through progressive... Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  15. We went fishing north of 3rd creek Sunday. We set a line of tip ups from 6-21 fow, and then sat jigging in 18-20 fow for perch. Probably ended up with 15-20 perch, but all dinks, almost exclusively coming on spikes. We did manage 2 pike hits, the first coming about 15 down in 20 fow on a Swedish pimple (what a ride with my light perch rod!) that I lost at the hole. Then a bit later we managed this 8 lber on a tip up with a huge chub. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Usually in June the steelhead fishing is pretty good, 100-400 fow depending on the temp break. Can sometimes catch a king down deeper, but that is very hit or miss. Also, browns are usually available in the 20-60 fow range off the points Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  18. I had big plans to fish both days this weekend. With the big blow, I figured temps would be deep, so I rigged everything up with that in mind... On Saturday, we set up at 6 am in 100 fow and dropped the probe to the bottom, only to find 75 degree water.... So we pointed her north. As we worked out it got rougher and rougher, and we had no marks and no temp until we passed 260 fow. I was running my probe 120-130 down and temp ranged from 62-64. I ran a very simple set up of 3 riggers 120-140 down and dipseys 330-380. We took 6 shots, but only boated 2 2 year old kings, and missed a few decent ones. We had a terrible time with getting out rigs tangled with the big waves and current. We finally have up at 11:30 after taking all the abuse we could out there. The hits all came in 240-300 fow. All but one hit came on mag moonshine spoons- my flasher fly and meat rotted all day. On Sunday, we has big plans to run right out deep, only to be greeted with big wind and big waves. We waited to go out until about 12. We set up in 200 fow, and once we passed 260 we took 5 shots in an hour (between 12:15 and 1:15) on a nicer class of salmon, up to 23 lbs. all came on mag glow moonshine spoons, and again my dipseys with flasher fly and meat rotted. Te screen looked great from 280-400 down 110-150. Unfortunately I think we got the tail end of the bite because we would not take another shot after 2, and we gave up at 4:30. What a beating we took out there this weekend.... Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Nick, we got out at noon today and managed 5 bites, all salmon, including a decent 23 lber. Actually calmed down nicely by 4:20 when we left, but it was very rough when we got out there. We worked 260-400, 120-140 down, all on spoons Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. That's what Iove about the oak. No matter how crazy, you can always find good relatively stable water somewhere between 27-31 n. Nice steelies rick! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Have you had any trouble with the familiar bite strips falling apart? It wasn't an issue last year, but I've had some trouble this year... Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. What impresses me is that the quality stays so high even as you continue to grow. It would be very easy to become complacent, but you haven't. I used to tie all my own rigs but stopped because yours are just so good. I wouldn't even be able to tell you if other flies work, because all of mine are atommiks.... 23. I had no plans to fish this weekend, but my brother called me friday and said he didn't have to work anymore, so I figured what the heck... Lets go. We set up in 90 FOW on a NE troll at about 5:30. Word was there was salmon around, so I deployed mag spoons on the riggers, and dodger/fly on one dipsey and meat on the other dipsey. The screen looked pretty good from about 130 out, so we spent the early part of the morning working mostly 130-170 between chimney bluffs and lake bluff. Our first two fish came in about 140 FOW- one beautiful steelie that was 11 lbs 4 oz on a mag moonshine crab face, and a ~10 lbs king on the same spoon about 5 minutes later. Both came on an 85 rigger. We started with temp 50 down about 80, but that got a bit deeper as the day went on. Interestingly, as the day wore on we saw a ton of marks up higher- about 50-70, but never turned a fish up there. We got real quiet at 9:30, so we worked a bit deeper. when we hit 220 FOW, we had a 250 dipsey take a salmon shot that we missed, then immediately the other dipsey, 280 with cut bait, took another salmon, which ran about 14 lbs. I had to get out of town pretty early, so we picked up at 10 and came in. Hopefully out in a few weeks again...
