  1. Mine fought like advertised.... Something I'll never forget. Here is the account in case you missed it. http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=18203
  2. Sorry Ray, this fish is an Atlantic Salmon. The end of it's mouth would be past the eye on a brown. The area between the tail and body would be much wider if it's a brown. The fin between the dorsal and the tail would be spotted if it's a brown and the black markings would be round on a brown. http://www.fishcreeksalmon.org/atlantic-salmon-id.htm Heluva nice Atlantic, Chinooker!
  3. According to my source it may very well be your location on the lake that makes the difference. My source did tell me that the the Stinger Gator was the hottest spoon a couple of months ago. My only complaint is I wish Michigan Stinger would come up with a way to keep the paint on their spoons..
  4. Great Atlantic and a great weekend of fishing! Can't ask for anymore than that!
  5. Yes, it is Glen..... win·ning·est/ˈwiniNGist/ Adjective: Having achieved the most success in competition
  6. The plastic tanks themselves are porous enough to breath and allow some of the vapors to leave and air to enter.
  7. Vince, It was not my intention to offend you in any way. I find myself reading too much into these things and responding to how they appear. I respect your experience and what you have to say on all of the issues. I have read much about the Ludington fiasco and come to the conclusion that the Best Chance Too team knew exactly what they were doing and the observer was either not paying attention or really did not know any better. He may have been one like you have experience with who may have never been on a tourney boat before. To me their quick return of the prizes and money without a fight is evidence enough to a guilty verdict. The observer has to realize that if he allowed them to break the rules and caught that he goes down with them. The Captain's meeting for the pro/am's do not go far enough into the rules as to what a team can and can not do. It was touched on some in Oswego this year. The very first thing should be a hand out of observer responsibilities and rules when you sign in. It should be read, signed and returned at the end of the meeting. Just by saying the rules are on the back of the sheet or in the captains pack is not enough in my opinion.
  8. As a "bought" or hired observer I take exception to these statements. To say I don't care it just a bit much. Certainly, I don't have anything invested in these tournaments, but it don't keep me from telling these captains to play by the rules in doing my job. Ask any of the 6 whose boats I observed on. Any fish in question was measured and measured twice most of the time. Even if I was little sideways the job was done. At no time did I have a reason to suspect foul play at the back of the boat. That for the simple fact most needed fish for the box and they all count. (I have heard the stories of observers knitting a sweater, doing crosswords, or texting their girlfriend from the cabin while a team rode around the lake "losing fish" looking for number "12") To say you are better off with friends or teammates is a little snobbish and only keeps this thing to an elite circle. Does this help grow anything? My reason for observing in the first place is to learn what it takes to catch these fish and maybe at some point join the fray. I can certainly appreciate the efforts of the captains and crews I worked for letting me fish on their dime. The friendships and lessons learned are immeasurable and it would be foolish not to hope they put a full box of fish in their boat. Nothing wrong with pulling for the boat you are on, either. You hope all do well. Just not as well as MY team.
  9. http://pure-gas.org/about I came across this website that has a list of stations that supposedly have pure gas. I notice a lot of the Kwikfill's that Trap Jaw just posted on. This link within (the pure-gas.org) about page is eye opening with a list of states where there is NO requirement to put the ethanol content on the pump. A lot of almost everything you might want to know about this garbage is linked here. http://www.fuel-testers.com/state_guide_ethanol_laws.html
  10. There are no Kwikfill's here in my part of NJ. Nice to know that though. There is a Shell that sells pure gas over in PA according to the boat mechanic here. Next time up I'll be filling a few cans there. It is right on the way. I am going to do a search and see what brands have non-ethanol American.
  11. And here I thought I was saving a few bucks. What you learn after the fact.
  12. Thanks Tim, the sticky part threw me off. That hard start could make a difference.
  13. Thanks Tom. I replaced everything from the can to the carbs since. It is hard to find pure gas around here. I have read where the ethanol can be a lot higher than 10% at some places. Whether it is true or not I don't know. It wouldn't surprise me. This ethanol thing is a joke from the start.
  14. It is quite apparent that Hummingbird has a problem with this unit and should come to a settlement with those who own it regardless of any warranties. It is not fair to put out that amount of money and have to put up with the aggravation and downtime. How many times are you expected to send it in?
  15. Thanks for the reply guys, I am glad you liked the show.
  16. Take it from one who has had carburetor problems on my outboard from 10% ethanol gas. If you don't use it up in 2 weeks throw it in the truck and buy fresh. It does not take much to mess up your motor. I even go as far as disconnecting the hose at the motor and holding the intake plunger until the motor stops running. I do this even with adding Stabil or Startron.
  17. Tim, I wish i would have known that before buying a pair of GL's. I was going to use them for wire. How hard are the washers to swap out? Thanks, Mike
  18. It would be great to have all the weapons, but realize that it took a lot of these fisherman years to build their arsenal. With spoons at 5 bucks a pop and flashers and flies 4 times more you will go broke in a hurry, unless you have a fantastic paying job or a silver spoon shoved up your... Glen's advice is spot on.
  19. You could probably put it to practice anywhere you can find them. Lake trout are lake trout everywhere and jigging is a proven method to catching them in numbers. Crippled herring lures, heavy wobbling spoons and big bucktails work great in the reservoirs here. No reason they wouldn't on Lake O.
  20. Thanks Billy, I appreciate it. I just swapped the boom I got from your first mate with the short one on the Mag 5. Looks like I 'll be buying some parts when they are available.
  21. I wonder if the new boom end can be used with the old booms???
  22. Helava nice brown, Ray! Congrats to you and your son on the comeback award!
  23. Some great fishing there for sure, Jeremy. Makes me want to pull the little boat up there..
