  1. Sutton made both a thicker (heavier like yours) version and a flutter spoon thickness version which have quite different action. Your spoons Yvon closely replicate the heavier Millers and you've come as close as any I have seen If you can lay your hands on some lighter (brass) metal the flutter version is really worth making too
  2. Wow! thanks for the report I have been wondering about the status. Doesn't look great for an early bite right now....
  3. It wasn't mentioned but those spoons are not really designed for trolling in the conventional modern way - they are for jerking copper on bottom (very nice job on them by the way). That is why the hook is set up the way it is to avoid hanging up on bottom. The spoons look great for that purpose but would not necessarily function well for other forms of trolling. Sutton's also had versions of their spoons in that design long before the Miller's (e..g. early 1900's and before). The spoons are best used with a victrola box and single strand wire (or monel for some folks). Often a three way swivel is attached to the copper wire and a weight is suspended about a foot or so from the bottom and then a leader containing the spoon is attached straight behind. The sinker bangs along the bottom stirring things up with the lure trailing behind on the leader with the fish attracted to the commotion thinking it is a"vulnerable" target. Very much "old school" and very effective for lake trout and the occasional silver.
  4. You have a PM
  5. I'm not on there either John. Never got into the social media crap. You may contact him at his home address however and see what arrangements are possible. The spoons are great and Jason is a good guy. He got on there quite awhile before all the crap hit the fan too.
  6. Fishing isn't a race. It should be fun and some of the fun involves trying different things and using different methods and experimenting. A true waste of time can occur though when someone does the same thing over and over the same way regardless of outcome. Each method of fishing has its strengths and weaknesses and place in the arsenal or "toolbox".
  7. https://www.facebook.com/GreatLakesLures/ Great lures, company and guy that runs it
  8. Probably Ace # 4 or 5 spoons
  9. I've had three of them for several years and they are great and also three of Troutman's torpedos which also work great and hold up. We are indeed lucky to have these guys making these incredible weights for reasonable prices. hats off to Rich and harvey
  10. redacted
  11. A ceramic or stainless tip would be a better solution and cause less friction and potential wear. The twilli's are usually fairly easy to remove to put a regular tip on and aren't necessary for braid use.
  12. I wasn't disparaging the bass guys just letting folks know that during tournaments a dozen or more bass boats park right at the confined area adjacent to the ramp itself and even out by the marker buoy waiting tfor the start making it difficult to get through there when you launch your boat. Mine is only 18 ft and I had to squeeze through them twice in the semi-darkness of the early mornings.
  13. There is also the fact that the bass guys locate there during their tournaments before getting started in the AM's
  14. I use the improved clinch knot on fluoro connections with 7 wraps around and wet cinched a few times til very tight
  15. Yeah two years ago we were catching lakers in the shallows through the ice while fishing for perch and they were spitting up LIVE dink perch.
  16. Last I knew the water level was VERY low.
  17. We were at Keuka Indian Pines yesterday for the afternoon bite and it didn't happen for anyone around us or us. I jigged up a bullhead which was a bit unexpected
  18. The strength and sharpness of the hook is a lot more important than color. I use red trebles and silver on my homemade flies with real good success and I honestly don't think color makes a difference.
  19. Love the ID on it as "Antique fishing dowwnrigger"

  21. Also be aware that you can have a bad battery that reads fully charged until you put a significant load on it. Usually corroded or dirty terminals terminals will give you a clicking sound.
  22. As Rob said the inlines are more flexible in the ways they can be used. The big boards excel running in the rough water (more stabile) , and running heavier stuff (e.g. over 300 ft coppers etc.).
  23. Small #8 Spro swivel (55 lb test) in between
  24. Yeah my set was about $1,000 for the kitchen but as Rob said they have a life time warranty and when the wife uses one as a screwdriver it can be important
  25. Mike is right about the motor noise. The water clarity is also a problem in the shallows from the standpoint of sight though as you want the lure to not be connected with your boat in any way. One of the more effective things to use that way is a jointed stick bait or flatfish type lure as it looks "wounded" and "vulnerable" and way back there are no distractions. The kayak is probably the most deadly way to do it too. Good luck with it. I'd be using 8-10 lb fluoro leader in that area too with a small black ball bearing swivel or with stick "loop tied".
