  1. Nice work ray. We used to used to cornmeal in a bag. Just dip the fingers in it and you can grip a worm. Sawdust is good too.
  2. Jack, 35 to 40 feet. Yep, they were males and full of spunk. This week is nasty, but thanks much. Will drop you a note later.
  3. Wow, hot out there. Flies didnt have a problem bitin. We went 4 for 6 on walleyes. 2 at 20 and 21, and 2 at 16. Smaller fish we let go. Also had a couple of goats (boys love to fight em) and some white perch. Having the bigger ones for dinner tonight. Perch seem to be bitin just fine. Bigger schools out in 45 + of waters. Just north and west of meyers. We had a fun time on the water. Was gonna try on tomorrow evening, but weather looks dicey.
  4. Wow, smokin idea Tom. And probably can get the boy to help! FK yeah, it may be a flat kinda season.
  5. Too early in the season, or am I looking for crawlers in all the wrong places?
  6. fantastic! I had the radio going for a spell, but was slow. Great charter for the clients...Nice work. I picked up a couple of those torpedos at the last LOTSA show. So, been dying to give it a shot. Hows the crawler situation out there? Poor pickins if you ask me.
  7. Got off the water today, Sunday, at 300. We got 2 walleyes (16 inchers), I smallie, I sheepshead, and I perch. Good crowd of boats in front of the windmills. We ran meat the whole time. Kinda slow. Found a couple of nice humps with good fish on em, but no dice. My gps route looks almost total color. We pounded the area. Ran my snapweight (2oz) program at 1.2 to 1.5. Best color, purple blade, yellow beads. All fish released. Gonna try tomorrow am.
  8. Nice. I see the usual suspects chiming in. We are gonna need a Barcelona and Dunkirk thread soon. Was out there today, Sat am, way in front of the windmills in 40 feet of water or so. Pretty calm. We ran meat on triple d harnesses in darker colors. I ran my snap weight program, with a couple of high lines. The snaps produced 2 fish - a 24 and a 25. Not too bad. We were off by 1130 or so. 2 bites all day. Ran a renosky on a 10 foot lead on my shorty off a bottom bouncer off the back of the boat. No play there. We got on at 800. We ran passed the departure buoy and fished canadian waters for the last hour. Some decent marks but no action. Nice to get the first couple of walleyes of the season. Both were released. Gonna try for some perch then troll a little bit later in the morning. I am gonna break out the secret weapon stuff.
  9. Oh, and the EC is out there today.
  10. I still prefer to run hooks. I have a better chance to hittin the exact depth and replicating than I do with meat. Dont get me wrong I fish a lot of both, but preference to hooks. With that said, every meat trip is still tuning and fine tuning. I run a snap weight program that I am pretty confident in, but not exact as hooks. Or at least I think so. Whose got the best crawler right now in the buffalo area?
  11. Check the battery volts too. Some of the newer units need extra juice. I was on a fancy ranger walleye boat last year. And we tried to start the big motor, the unit shut off. Volts were too low to power.
  12. Its a strange spring indeed. Water temp in front of the windmills was 65. That tells me they are starting to set up in their summer patterns, eg, deepers. I find runnin hooks better in the colder water. As the temp comes up, I switch to meat. Will be giving it shot also this weekend.
  13. There some big fish being caught in the Buffalo/Dunkirk/PA area. Not sure how far that is for ya. Plus Bay of Quinte in the fall is pretty darn good. Heard some great things about henderson harbor, but havent made it there yet. Spring harness bite is supposed to be smokin.
  14. Nice work. Meat bite is cookin already....
  15. Just got back from fishing the windmills this late morning. Very pleasant out there. Did mark fish at 25 to 30 out in front of the windmills. Got a smallie that it. Itll get better.
  16. Wow, nice work jim. Sounds like a great time. Always a fan of the Southtowns club, but your observations are right on. A chum from the local bar (anchor inn) Arch loves the club. I chat with him everytime I get.
  17. Fantastic job!
  18. nicely done. Yep, I know dj and westfield. Looks like the sticks are work. Thought it would be a slower speed, but hey, yer doing good. Keep up the good work.
  19. Nice Larry. Ahh hot and tots, a key part of my retirement plan. Loved the hot ntot when I was in the midwest. metal beaks the best.
  20. Water is certainly warm enough to troll. I think I would start off with hooks, then maybe move to meat as the day gets brighter and warmer. With the temp, I bet they will be setting up pretty close to their summer pattern.
  21. Does any one have one laying around they arent using anymore.? I am east amherst/small boat harbor.
  22. Nicely done fellas.
  23. Ashtabula is pretty sweet in the summer time, though I tend to fish it a bit later, like july or so. I like it. Not too far from Buffalo, great food near by.
  24. Yeah, was thinking about the same thing.
  25. I have been getting the same reports. Bigger fish on cranks, but lots of eaters on jigs, with the occassional big fish. They are spanking them on the reefies!
