  1. Wow, nice work. Rebs likes that set up. Spoon and harness.
  2. Wow, what a score. A salmon guy looking for walleye info. I just might be a, ahem, walleye guy needing some salmon tips. Sent PM.
  3. Very nice. The kids are excited. We will see how it goes. Thanks for the heads up.
  4. I got 4 young monkeys (10yrs old) staying at the house this upcoming week. They want to go fishing of course. Now my boy and my godson are old walleye sticks, been taking those kids out since they were 3. The other 2 not so much. We are gonna hit lake erie for an evening, but wanted to get some action on Lake Ontario. I figure steelhead the way to go. Should I run spoons only, higher in the water column, in warmer water? Will be launching out of Olcott. PM if you like. The walleyes are goin good on erie!
  5. Hey, hey walteye. Hows that bite in barcelona? We will be fishing out of Dunkirk on friday. What kinda line were you running on the dipsey? I have braid. I see some folks with mono. And kevin swears by wire.
  6. Thats a good point. Always thought the deeper fish were more like resident fish. Higher fish, especially as you get closer to PA border were the transients from the west. With this hot spell, more fish are movin east.
  7. Yep, never had a problem with fleas on erie. A few here or there, but nothing in comparison to Lake O.
  8. Keep it up. Fish are movin east very fast. Asthabula and Conneaut starting to fire. Barcelona and dunkirk starting up as well. New stick bait ey? There are new stick baits out there? HA!. its got the roll of the renosky. thats a nice roll.
  9. Yep, I get the temp strategy, but isnt that an awful lot of water to cover to find temp? I mean how do I eliminate water that may no be holding temp. Or is it a hunt and peck type thing?
  10. I left Buffalo last night, and made it up to Sacketts Harbor. Had some dinner, drank some beer, spent the night, and made my way to Montreal. I seen all the hot topics, mexico, fat nancys tackler, henderson harbor, sacketts harbors, st. vincents, pulski, . Its like reading this board and hearing where everyone is fishing. Left buffalo, and drove east. Took a left at syracuse. Beautiful country. We dont have that kinda sheet in Illinois. Nice.
  11. jay, any color of blade working better than the next?
  12. Absolutely, its the the movement from the water. Inline are great for non surge, less eg 2-4 foot waves. As the surge increases I move to snap weights higher on the line. So imagine 52 FOW, with a 3 to 6 foot wave. As the boat surges, the offshore board surges. If you have an inline, it "jerks" the bait. If you add a snapweight 20 feet from the bait, the mono from the board to the snap is absorbed in the mono stretch from the board to the snap. I am gonna get Gill T out out on the water in the new few weeks.
  13. Excellent job! I was passing through the 1000 lakes area this morning, as I headed up to Montreal. What a beautiful area. I have to come back and fish walleyes. Right now working on my frenc h and drinking beer...
  14. Ha, walteye. Yeah, dont fall out of the boat! 5 to 6 feet is just about fine. I try not to exceed the length from the rod tip to the bottom. I like the inlines. Whens its surging though, I go to snaps. Inlines no fun in the surge. One other thing. I had to dump the rear treble in favor of a single gamatsu. The treble was spookin the fish.
  15. 50 is like 24, 60 is 26, and 70 is 29. When the boards stalled on the turns, my bait sunk. Did have a swing and a miss. Free spooled it and VIOLA there she was. I use these inlines. Very sweet. http://rednekoutfitters.com/inline_trolling_weight_chart.html
  16. Took the boat to work today, and decided to hit the SBH afterwards. Boat mate got a bit green, since it was kinda bumpy out there. Found some nice fish 42.48/78.57, just outside the canada line, around 52 or so FOW. We were out about an hour, got 4 walleye, biggest 7lb11oz, and 1 trash can lid (big sheepshead). Pink beads, pink blade with chart back, and 3 oz inline running 1.4. to 1.6, 50 feet behind the board. Now go get em.
  17. 80 lb Power Pro with 100lb Flouro leaders. maybe overkill out here, but thats what they taught me on Cass Lake and Plantagenet in Minn.
  18. HA! I hear ya. Once cady sold it, it went to crap. White crappie my favorite. One of the best walkin the dog lures. The knockoffs just dont compare. Gonna have to pass these onto the boy. lots of good karma there.
  19. Interesting indeed. My 10 year has been asking to get into a musky tournament. I still have my secret midwest bait, a few original Steve Cady weagles. I swear my go to bait, er, at least in the midwest.
  20. Nice on the leadcore. I used to use leadcore and snapweights on the big river system. man, did that track good. Crazy ivan all the time with no tangles. With the surges though, wouldnt mono be better than leadcore? That stretch sucks up a lot of that surge pull between the board and the snap.
  21. Excellent work. We had a fun time this last weekend in ashtabula. Wow that water is warm, and that school 8 to 10 miles out is gonna be pushing hard toward barcelona and dunkirk. 30 feet down not bad at all. Any idea on speed? I figure about 1.4 to 1.8?
  22. Another comment, what are you using to relieve the frozen buildup in the pea hole? I have been using a bottom bouncer end that seems to work nicely. And what about draining water from the motor in subfreezing conditions? On the illinois river, we used to raise and lower the motor multiple times to drain it well. Then spin it (dry turnover)for a couple of second to get water out of the impeller and drawing area. (Yamaha 200 HPDI) Are these things something I should continue with my Optimax 250?
  23. Crazy. We had the same issue. Was gonna hit lake o out of olcott last night. Winds at 10 or less out of the north. Got there and yikes, a bit lumpy for my taste. Now if it were myself and the boy, no problem. But we had the missus and two of the boys buddies. Didnt risk it.
  24. Excellent work. We will be hitting olcott later in the week for some fun fishing. Looks like you got em pretty good.
  25. Was just talking about this to a friend the other night. He says to get the full 1000 feet and you wont have any worries. I also though wes at slippery sinker in olcott will put it on for 5 cent a foot. That sounded reasonable.
