  1. Ended up having the cover made by the canvas guys at bow and stern marine. They are there every Tuesday. Nice guarantee and good work.
  2. Yeah, otis indeed. Having met Ray a few times, I know he has the knowledge and the skills. So, all in friendly jest. Gill T had a nice article in GLA. Thought it was interesting. Still working on getting things to go. But I have had a heckuva support team, with a lot of folks right from here. Will keep up the good work.
  3. Wow, congrats. AARP wont be the same.
  4. It had to be stable very far out. Certainly wasnt happening near shore. That must be what an upswelling is. Bang some fish ray.
  5. Had the kids out. 3 boys @ 10, 1 girl at 9. Was fun. Not too hot, just enough wind. Very quiet. Didnt see anyone fishing besides us. Then again, we were a few miles out of newfane marina(olcott), starting at 200 FOW> Ran two dipsys on wire. Got first one to 200 feet out, it releases. Dammit. Reel it in, tighten the screw, and sent it back 210. Did the other one and got it 250 feet back, and it releases. Dammit. Tighten the screw and send it back to 260. Put the new shark weights, purchased from the fine fellow here, and attached the fishhawk. 40 feet down, 45 degrees. Ran one 45 and one 60. Both had spoons, tranny and micheal jackson glow. Put on a steelie stomper and 10 color and sent it back. Happy to say I am still the leadcore monkey on the boat. Ran to 260 FOW northwest. A few hours of fun. Didnt do anything. Was amazed to see 3 sherriffs and 1 boarder patrol guys spend a good part of the afternoon there. Very mellow on a Friday morning at 9 or so. Seen a WICKED fog creep in right in front of the harbor mouth. Pretty thick. Thickest I seen it in a while. At 100pm in afternoon. Couldnt see sheet. Went slow, and with the help of the gps, made it in just fine. Strangest thing, other than the 2 waterspouts outta dunkirk last year, that I ever seen. Was happy to have a nice spread going, good temp, decent speed (2.5 to 3). no tangles, good rake. Changed the riggers every 15 minutes for depth. Changes the bait every 30 minutes. Kinda reminded me of what Sonny reynolds said about Keenan a few years back "damn that boy looks like spider monkey he moves so fast on dat boat". Even though we we fished a little deeper (200 feet), the water was so much different than the 100 foot water. In terms of current and temp.
  6. Welcome to the site. In the same boat, ahem, as you. Spent most of my life chasing walleyes, now try to chase salmon when I get the chance. The forums here have been great.
  7. You got that right Kevin. Nice to start building up the spoon collection. Come on Ray give it up. That old drunk, folksy, "jeez guys", Andy Griffith tone is getting old. You got skeelz. Now how about helping a couple of us newbies out.? We all match the hatch and conditions. We all think about speed, depth, wind, sun, you name it. We aint pros, but we aint boobs either.
  8. Yee haw, gotta have a plan. Now I am looking for a leadcore monkey...HA
  9. Now I know why the creme ale tastes so good!
  10. Wicked combo guy. Very nice setup. You must be stoked.
  11. Maybe not headfirst 100%, but I gotten my fair share of T boned DHJ14's. Don't want to get muskie guys worked up, but my limite number of hardbaits, just about all eyes are upfront. My weagles are, and thats good enough for me. Salmon, lots of eyes on the back. In fact, when I first saw em, I thought "wrong end fellas". Hey, if it gets fish, it gets fish. On lake michigan perch fishing, its a tail hooked only on the spreaders. Lip hookit and you are goin home with a small bucket.
  12. Sure Jack. Now I remember. We had a couple of calls when I was fishing with rebs. Yeah, those chamberlains are sweet. I was using one of those black releases when we first put the ball over. I swear it seemed like I was draggin that 5lber around for like 30 minutes before resetting. I like the 20 minute rule anyway. I did try the rubber bands, and although easy enough to snap off, they slid a bit too much for me. Maybe a bad batch of bands. Thanks for the heads up. I am gonna have to get rebs to come out again.
  13. Fish still being caught at the departure buoy out of buffalo. Deeper water 50+. Harnesses. There are a few reports. Heck I think I even put a few GPS spot. They probably moved but not that far.
  14. Nice work fellas. Glad to see some fish getting caught.
  15. Yep, here you go. Mailed my check last week, got it in the mail today. Very nice work. They feel like they have lots of "karma" =============================================================================== I can put 3 in a USPS flat rate shipping box for $11.00. Send me $86.00 and I will mail them the day your $ comes. Harvey O'Harra,301 Perry ST. Watkins Glen,NY14891
  16. Wow, very sweet pics. Yep, already got the 42nd and NBK. Get this, headed to vancouver for a week. Great salmon out there. Will be eatin good..
  17. Been following a similar thread on my old lake michigan forum. Kevorkian, and bloody nose are tops. Should I break out some of my midwest spoons? [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  18. Nice report page. What kinda releases are you using? Blacks? Chamberlains? Walkers? [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  19. Looks like your on the right track. In canada, they refer to them as pickeral. I got a monthly newsletter from the Southtowns Walleye Association and they had a real nice writeup on Blue Pike (walleye). I think infisherman did a short blip on them too. Blue pike The blue pike was a homegrown species, too, unique to Lake Erie, but it seems to have disappeared entirely. Or has it? Kenyon says there has been renewed interest by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) in whether the blue pike (actually a blue walleye, but called "pike" because of it teeth) was a separate species or subspecies or color variation of the walleye. The USFWS is also looking into reports of blue pike caught in northern Canadian lakes, supposedly remnants from earlier transplants from Lake Erie. DNA testing on tissue samples (kept for decades and recently rediscovered) from actual blue pike helped determine recently that the blue pike was indeed a distinct species. Slightly smaller than the "yellow" walleye, looking almost transparent, or so Kenyon says observers have told him, the blue pike was a popular table fish. Blue pike were fished for heavily for sport and commercial sale, but Kenyon says their disappearance was caused more by the smelt "overwhelming" the blue pike, eating their fry and competing for spawning grounds. http://www.fish.state.pa.us/anglerboate ... rieerr.htm
  20. Been meaning to get out after work this week, but the wind forecast are just poor. rebs did ok last time out. Evening has been pretty good of late. And the fish cleaning station at SBH is working just fine...
  21. It seemed sluggish this week at Olcott, though seen some nice fish. Did notice plenty of steelhead, so there's action. We have had funky directions on wind over the last month. So, I am buying the thermocline explanation. We still have plenty of time to set up for august.
  22. Yellow pike Nice work on the walleyes. Hatchets run pretty quick. Did you notice a big difference in speed between the ball and surface?
  23. nice work walteye. Keep the missus happy. Denis from fishingniagara is POUNDIN them. Good school in the canadian waters off point albion. Also inside the usline near the departure buoy.
  24. Excellent thread guys. I am all ears. Great tip mark with the extra flouro. About to head over to slippery sinker to get my first 2 reels of wire.
