  1. This unit comes with power cord but will need transducer and/or GPS dome. $50 A GPS dome may be available for an additional charge if needed.
  2. April 1st is considered "reservation day". That's officially day one for staff.
  3. King Slammin' is right, transient dockage is available at the Newfane town marina, but there is also the Wilson Boatyard and Bootleggers for marinas in Wilson. Welcome to Niagara county!
  4. Here is the announcement for those not on the Tournaments email list: The 32nd Lake Ontario Pro-Am Salmon Team Tournament out of Niagara, utilizing the ports of Olcott and Wilson, will be holding its contest this year May 20,21,22 2016. 3 full days of tournament fishing with opportunities for a 5 fish(trophy division) or 12 fish (classic division) competition--or both. For starters, once again there will be more than 100 percent payback for any money that comes in from entry fees and sponsors. More than 100%!!! It ALL goes to the fishermen. The Niagara Cup for the Trophy and Classic divisions respectively, will be offering up a separate pot of money for the winners. As of right now, the winners will receive an EXTRA $10,000 for the Classic and $5000 for the Trophy. Thats pretty darn good in addition to the entry fee purse. Rumors have been circulating that there isn't any money in this year's tournament. This is not true. For added excitement, Tournament chairmen(Niagara, Oswego, Sodus) are in the process of aligning together once again to offer an overall Lake Cup representing the longstanding tradition of events that are formatted with mixed species, no cull, observers, and the Classic divisions. Prize money is being put together for this as well. More details to come. The Niagara Pro-Am is the grand daddy of fishing tournaments on Lake Ontario. Some of the top teams on the lake compete to earn the right to be called the winner. Posted with permission of the Niagara Pro-Am chairman
  5. Posting for my wife and her committee. Inspired by a similar fundraising tournament held in Oswego in June, this years Niagara event will be August 19th 2016. Boats can leave from the ports of Olcott and Wilson. The event will raise funds for all types of women's cancer, and have a small purse and trophies for the ladies to compete for. Ladies teams will consist of 2--6 with a maximum of 2 men onboard. Teams can consist of private rec boats and Charter boats. A list will be created for Charter Captains who would like to be booked for the event by a womens team looking to participate. New info will be available as this comes together and the new facebook page is: Reelin' for a cure. https://www.facebook.com/Reelin-For-A-Cure-751320754999724/?fref=ts The email address is [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to help by volunteering or donating. Charter boats who are available that day that would like to be put on a list to be considered by some Ladies teams should also contact them.
  6. Sometimes it just isn't that simple. The size at AGE has not changed much over the years on Lake Ontario. The DEC uses age 3 Chinook as a barometer. There has definitely been a trend where Chinooks mature at a younger age. There is some evidence that fast growth can lead to this, but it is unclear. Age 4 Chinooks in the Great Lakes are the largest for obvious reasons, but that is always the smallest by number of mature Chinooks. IMO, early maturing Chinooks is more common in hatchery fish and could be caused by holding pens. If that's the case that trend is here to stay as pens are essential to create fishable numbers of Chinook with the increasing number of predators feasting on fingerling Chinooks( birds AND fish). There is not a 5 yr trend of growth reduction. If anything it's 2 years and its directly linked to the 2 record setting winters. In 2013 we were fortunate to set both 12 fish and 6 fish tournament format weight records( Oswego Pro-Am and ATOMMIK invitational) and we did it with King Salmon. We are all hoping this mild winter/early Spring will reduce some of the anxiety.
  7. You will need to at least skuff it and apply primer(epoxy barrier coat is preferred). Then you can use the thin ink-like paints that go on so thin you will never need to sand again. You do need to power wash as soon as the boat comes out each season if you are mooring it. We wipe with thinner and put a coat on each Spring.
  8. In the case of the Bass, this time it's not about fishing pressure but the decline is due to Cormorant and Goby predation
  9. See you at the Roch mtg this year Jerry. Remember, Cafora's doesn't serve past 9pm, LOL.
  10. It is very important to attend at least one of these. DEC is considering several moves to enhance the Lake fishery but it is much easier to justify if people show their concern. Grab a friend and attend.
  11. Yes this is true. The Cali boys are excited about that finish. They said there was demand from the Great Lakes areas where low light trolling was growing in popularity.
  12. The fuel consumption will make you happy. I have spent days trolling on a 130hp 4 stroke and that was minimal. The rpm will depend on your load and prop with that little workhorse.
  13. Please check out Legacy Rob's post in "LOU for change",(Legislative issues) . Needless to say, Lamprey funding is imperative for the Great Lakes fishery and the survival of gamefish. Obviously the current administration is not an angler friendly one, so concerned anglers and stakeholders need to make their voices heard. It is money well spent considering the economic engine that is the Great Lakes Sport fishery, not to mention the quality of life improvements it has brought to this region. Time is of the essence.
  14. A great choice for that application. Drags are smooth and lots of capacity for ample backing. The 553LS is extremely fast as well.
  15. This rig is as "turn key" as it gets. I have watched Brian pamper her for years.
  16. HBC I've had more than one set of Borg Warners go 7000+ hrs before needing an overhaul. Once they slip and burn its over so fluid level and cooler condition is huge. Like everyone said here, 1300 hrs isn't a concern but what the owner may have done is. If it was run low on fluid or shifted at high RPMs then it could go the next time its used.
  17. Right Art! And the bigger gas engines in trucks and boats will see better mileage as well.
  18. Todd, J-Plugs still produce but a newer one on the scene that has been a good producer for us is the Captains Choice plug from Dreamweaver. Updated colors available that are relevant to the Great Lakes and the finish stays on. Our longest King last season, a 43" Salmon came on a Captains Choice plug.
  19. This post is accurate. If you are looking at a HULL by a quality boat builder then it's not a problem. I've had friends recently looking at boats and the ones that are lightly used often have problems of their own. Power plants are going to wear out--that's just a fact. I/O's are known to be high maintenance, straight inboards less of a concern. On the inboards Borg Warner has stood the test of time. Constantly monitor fluid levels is the best advice. A guy whose on his boat daily is going to know every squeak or tick. History has shown boat owners who have lost interest and moved on to other things often are negligent. This can be far more costly than consistent use.
  20. Refurbished by Trophy Taker back to brand new condition. $35
  21. The Clarion 553LS is a speed merchant--best used for Coppers 300' and less and cores. You will appreciate the POWER of the 50L despite the added weight, not to mention the extra backing capability.
  22. Its the only show we have about OUR game. Tactics would be too dry for average people to care--they need some casual anglers and even some non anglers to watch in order to be successful. It's all about the game plans, challenges presented by fish, weather, mechanical, and even other competitors. The harbor shots are just as important as the fish. As long as there are SALMON it will have 200K(some 1 million) vessels running all over the place. Throw in the "Team" concept and the dockside camaraderie and it works. It was only a couple years ago they had a lot of delayed maturity and big fish(20 plus) but even 10lb Kings are worthy of pursuing and the publics attention.
  23. If the same people who do "Wicked Tuna" did it here, it would be wildly successful. Its ALL about the production. They are SO good at the camera angles you feel like you're there smelling the diesel fumes. One things for sure, we would not have to stage the on the water or harbor side drama like they do--there's enough of that on this lake that's authentic to last a decade worth of shows! The Tuna shows work because they are so valuable and they are HUGE. Here, we do regularly run into chaos and drama, both good and bad. The tournaments would make an excellent back drop. Get it rolling Brian!
  24. I don't have any experience with chirp but my guess is its operating closer to the 70 like the hawk does. You will not get any interference from 200.
  25. This is true Paul. Just the possibility of the "farm equipment" being implemented leads both the fish and anglers to gladly do battle with higher offerings. One thing to keep in mind with all of these tools is retrieve ratios do not always equate the speed that line comes in. Gearing and the size of the reel and handle can all affect line retrieval. As for utilizing floats, small toy boats, and any other tactic to avoid getting spooled, that goes out the window in a tourney setting as it automatically disqualifies the catch as its no longer attached to your vessel, LOL.
