wire rods with mag dipsy's
rshubuck replied to bluewater's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
If I remember right 30lb wire match with a mag dipsy is a 1 to 2.5 ratio at a down speed at 2.1 mhp. So every 2.5 ft you let out you go 1 ft down. I've got mine down as far as 110 that I now for sure. The regular dipsys I think max out at 90' down. I ran 30lb mono with the regular dipsys for a little while before I got wire and I don't think I could even reach 70' at a 2.1 mhp down speed. Hope this helps. -

I'm stealing this thread I been fishing all my life but just recently got into trolling. Probablay last summer around June was my first adventure trolling on my dads 16ft alum. slvan. We caught probally 7 LL's and one 7lb laker. I was hooked I bought a 23ft sportscraft off this forum shortly after setup with the 3 riggers, 6 rodholders and the depth raider. I can't say I would have bought the depth raider on my own if it did not come with the boat. I can be stubborn to my own fault I found that the depth raider to be one of my best tools on the boat but I can't even say that because everything on the boat works together to make a successful trip. The Depth raider lets me know what my speed and temp are. How stable or unstable the water is. My lowrance HDS 7 with the Navaconics platium chip is absolutely priceless. I can see underwater points or structors that I had no idea even existed. You can see perch holes that have been kept secret for over 30 years by fisherman. Now they are no longer secrets. The sonar imgages are incredible also. It gives you a clear picture of what is underneath you. Also, the GPS with the trials and waypoints is a great tool in so many ways. Just to scratch the surface you can keep track of all your fishing trips and were you marked a waypoint such as bait marked, fish caught or what ever. The possibilities are endless. I have yet to figure everthing out about that fishfinder. But one thing I learned is this sport is expensive but so darn addictive. I ended the season running 2 wire/dipsy setup, 3 downriggers and 1 400' copper or ten color lead core down the chute. My plans are to add a kicker motor to my boat for economy and back up reasons. After, that I am hoping to by dual cisco rod holders for each side. I hoping to run 4 wire/dipsy. Also, I'm need to get plannerboard mast for each side of my boat and otter boats. Hopeing to do some flat lineing and also run lead core and copper on the otterboats. If time and money permits I have plans to fish the big O for some Browns and Walleye One thing to add. Having good gear and knowing how to use it is the difference from catching 3 to 5 fish a trip 30 to 40 fish a trip. Thanks LOU community. I don't think I could have had this much success as I have if it weren't for you.! I'm just rambling now Thanks for listening.

Oh I forgot about that one. That was awesome

I primarly fish the fingers and Lake O and my 2 cents are if you got the money definetly go with electric. When you get into fish electric will get you setup each time just that much faster. I use the Cannon mag 10 for my depth raider. Its not the high speed one cause I like to see the temp change as it goes down to see how fast the temp breaks changes. Also, my deph raider is set up in the middle to tell the true speed of the boat at the ball. My 2 corner riggers are the High speed models cause I like to setup fast and keep my rods wet. Cannnons, Scotty's and Big Jon downriggers you can't go wrong with. I prefer Cannons but mainly cause thats what I grew up using. I love Big Jons rod holders but you can add them to the cannons if you prefer. Running dipsy is a must. I probably catch 80 to 90% of my fish on the dipsy rods. Hope this helps.

I'm so sick of these half time shows. I can't remember when the last good show they have put on. Also, I agree that the Nation Anthem is not for personal expression. I thought the commercials were great though. My two favorites were darth vader commercial and the Bridgestone tire commercial with the beaver. I can't say I want to eat doritos again after that one commercial Go Steelers but Congradulations to the Packers.

Nice job! I'm jealous

Soliciting Opinions on Electronics, etc to outfit new boat
rshubuck replied to paskuls's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I have the Lowrance HDS 7 with Naviconics Platium chip. I run split screen between the map and sonar. It works great but I would love to have another HDS 7 to run each separtely. I truely believe 2 separete units is the way to go. When I have the money I am sure I will be buying another Lowrance unit. The only bad thing I heard about the Lowrance HDS units is if they get wet they won't work and have to be returned for waranty work. I have not had any problems with mine. The great thing about these units is that you can get other features later down the road. Naviconics Premium chip is an absolute must. I would not buy Lowrance's maps. They are ok but nothing in comparision to what Naviconics has to offer. 1 foot contours and it is accurate! Its an incredible tool. I run the Depth Raider for temp and speed. I have no compliants with it. When I get past a 125ft down I do have to put a damp rag over the antenna but I have lost a lot of coating off my downrigger cable. I do not have a good marine radio yet. I'm looking to get one that links up with my HDS unit and I am open for suggestions. Hope this helps. -
I have been partial to big jon rod holders but have been reading a lot and I am sold on Cisco Rod holders. Here is a link to there web page. http://www.ciscofishingsystemsltd.com/page3.html

Fingerlakes cold front strategy
rshubuck replied to lil' troller's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Its funny you mention that RR lil troller. I was just thinking about it and that day we went out it was a pretty hot spoon. I haven't caught very many fish on the RR since. But my stinger spoons never let me down. -
Thanks for the advice. I will hold off on ordering the EZ steer untill the motor is installed. My biggest dilama now is finding a reasonable priced motor. Chowder gave me a great web page to check out but I would like to go and talk to some dealers in person and ask more question. Is there anyone out there that you guys recommend talking to? I wouldn't mine buying one used either as long as it was not a more then a couple years old.

Thanks guys! I will let you know how I make out.

This is my boat and I'm want to put a kicker motor on it to save on fuel and have a back up. I def want to go 4 stroke to t it into my 62 gallon tank I have been doing a lot of research but need to reaffirm what I'm thinking. I have many concerns. What size motor? I been thinking 8, 9.9 or 15hp. I found a good deal on an 8hp yamaha high thrust used. Dry weight is 3500lb but I think when I have my boat fully loaded I'm pushing about 5000lbs easy. I mainly fish cayuga lake but I do the occasional trip to lake O. Next, i'm concerned with charging the batterys. I run 12 to 15 hr trips regurlary. Is 6amps going to be enough to charge 2 batterys controlling 3 downriggers, fish finder, depthraider, radio, vhf radio and (lights if running at night). I usually keep a spare battery onboard just in case. Steering? I want to steer this with my steering wheel. I do not have power steering so I was thinking of using E.Z. Steer Connectors, but it looks like a pain. Open to suggestions. Mounting this motor? My swim platform makes this a little more difficult. I'm thinking being a carpenter and cutting a side section out to make room for the motor. Shouldn't be to difficlult. The bracket i was thinking of using is the Marine Tech adj up down. What works best long or short shaft motor? Do I need to tilt the motor up if using this bracket? Throttle control? I was thinking of just using the stock remote controls to save money but also considering a throttle control like ConTrollKing. Is best to go with a tiller model if I go this route? Please set me straight. My budget is a poor one but working out the details now. Anyone got one for sell? Thanks again!

I'm definetly going with the 15hp. If I can't run the radio and listen to Hank Williams then an upgrade is in the imediate future I'm just hoping I can pinch the pennys and go with a 4 stroke. I need a good deal. Any out there?

The only access I have to the bow is through the cuddy. Thats why I was considering electric but its pricey. Orginally the side mast were mounted behind the windshield as suggested but when I bought the boat I backed it up the hill under a tree and took out one of the mast off:@ It broke the mounting base right off. The other one I used once but the reel is very cheap and I thought I was going to break it off when i used it. After I posted this yesterday I was doing some more research and I love to buy a fishing arch with the lights, rocket lauchers, and reels. That would be awesome. But I want to get a kicker motor and have my bimini top redone. Why does all this have to cost so much. By the time I'm all said and done I could go buy a bigger boat with a hard top all set up. I just can't win. Oh well! I love this sport and can't wait to get back out there even if I can't get what I want
-
Well I want to rig my boat up with a plannerboard mass for spring fishing and wanted a better idea of what to get and where should I mount it. I'm not sure I can pinch the pennies together but I was considering electric and mounting it on the Bow. Is it worth it? Otterboards are also what I was planning on purchasing. Heres a pic of my boat. Thanks for the Help!

I love hunting coyotes. Anyone who wants to go and has a few spots to hit let me know. I will take you out.

Just to give you an idea. Nikon makes the Omega scope with reticles out to 250 yards. Muzzeloaders are very accurate but like anything else there are a lot of factors to it like Missdemeanor mentions. I have the Thompson center Omega and use 100 grains of Triple7 pellets matched with 250gr T/C shockwave bullets. I am a Thompson center fan. I really like Encore but its a little pricey. CVA and Knight also make a great muzzleloader.
