  1. No hook setting motion on my boat either. When a rigger pops, we reel it in real quick while still in the holder and lift up and back. Read this tip somewhere on this site.
  2. Sounds like a great day out there. We had a great morning also, and spotted moving nets on other boats. The heaviest I've seen for traffic out there this summer.
  3. Thanks to both of you for replying. To answer your question about leader length, mine are approximately 4 feet between dipsy and flasher. My poles are also 10 feet long(ugly stiks). Could it really be that simple? I have been doing 4 feet because that was the luhr jensen recommendation.
  4. I was previously using only riggers, but have put together a pair of dipsy rods/reels with 30lb big game mono. Using size 1 metallic blue and silver with o-rings. To date I have ONLY used flashers/fly combos on them and do not get much action from them compared to spoons on the riggers. Have tried spin doctors of all colors and patterns with atommik flies, luhr jensen flies, and dreamweaver flies. Tried Echips, Champion flashers, luhr jensen dodgers, etc. In other words, i've tried a lot of combos. The only real action has been from a blue/green atommik fly with blue crush spin doctor a few times. My leaders between flasher to fly are dead on between 24" to 20". I use luhr jensens chart for how much line to let out, and go just a touch longer to account for the 30lb mono. I generally troll between 2.3 to 2.7mph. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong? It kills me hearing about how effective these are for seemingly everyone else and I can't get a hit on them.
  5. Outstanding! Looks like a lot of fun. The Lake was amazing to look at yesterday, and sad at the same time. Was anyone crazy enough to attempt fishing it yesterday?
  6. Holy Shnikes that is impressive! I wonder how long it took before someone realized it was a coho and not a king?
  7. I've run into the same obnoxious charter behavior. Don't you know they have the right to where you fish? Congrats on a successfull run and quality day spent with family!
  8. I use all sizes and catch little ones on big spoons, and catch big ones on little spoons. Sometimes its ridiculous how small the fish is compared to the spoon. [ Post made via Android ]
  9. Thanks for the heads up, but one question. What do you mean by them being "red"? Referring to the start of their color change?
  10. I'm looking for opinions on whether or not to send a 7 lb walleye to the taxidermist or carve it up? I don't catch a lot of these but this thing seems like a pig to me, and it fought like hell much to my surprise. Didn't even think it was a walleye! Would you wait for a bigger fish? Is a 7lber common?

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Time on Water:5-8pm Weather/Temp: upper 70's Wind Speed/Direction: W Waves: less than 1 ft Surface Temp: lower 70's Location: NE of bay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated: 3 Species Breakdown: King/Brown/Laker Hot Lure: wonderbread pattern in large shoehorn or smaller DW glow Trolling Speed: 2-3mph Down Speed: Boat Depth: 100-180 Lure Depth: 60-50 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Temps in the mid 50 range 60 feet down. Ran rigger down 60 with dw wonderbread glow spoon with cheater yeck green glow spoon, and dipsy 160 feet with blue glow spin doc and atommik fly(can't remember pattern name). DW wonderbread spoon took a small king early over 120 fow, then lost same spoon short time later to a break off on a good sized fish. 5" lj shoehorn wonderbread pattern took a 9lb laker later. Had something off rigger again briefly. Dipsy finally hit with a nicely colored 11lb brown. Headed back in. I was hoping the larger Kings would be starting to stack up outside of the river, but that didn't seem to be the case tonight. Will keep trying. Good luck to all who participate in the derby!
  12. Sounds like a fun run for the newbs. Thanks for the report! [ Post made via Android ]
  13. Good luck to the 4 of you. With that amount of time, you'll have to come across a few by accident! You've been reading to learn how, but do you have the gear to be successfull?
  14. Congrats! That's a great first run. Shows how much preperation pays off.
  15. Didn't see any point in posting a new report, so I'll just concur with what Sea Lion already stated. 4 hrs on the water tonight got me a steelhead that shook off at the boat and one pop on the rigger with no one home. Better than nothing, all things considered. I was not interested in going deeper than 230 tonight.

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/5 & 8/6 Time on Water: 5pm-8:30pm, 5am-9:30am Weather/Temp: 80's, 70's Wind Speed/Direction: NE, S Waves: 1-3, less than 1 Surface Temp: mid to lower 70's Location: north of the bay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 11 Total Boated: 7 Species Breakdown: Kings, steelhead Hot Lure: all working Trolling Speed: 2.2-3.2 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 80-260 Lure Depth: 80-40 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Out of the bay Friday evening and Saturday morning with friend. Dipsy out 160 with blue spindoctor and atommik fly netted a king in 180 feet. The rest all on DreamWeaver spoons, mostly glow type. Frog, Superbread, etc.. Didn't matter what type and what depth between 80 and 40 down on riggers. No single spoon took more than 1 fish. Had a few pop off getting in towards the boat, including 1 that broke off clean and is now wearing a dreamweaver in it's mouth. Kings were definitely larger as we headed deeper. Largest was in the mid teens. We haven't been putting up big numbers on my boat compared to others, but from the help of the folks on this site, I'm having a blast out there and learning quickly!
  17. I don't know you personally, but appreciated your reports out of Irondequoit bay. I learned a lot from them. Hopefully you heal quickly and get back out there soon. Looking on the bright side, even if you don't, you got a good taste of it this year instead of missing it completely.
  18. i-bay=Irondequoit Bay. It is north of Rochester, NY, and the bay borders the towns of Webster and Irondequoit. There is a county operated launch on the NW corner(Irondequoit), and a privately owned launch on the NE corner with limited parking.
  19. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7/30/11 Time on Water: 5:30-10:00am Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: NW 10mph plus Waves: 2-3 Surface Temp: 73 Location: NE of Irondequoit Bay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 9 Total Boated: 5 Species Breakdown: All Lakers ?! Hot Lure: DW wonderbread spoon Trolling Speed: 2-3 mph Down Speed: Boat Depth: 80'-250' Lure Depth: 80'-50' ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== A very wavy run this morning for my little boat on my first morning run ever. Sooooo worth it! Headed NE to get to deep water fastest. Didn't start getting hits until 7:30 at 180 feet, 80 down on rigger with dw wonderbread spoon. Got continuous pops on that till 200 (all Lake Trout not exceeding 11 lbs), then nothing happening. Eventually headed back SW and came upon one of my coolest fishing moments ever with a double on the same line! Was using a cheater with a Yeck Green/orange glow spoon on the same line as DW wonderbread. Saw the rigger popped and pulled up 2 5-6 lb lakers on the same pole! Took some pics and video. Sadly, I was not able to bring those 2 fish back. My second pole, a dipsy at about 50 down with an NK green/blue/silver spoon, didn't have a fish on until about 80 feet. My guess was a brown but I didn't get it all the way in. I'm starting to get the hang of this, but can't understand why all Lakers and no Kings. Maybe trolling speed, but likely depth. Gonna have to change up next time. If you look close, you can see both lakers in the net...
  20. Great catch there! Thanks for the report. My morning went a bit different out there.
  21. This is sound advice, as I found out that night. We were running 4 poles on 2 riggers. The rigger I had a spin doctor on, I also had a pro troll on. Did not work out. I am going to try what you suggested. Can't wait to get back out and get better at it! [ Post made via Android ]
  22. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7/20 Time on Water: 6-9pm Weather/Temp: friggin hot and sunny- 90 Wind Speed/Direction: NW 5mph Waves: less than 1 Surface Temp: 78-80 Location: NE of the bay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 3 Total Boated: 1 Species Breakdown: King Hot Lure: DW wonderbread Trolling Speed: 2.0-2.8 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 120-240 Lure Depth: 40-80 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== This was my first time out deep using riggers so I should be happy we boated the 1 king that we did, but we could have done a lot better if I hadn't made a mess of the lines. Started north of webster in 120fow or so and coninued north until 240fow with one miss on a flasher and fly. Headed SW and started marking baitfish and fish on screen in 200fow, 70-90 down. 2 riggers popped with only one staying on. A fun 18 lb king that took a dreamweaver wonderbread spoon with no flasher/dodger. Went to reset riggers and just made a mess of things just as it was getting hot. I'll do better next time and make sure my buddy gets one on the end of his line.
  23. i think it has improved this year from last. I did a lot of bass fishing last year and didn't get a single out of the lake or i-bay, and have already brought in 3 in the past couple weeks. as nice as the one is i caught in this pic, i saw another guy nab one at least a pound or 2 heavier.
