  1. Glad to see you made it out. Congrats on those atlantics! Those are always fun [ Post made via Android ]
  2. i've always gone east of the channel. well enough to never bother going west, but i see others do. when you get away from the sand bottom of the outflow of the bay and into the rock bottom headed towards webster, the numbers dramatically increase.
  3. The water was perfect last night and just the right amount of chop. Just the right green stain. This back and forth with the wind up and down should keep water clarity about right since it hasnt been raining a lot. [ Post made via Android ]
  4. Ive been wondering that too. On the reports ive made, there are 100's of views but very few actually reporting on how they are doing. And you are right, lots of boats out now that the bridge has swung. My daughter and i had a good run last night but i didnt feel compelled to post it. Would like to see others post. 5. nice report! but i was a little disappointed no pic of the spotted sheephead!
  6. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 3/31/12 Time on Water: 4pm- 6:30pm Weather/Temp: partly cloudy Wind Speed/Direction: 7mph/North Waves: less than 1 Surface Temp: 42-43 Location: i bay to webster LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 6 Total Boated: 4 Species Breakdown: browns Hot Lure: rapala j-11 blue Trolling Speed: 1.5-2.2 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 8-18 ft Lure Depth: 7-3 ft ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== the lake finally settled down around 3pm so i got out quick as can be. nothing happening out of the bay or up to shipbuilders, but got busy beyond there. water stained and dirty, but slowly clearing on the way toward webster. plucked a pair of browns in the 3-4lb range within minutes of each other. turned around and grabbed another in the same spot, about the same size as the other 2. missed one while getting hung up on a rod holder. got a strike while letting a line back out(this happens to me a LOT, btw). finally, boated a nice fighting brown that came in exactly at 11lbs and called it a day. was nice to be back out. goby pattern x-rap also did well.
  7. a great spring run for sure. you'll have a lifetime fishin' buddy from now on!
  8. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Time on Water: Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: Total Boated: Species Breakdown: Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== given the wind, wind direction, waves, and water clarity, i knew how it was going to go but i gave it a go anyways. caught nothing in an hour and a half and i won't even bother with details about speed and what i was using. it wasn't going to matter. oh well. maybe i'll get a shot on the weekend. good luck to all this weekend. i think tomorrow is going to be a challenge for all that try.
  9. i would agree with you about size. they have been smaller on average. some i've practically dragged in. but, i've caught up to 10lbs 5oz and its ONLY MARCH! gotta love it!
  10. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 3/20/12 Time on Water: 4:40-6:30 Weather/Temp: 70 degrees and mostly sunny Wind Speed/Direction: ne 7 mph Waves: 1 ft or less Surface Temp: 44-48 degrees Location: i bay outlet to webster LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 4 Total Boated: 3 Species Breakdown: 1 gorgeous steelhead and 2 browns Hot Lure: j-11 jointed blue rapala Trolling Speed: 2.0-2.3 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 8-15 fow Lure Depth: 3-7 feet ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== my 7 year old daughter said she wanted to go, so i was happy to oblige. the water has returned to that perfect cloudy green. marked nothing in the lake but still took 4 hits. first fish was our biggest female steelhead to date at just over 8lbs. i know that isn't that impressive but that fish was an absolute thrill to get in. impressive leaps from the water at it's size. she dropped eggs all over the floor while unhooking. dropped what was probably a brown a short time later. 2 small 3-4lb browns to follow. tonight was my daughter's first brown on her own for the most part. a very proud moment!
  11. a brown that big would end up on my wall! congrats to you. gonna be tough for you to beat that one.
  12. funny how similar your report was to my experience. thanks for the report. i caught nothing on a 3 hour run and saw almost nothing on sonar. made my run this evening in the same area. when i saw how clear the water was, i knew it was going to be tough...
  13. yes. stayed pretty tight to 10 fow. didn't feel a need to wander because the bite was so good.
  14. thanks to you all for clarification. only 2 years into this so i still have a lot to learn...
  15. the small picture doesn't really emphasize the tail and top fin spots. they are both completely spotted. that would be typical with a rainbow/steelie. not a brown. as i said above, i've never seen a brown with a completely spotted tail. you always see them with a few along the top or none at all. fish id's all show browns with a few or no spots, rainbows with completely spotted tails.
  16. the more i look at this fish, i think it may be a steelhead. just looks so much like a brown...
  17. headed towards webster. 2mph or less. water temp about 38. our first run of the year was good, and could have been great if i had my act together. dropped 2 lines straight out the back and immediately had a double before i could even start feeding out the planer. an 8lber and 7lber. started feeding a line out again and got smacked right by the boat by a 4lber. had a lull of about 45 mins and had some more cookie cutter sized. no real monsters but steady action. one of those browns had a TON of spots, including the entire tail. i've never seen a brown with an all spotted tail. i don't believe it is a steelhead. looks like a hybrid. i'll post a pic if anyone is interested. all stickbaits and every color/size/type produced fish. 3/14/12. had only 2 hours this evening but it turned out good again. solo pulling 3 lines. 5 for 7. same speed. water temp up to 43 out of the bay and shipbuilders. 2 in-line planers each side and 1 straight out the back. everything took hits, but clown colored matzuo 3.5" took 4 on it's own. all but 1 of the browns tonight were in the 3-4lb class. 1 for 6-7lbs. nice even hits, except a double that i couldn't manage and dropped. i can't figure out if i'm getting better at this or the bite is even better than last year. i will say that using big boards or in-line planers appear to be paying off.
  18. I have a small boat and use the largest minn kota 12v electric trolling motor mounted in the back. It gets me around 1.6mph at full speed with 2 rigger balls and 2 dipsies in the water. It's enough until I finish and go back to gas.
  19. I usually aim for just above themocline. If I'm marking fish regularly at a different depth, I adjust up or down. When trying to go really deep, I am doubtfull that they are really diving that deep with 30lb mono. I have gone as far as 240 feet, i think. Getting the dipsy to release with very long mono line can be difficult. The angle of the line at that length suggests there is a huge bow in the line or it is really not digging down.
  20. Amazing day! I wouldn't know what to do with half those results. On that Bass Pro Shop demo you are doing, any chance there will be video of it online after? I would love to be there but will be in Canada that day and can't make it.
  21. the trick is to figure out what it is they are feeding on and match it as close as possible with a lure, whether that be a crankbait or spoon. possibly niagara minnows. been seeing large schools of them recently. possibly small cleo's or small floating rapala's with natural colors that are shallow diving. cast well beyond areas you are seeing fish or activity and run your lure around the edge or through that area. when i find an area that has baitfish, i will anchor the boat in the center and cast out in a fan pattern. like ringing a dinner bell.
  22. I do have the flashers connected in the proper direction. Most of them came with illustrations. With all of my spin doctors, I have connected the fly leader to the hole on the end with "more action". I also have all of my flies matched and wrapped around the flasher. Like you said, saves a ton of time. All of my leaders from dipsy to flasher are flouro. I'm going to try both rods with the longer leaders and see how it goes. May get wire, but probably not till next year.
  23. That is exactly what I'll do. Will see what happens on next outing.
