  1. Bob I hope you dont mind but I posted some info on your auctions to other pages as well to spread the word on what youre doing to help fellow members of the rochester community and those who were affected by this unspeakable tragedy!
  2. We got 2, both were 38" my buddy lost a real nice one in the morning. We surprisingly were able to cast all day even though it snowed non stop! It was at the expense of one of my reels though but thanks to Booger for saving my inland season ender by letting me use one of his reels for the rest of the day!

  5. Can't believe the season is over already! Id still like to get down to the lower one last time if the weather permits! Feels like I didn't get to fish nearly as much as I did last year but with school and 95 degree summers it makes sense! Still got to achieve some goals this season! It was fun as always getting to fish with everyone and I look forward to seeing everyone at the Muskies Inc. meetings Finally got a 40+" Tiger...hands down the hardest fighting fish i have ever caught Worked a lot out on the Niagara River and got to learn some new things about those waters as well. Caught my first bondy fish and topwater fish out there Also got a new PB with my first 50+" fish Now its time to enjoy the holidays and begin another cycle of off-season gear hoarding haha
  6. as these guys mentioned, bait casting gear has a lot of benefits compared to spinning gear. but that being said, you can still get a nice spinning set up as well for that kind of money. Both shimano and Rollie and Helen's have a spinning rod in their musky line-ups. Shimano's is 7'0 MH and H I believe and im not quite sure of the RH model but know they have one. As for reels, any shimano 4000 series would suffice...i only say shimano because thats all I really ever had experience with. Chad I do not have any more TI rods I converted entirely to the american-made rods but those TI rods were incredible especially for their price.
  7. whats your price range and what lures do you typically like to throw?
  8. Gents, im clearing house of some of the stuff that doesn't see the water like it should...most of this stuff is in brand new condition if not then new. 9. very nice fish...did they release it? I won't lie though it made me cringe seeing it crammed into that net and tossed on the boat floor...
  10. Ed just emailed out a bunch of pics of all the fish, when I get home from class ill try and get a detailed report up if prowler-master chad or pickerel joe don't beat me to it! Saturday was an absolute great time! Great seeing all you guys and whether I had caught fish or not I still had a blast fishing with everyone!
  11. congrats on the first thats a hell of a fish! captain larry knows his stuff
  12. can't wait! though from this weather report on sat/sunday looks like chautauqua is going to be a tough bite! either way its still fishing!
  13. Great time the other night guys! Derek was pumped to be able to come and be our first guest speaker, I hope everyone there was able to gain something from being there and listening to what he had to say. If anyone has any questions, comments, etc. they'd like to ask Derek I can send you him contact info hes always down to talk muskies! Just a reminder to you all as well, it'd be a good club gathering to volunteer to help him or Dr. Kapuscinski with their work on the Niagara next spring/summer. Keep it on the back burner! In the mean time as we get into the big girl time of the season... whos got dibs on the biggest fish from now until the closer???
  14. Get some nice gliders like phantoms or hell hounds, they've gotten bit a lot this past spring. Also, ninja tubes, dive and rise jerks (sledges were already mentioned those are one of my favs) leos, some might even say suicks but from what ive experienced 1 out of every 5 suicks you buy will run correctly but when they're a good one you'd be hard pressed to find guys that dont get bit using them!
  15. Regardless of water depth a fish is always utilizing its swim bladder for buoyancy and position-management at different depths. The amount of hydrostatic pressure can change greatly from one depth to the next. In the case of tiger muskie, muskie, and pike, fish that are not necessarily clear-cut deep or shallow water species but can be found to prefer pretty variable depths, have to regulate the gas in their swim bladders if they are moving from shallow to deep or vice versa depending on how long they may stay at those depths for. If they do not regulate the pressure they will expend more energy just to swim upright so they gulp in air or expel it to do so. Even at 15 fow there is a big difference in pressure. To me though that isn't necessarily a reason for the "surfing", its just a weird but cool behavior to see its like they don't even care that you're there when they cruise by
  16. Ive seen all three do it but most of the times I see it they are pike/tigers. If you talk to any old timers they'll tell you that the fish are "looking for baby ducks" haha. There are some more likely theories behind it though that I have been told... 1.) esocidae (pike family) are a physostomas fish...meaning that their swim bladder is connected to their stomach. So if they need to regulate the air in the swim bladder they may have to come up to the surface to grab a gulp of air. 2.) it may also have something to do with having just finished a sizable meal. If they've eaten something pretty big, they may be utilizing the warmer surface temps to help speed up their metabolism and assist digestion. Those are the ones ive learned that seem the most realistic to me who knows I could be way off haha
  17. where are you jigging? use real heavy leaders (130lbs plus) or even 7 strand bc youre going to make a lot of contact with zebra muscles if its in the river or 20-25 fow or less. can't go wrong with bondy baits either but if youre going to be jigging tubes get some of the 2-3 oz. jig heads from Marc at red october
  18. hell yeah, I cant wait to see the pleasure boaters go! And when deer season opens it gets even better. Got some new rods I gotta get out and use im pumped for the fall tourneys!
  19. haha yeah I agree dont want NY to look like a bunch of tools haha! That pic of the YOY is there a way you can make it known that thats Kevin Kapuscinski's photo? I didnt take the pic he sent it to me so I just want to make sure he gets the credit!
  20. Ok I will confirm it with him then (tentatively of course until I hear a definite go from the club). By the way...has anyone heard anything about those cover letters? Does HQ have them or are we writing our own? I know some of us were assigned different papers to reach out to but I dont know if we are just contacting by phone or through letter? Chad I think next month should just a be portrait of me to add a nice warmth and welcoming feeling to the site haha! Next meeting will be Derek and I, and maybe ill see if Jenelle wants to attend bc whether she likes it or not her ass is getting a club membership haha
  21. Gents, sorry I couldnt make it to the meeting last night, class got in the way but I will be able to make septembers for sure. I ran this by Brad but wanted to get some feedback from others as well. Hopefully by next meeting we will be an official club so I was wondering if we might want to plan on celebrating (with beer and food) by having our first guest speaker come have a nice relaxed talk? Derek Crane, a good buddy of mine, is finishing up his PhD here at ESF. His field of expertise is with habitat restoration and hes a big muskie guy just like the rest of us. I thought itd be cool to bring him in and listen to what he has to say about helping us push the issue of going about making our waters better for esox. He said hed be more than happy to come and give a talk for us if everyone wanted. Hes spoken at several big events including AFS meetings accross the US. Let me know your thoughts and for those of you who are in contact with the members who might not regularly visit here or use the internet, id appreciate it if you ran it by them as well. Thanks guys -Mike
  22. Larry, I believe there is a great strain hatchery in green bay i believe. Im not sure how well that shocking plan would work btu its definitely an idea to look into. Panfisher- those hybrids are sterile and they grow much faster than pure strains so they can quickley out-compete them and do not reproduce....and from what Dr. K explained to me its also a cause for concern because it can be indicitive of habitat degradation since pike and muskie usually use different spawning areas but are being forced to spawn closer to one another now.
  23. I agree Gill-T they would have plenty to eat with all of the emeralds...but they wouldnt be the same strain of musky at all. One would be naturally reproducing great lakes strain the other would be hatchery reared ohio strain...not a good mix. Plus in the spring time most of those hatchery reared fish would be bass food anyways, thats why most are stocked in the fall when bass metabolism tends to slow.
