  1. As everyone has already said, that is what its all about. I would take a smile on my kid catching a fish like that, ANY DAY OF THE WEEK, over me catching a fish. That memory is worth 1000x more than any price tag on a boat. So awesome!
  2. Will be out tomorrow morning early.....we shall see what we find. Always a challenge after the NE blow and water mixed up everywhere.
  3. Totally agree with the general sentiment above, I will run my 3 color, 5 color and 10 color all year long, because of the steelhead and Coho's that stay higher in the water column. Also easier on church boards to spread them out to the side, away from riggers and divers, then say a slide diver. If there are only 2 of us on the boat and I can only run 6 rods, and I am targeting kings specifically, I run 4 divers and 2 riggers with free sliders. But if there is 3-4 people, then totally putting out the spread with leadcores. And June is still very active for fish above 35' Good luck! Jason
  4. absolutely Wayne, I catch lakers all year long on deep spoons and flasher flies while running normal 2.8 for kings, I should have said that slowing down was intentional because I was running cowbells and its just good form to run them slow...as well as the fact that at 130 fow down if I bump the speed with cowbells on, I constantly trip the release!
  5. Last week there were still browns around the mouth and pier heads....some people trolling inside the channel. I would still be running a stick bait program near the surface and some evil eyes, cleo's and stinger sized spoons on the riggers or leadcore lines. Fish any color you can find.....I would still be working off Maxwell Creek from 10fow out to 60 fow, but if its gin clear and cold then your going to find browns somewhere else! Who knows were..... if you have the time, run down to Ginna and fish Bear Creek to Ginna, as that warm water is probably still holding fish. Any browns I have been catching have been on leadcore and free sliders out over 50-80 fow while looking for kings and steelies! Good luck!!!
  6. Channel 9, and sometimes further west the guys out of hughes and pultneyville use 68. Welcome to Sodus, the fishing is tough (except for lakers) for the next 4-6 weeks...really have to grind it out.... But July and August are a lot more fun!!!!! Outtaline is my boat, feel free to hail me!!! Jason
  7. Sometimes I don't report when there isn't anything really to report, but sometimes you just got to tell people....fish somewhere else, unless your looking for lakers. Headed out at 5:15AM and knowing the action was west....we ran down the lake about 4-5 miles, stopping short of Hughes and figured we'd just point west and see what we could get. Started in 50 fow and worked out to 110 fow and zig-zagged all the way to Bear Creek. Ran a spread of 3-color, 4-color, 10-color, slide diver, mag size dipsy, std size dipsy, and 3 riggers, all with free sliders. Ran all sorts of rigger depths from 30' down to bottom. Played with diver rods from 100' back to 200' back on #1 and number #2 settings. Ran a variety of colors, combo's, spin doctors/fly, cowbells, mag spoons, NK28, stingers..... and we had 3 HUGE Skippies from 12-18 inches long, but two of those came on my seldom used Raspberry Dolphin Michigan Stinger, on a free slider on the 35' rigger. and the other came on a Fire Frog Michigan Stinger on the 4 color, that I NEVER KNEW WAS THERE! That was the baby at 12" long. The lone bright spot was a beautiful 7lb rainbow that managed to take a blue dolphin spoon on the 35 rigger and then ran right for the surface, jumped half a dozen times, before diving under and between my slide diver and the mag diver and then managed to catch the free slider on the mag diver and the main spoon in his mouth on the slide diver. Got love feisty fish!!!! My son had a ball and the tangle was not as bad as it could have been. We took the fish over 75fow and just after we bumped speed up to 2.8-3.0 at the ball. Temps most of the day was 43 on the surface and 41-42 down 40foot, inside of 100 foot, but somewhere between 110-120fow it dropped to 40 on top and 39 degrees down 40. We tried slowing down for lakers, but got nothing to hit, although a buddy did a couple of fish in 130-140 fow near the bottom on cowbells, closer to Maxwell. All 3 fish that hit were taken on a east troll, versus west if that was making a difference yesterday. There were 15ish boats around that Hughes-Bear Creek area and I did not see a lot of rods moving. Did here one report of a smaller 10lb king taking an 8 color. If I had the time, (and gas $$) I would have left earlier and ran all the way to the river!!!!!!! Tight Lines! Jason
  8. 3-24-2015: Water levels last 24 hrs ~244.1 feet above see level 3-24-2014: Water levels 244.56 feet. So we are about 6 inches lower at the moment and 6 month predictions are lower than last year. Unless we get rain, I think the real issue will be September when levels get low. There is still a lot of ice up river (Lake Erie) that needs to thaw and flow down once the ice dam is removed. I am not panicked yet.
  9. Until Sodus Bay unlocks, neither will I. Best hope is for warm weather or my friend down on the Genny to get his in the water! 😊😊 Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Some guys over the weekend shoveled out Bear Creek Launch in Ontario and were fishing the warm waters of Ginna. Heard they did well.
  11. You had me at "We set out about 6:00am"..... Damn, I got fooled like a bluegill on an empty hook!

    Sodus Bay

Fished Saturday 10am-2pm in the depths of the channel between Sodus Point and Newark Island. Fished 35-41 foot of water to start, with only minnows, and found a few on the bottom and put maybe half dozen in the bucket between 8 - 10 inches. Nothing big. South West blow started kicking up and we decided to swing more into the channel area itself between the point (used as a wind block) and the sand bar/breakwall on the east side. Fished 25-37 foot of water and kept another 6 perch of the same size and one very healthy 17.5" largemouth caught on the bottom in 37'. Never caught a largemouth that deep....thought at first maybe a sheepshead or pike, but nope. We threw back maybe 10 dinks, but never really got into any quantity or size. Had the wind been less, might have tried to drift fish, but all in all was just a beautiful day to be out on the water with my son!!!!
  13. For years, the riverbank was where Your soul felt most at peace Your heart was most content when there With the fish and the geese But then, your spirit came to rest Where angels chose to roam And once equipped with ten pound test You made yourself at home. The sky became your deep blue sea The clouds became your shore And there, for all eternity You sat with friends galore Each angel was a fisherman Who had traded his pole For golden wings and a game plan At Heaven’s Fishing Hole. The tales you told about each catch Its stature and its girth Will live in memories unmatched As days pass here on earth Until we meet again, one day Upon God’s golden sand We’ll picture you, no other way Than with a pole in hand. May the Seas be Calm May the Skies be Blue May the lines be Tight And catch a fish or two! RIP Captain!! ~Jason
  14. Wayne that was awesome!!!! Though I am not sure I saw very focused Capt. Ellie turn around and look at it! LOL The video gives much better clarity to how big those teeth were! WOW..... Funny when you said wire diver, cause my thought was it was one of your copper set ups on those Okuma rods. Very nice fish and gone to fight another day!
  15. Wayne...next year Becky and I are coming with Ellie and you, maybe see if Nick and Theresa want to come and lets make a "Reel" Business trip out of it!!!!! My saltwater fishing consists of ONE charter (my 15lb cuda was much smaller than yours) and some wahoo.....and a few days of surf fishing the Daytona Shoreline. That's it. I need some more experience! LOL Great Job on the fish..... jason
  16. That's where I got it from. Hilarious!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. I HAVE TO BELIEVE IT WAS FOR A WHEEL CHAIR ACCESS AND IF THE DOOR IS CLOSE ENOUGHT TO A "TIGHT SEAL" WE ALL KNOW THAT ANY WATER WILL DRAIN RIGHT BACK OUT THE SCUPPER LINES. I HAVE THE SAME BOAT AND I THINK ITS AWESOME FOR THE RIGHT PERSON!!!! VERY COOL
  18. Come on...I think you can get a good 3-4hours in tomorrow morning before the rain and wind kick in! I will leave our fish guts in your bucket, incase you want some. Gert9888, I think a brown trout troll near shore Saturday morning is your only bet. Wind is supposed to circle around to the south overnight til about 1-2pm tomorrow afternoon when it will start to kick from the west. That's your ONLY possible Lake O fishable time in my humble opinion. Jay
  19. Been there done that solo with a 27lber that wrapped in downrigger cable while trying to net it. Thank goodness it didn't break. Great Job!!!!!! Nothing more fun than a large king solo....unless its a double and oh yes, once a triple while solo last year. Thank God two of the fish were lakers!!! LOL
