    I am guessing that 30'foot powder blue boat was the Harry Bee, piloted by Andy.... both he and his first mate SAM are known for screaming at people. LMAO and yes they are extremely helpful to anyone working the waters out there.... if you have a Marine Radio, we are always on.... mostly 16....

    After Ryan bolted out deep, I moved out to 65-90fow, in front of the trailer parks/camping grounds between Lighthouse and Maxwell. TONS of bait in that 50 foot down to bottom, as I did figure eights between 70-85 foot, pulling 3 leadcores (2,3,10 color) and running 3 riggers at 40, 50, and 60-65foot. We went 3-5 between 11am-1pm, including a very nice 10-11 lb Steelhead on a Green UV Tux down 60 foot, over 70fow. The 10 color pulling a UV Watermelon took a heck of rip and lost it about a minute into the battle. We had two wonderbread hits and a green frog take small kings, losing one behind the boat, as it was doubled up on the same rod, thanks to the free slider. Went back out in the late afternoon and went 1-3 in the same area between 5-7pm, another small king on a yellow/chartreuse NBK spoon down 50, over 80fow. Absolutely a beautiful day on the water, still not seeing much in the way of any kings, as everyone else has heard. But browns and Steelies have been fun.

    simple but not simple answer.... Opinions on what defines tasty to eat? I have had people say they love fish, because all they have gotten is perch, crappie and panfish and that is a totally different taste. I have a hard time telling the difference in flavor between a coho and steelie, but can easily pickout browns, kings and lakers. With that being said, I will eat lakers if.... they are less than 10 lbs, as they are not as "gamey" or oily as the older lakers. BLEED them asap and get them on ice. Clean them asap back at port and really trim the fatty and grey colored areas, pat them dry and get a good dry rub onto them.... I think marinades don't work as well on their meat, maybe because of the oils...dry rub hard, let sit a couple of hours, smoke them and eat the same day! Lakers do not taste nearly as well, after a day or two in the fridge or even after vacuum sealed and frozen. That is my opinion on eating lakers. They are not as sweet as steelies and cohos, with that nice pink flesh, but if done right and quickly, are still better than a lot of store boat fish.

    I have watched every season of the Salmon Showdown on line over the last 4-5 years, once I heard about it. I know my intrigue is just fueled by the fact that its on in the middle of the winter, when I am most getting anxious to fish and hear the reels screaming. There are lots of "youtube" videos I can watch as well, that show people getting fish (so many GoPro's and so little time), but I do enjoy some of the banter and editing that makes Salmon Showdown and the $10K grand prize exciting. I have wondered if I had some time and crew, if it wouldn't be fun one summer to see if they wanted a NY Based team to come and drag the boat for a month or more up there, fish 4 tourney's in a row for the 333. But like many of you, I wondered why we could not develop a similar showdown here on Lake Ontario. If it works for the Michigan/Wisconsin people, it should work here. Just might take some development. I like the format, but there are some changes I am sure we could all use. Bottom line, it is the ONLY show I have found that promotes trolling for trout and Salmon, not just trib fishing or commercial fishing like a couple of the Alaskan shows. This shows a true sport and the excitement that it holds and we really do need more of that here in Lake O (US and CAN sides) to drive more conservation efforts and stocking programs.

    Well that took awhile to read all 9 pages. I do love the lively debate, a lot of good points made on ALL sides. While I am no biologist or charter captain, I have fished these great lakes since I was a kid, and that is over 40 yrs of fishing. That has seen changes in pollution levels, effects of invasive species and since I have lived within 5 miles of Lake O for 43+ years now, I have seen the weather all over the place. A few points stick out to me in this thread....one, we are all FISHERMAN. Not trollers or casters or jiggers or whatever...we love fishing year round, regardless if we actually trib fish or pier fish or pond fish or boat fish. So we are all in this together to be united as was stated in past pages. Second, mother nature will rebalance, just a matter of when and how, not if. So how do we help mother nature, that is the question? Being flexible I think is the key, along with changes in our regulations. I am not going to say WHAT exactly should change, but why cant we have fishing regulations that flex with the changing patterns. If there are bad years, then we reduce the allowable amount of catches...both lake and trib! I am not saying CnR, but actual creel limits. Persoanlly I take only a handful of fish a year for myself.... I try and limit the friends I take out to one or two fish....I keep those I know are going to not make it, but if someone told me I could only keep 1 fish per person on board, or pick any rationally low number, I will still fish just as hard to catch and release. I think returning healthy fish is important, I think more regulations along the tribs during spawn maybe a key, I think some increased numbers of stockings is also very key. A holistic look at the system. As for my biggest pet peeve that I think should be outlawed, is the mass amount of illegal taking of spawning fish, along ALL tribs for roe! I know the SR sees a ton of people doing nothing but "ripping" salmon for their eggs and selling them. I see it along Bear Creek at sunset/night. I wont call out specific nationalities, but there is definitely some ugly illegal activities going on and I truly wonder the impact that has on reproduction? Increase presence along tribs for 4-6-8 weeks during spawn and some VERY heavy fines or jail time, might reduce this. Ok, off my soap box now. I will say extra prayers tonight for a better 2016 season! Tight Lines Everyone!

    NICE FISH.... always fun solo and I tripled up once a couple years ago on lakers, thank goodness no screamers and one was only 4-5 lbs! But I have to ask.... who took the picture, with you holding two fish? Or do you have a go pro and its a still shot?
